Overall, I'd give State Line Restaurant 4 stars. One of my favorite things about eating here is the homemade strawberry jam and the coffee. The jam is absolutely delicious, and the coffee is consistently good. Those two things alone keep me coming back. My go-to meal is the chopped steak breakfast, which is always satisfying and cooked just the way I like it. I also tried a bite of my friend's country fried steak, and it was excellent. My husband is a fan of their cheeseburger and fries, which are always a solid choice. The food is good across the board, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable for what you receive. In a time when so many restaurants have become expensive, it's refreshing to find a place that still offers good value. My one small complaint is their policy of not seating your table until everyone in your party has arrived. I understand the reason behind it, but when you're looking forward to that first cup of their excellent coffee, it can make the wait feel a little longer than it should! So if you're meeting friends there, make sure they're the on-time kind of people. The service is friendly, the food comes out hot, and the overall experience is always enjoyable. Overall, the food was decent. The eggs were properly cooked, the country style potatoes were good,the goetta and biscuits were on the dry side, and the jam was super sweet. Service was super slow at first and then improved. This place is a complete dive, which wouldn't bother me if the searing had been comfortable. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. read more

Great classic diner food with a 50s kind of vibe. They serve breakfast all day, Cincinnati and homestyle chili, sandwiches and other eclectic stuff. They even have homemade goetta, a traditional Cincinnati sausage. Definitely worth a try. read more

OMG - wow! My husband and I love breakfast. We are on a long road trip and had a crummy stay at a hotel last night. I used Yelp to find a breakfast spot. We drove a little out of the way for this and we are so glad we did! Fabulous ambiance - EXACTLY as advertised. The place was packed at 10 am. 5 waitresses humping hard. ALL 5 stopped at our table while we were there...water, coffee, taking our order, bringing me a taste of "Goetta" (yummy!) Huge menu. Husband ordered the eggs and sausage breakfast plate with Funnel cake sticks. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with potato cakes on the side. Exactly what I want in a little greasy spoon diner. Since I moved from NJ in 2016, one of the biggest things I've missed (besides Wawa) is a good diner - the concept just hasn't hit the mainstream out here in the Cincinnati/NKY area. With a couple of exceptions (shoutout to Diane's!) it's just something I've had to live without - until discovering State Line. We drove about 30 minutes from Kentucky to get here, and wow I'm glad I did. This was the exact experience I was hoping for. Throwback, classic, and unpretentious décor, friendly staff, and food that is awesomely high in calories but tastes fantastic. We went early on a weekend morning and barely got a seat. We ordered our food and started people-watching - every slice of life was represented there, and it felt like going back in time in the best of ways. Loved this place and love the fact that they are doing their thing and holding onto what a local restaurant experience should really feel like. Five whole stars, and will 100% be back. read more

Now I know why the parking lot is always packed. The food is excellent. The service is excellent and for a little hole in the wall, you can't beat it. Let me tell you, the servers were busting their butts and super busy yet friendly and courteous. I did have to wait a while before I could order, but they came and told me that they were busy and it would be a little bit before they could put another order in. Took my sister for a birthday breakfast and it was yummy. This is a gem in Greendale Indiana. It's a diner with delicious food. The staff makes you feel like family. There's never a bad time to go to one of the finest greasy spoons I know of. Even though we've long since moved out of Indiana we still come back here from time to time all the same. We've been here so many times over the years I'm not gonna go too in depth. I got the "Homestyle Favourites" breakfast which came with 2 eggs (over medium), 1 breakfast meat (Cajun Goetta for me), home fries, and toast with pepper jelly. The eggs were fine as were the home fries. The Cajun Goetta is always a must get for me as it's the best Goetta that I've ever eaten from anywhere. It's Goetta with a nice kick. Also not to be forgotten is their pepper jelly which is epic on toast. All of this great food at a very affordable price. Stellar place. read more

Visiting this area from the east coast, we were looking for a diner style restaurant. What a great place! The traditional chili.was very tasty, as was the broccoli cheddar soup. The turkey club was delicious and we heard people talking about the apple pie being a favorite, so we ordered a piece, to go. It definitely did not disappoint! Homemade and great taste! Stopped on the way back to Indy from the casino and glad we did! I got the chef salad and my husband got the hungry man special with an al a carte pancake and goetta and I got the chef salad. This has to be the restaurant with the rudest staff and slowest service. We literally sat a table for 32 minutes waiting for a waitress to acknowledge she would get our order. She knew we were there. After 20 minutes, I politely asked if a waitress would be waiting on us.The boy bringing water was sweet and tried to help, but the waitresses didn't look like they wanted to wait on anybody. Come to this small-town diner expecting small-time flavor and you'd be mistaken. While I typically visit this restaurant for breakfast on the weekends and order an omelette, on this occasion I ordered their chili in the form of a couple cheese coneys. These did not disappoint. While looking somewhat messy, I dove right in with a fork to devour these delectable morsels (which may be a faux pas) but I didn't care because these needed heavy duty equipment. The chili was definitely much meatier and had way more flavor than you'd get from your standard Skyline or Goldstar restaurant but this is not solely a chili place. Their homemade jam, biscuits, and other accoutrements will be sure to leave you wanting to come back for more. I highly recommend this little diner to anyone wanting something small batch and to support local business. Expect a bit of a crowd on the weekends as the inside does not serves the masses and will remind you of a diner straight out of the 1950s but the food is worth it. Sometimes the best things in life are straight out of the book from the past and this restaurant definitely delivers the best of both worlds...the flavor and the experience! I was driving by this restaurant and turned around to come back. Absolutely, a bad decision. They were busy which I thought was a good sign. I was alone and the waitress stated that there were 8 orders ahead of me and that it would be a bit to take my order. 15 mins later, my order was placed. Goetta, hash browns, 2 over medium eggs & light toast. The hash browns were so over cooked that the fork started to bend trying to cut them. Goetta not much better, crunchy at the least burnt at the most. Eggs were over light not medium. Toast was light but cold. Great little mom and pop diner style restaurant that we went to this morning after a concert last night in Lawrenceburg. Their homemade Goetta is delicious! Very crispy...just the way I like it. Went to dinner this evening and the food was amazing. Slight setback when I had to pay the bill because their POS system was down but they took action immediately. Looks like they were running all new wires to get everything fixed so people could pay their bills. I waited patiently with a full belly. The waitress was very sweet and apologetic. Things happen but the service was amazing and the food was great so a little setback doesn't bother me one bit. If you want good food and great service this is definitely the place to be!! read more
