BBQ is a beautiful American tradition and Stateline is a remarkable representation of all the best things about it. The small space is nicely appointed, tastefully, but also unquestionably like a BBQ joint. What does that mean...hard to know, but at the same time, it's nearly always easy to tell when you are inside a BBQ joint vs any other restaurant. The ribs are delicate and fall off the rack, with an intense Smokey flavor. The wings are their signature dish and also rather incredible. People are nice and there isn't much more one can ask for. First visit and ordered a pork plate platter with sides of potato salad, coleslaw and added an extra side baked beans. You order at the counter, have a seat, and they bring you your food. I've never had pork barbecue, quite like this, as the pork was chopped so fine that I would call it minced pork. Flavor was OK, but hated the texture. It's soaked up barbecue sauce like a sponge! My husband and I came through town for business and needed a break from the car. We stopped for Gas at Pilot and saw this restaurant next door so we decided to go in and eat a late lunch (2:30 on Wednesday). We were immediately greeted and shown a paper menu where we picked the Big Daddy plate to share. The sweet young lady brought out our food on a metal tray. It was half a rack of ribs, half a smoked chicken, side of slaw and side of potato salad. There were no plates so we ate off paper towels. In their defense, we did not ask if they had plates or anything to eat off of. We assumed if they did they would have brought it with the food. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. The chicken was too dry for our liking. The potato salad is made with red potatoes. Jazzed up with some salt they were pretty good. The slaw was decent. Seems like they have a great location. There was no smoke from an actual smoker. The only thing that made it BBQ was the sauce. Our experience would have been much better had we been given plates and if the meat was actually smoked. We arrived about 2 p.m., a little concerned with only a couple cars in parking lot that the food may not be fresh. Well I was wrong. Food came out fast and fresh. My husband ordered the hotdog with fries and he said was tasty. I tried his fries and love the seasoning. I ordered the pork sandwich and it was delicious. It is chopped pork, not pulled. It has a pickle on it in case you aren't a fan.. I loved it with the pickle. I ordered yummy sweet potato fries, they are the savory, not cinnamon flavored. The tea might be the best I've ever had & I drink sweet tea literally everywhere. Nice casual atmosphere with country music videos playing. I was debating between giving Smokin Pig a try or going down to Evan's in Villa Rica. I decided to try Smokin Pig because it was a BBQ joint I have never tried because all BBQ joints offer different flavors. Plus it was a 4 and a half stars overall. Smokin Pig is conveniently located off the exit to GA Hwy 100. It has a sasquatch theme going to it plus a shrine to U-G-L...I mean, U-G-A. To my dismay, Smokin Pig doesn't offer combo meat plates. I asked if I could add a rib to my pork plate and the reply was that half a rack cost a $1 less than a rib plate. Also, when I told the girl at rhe counter I had never ate there and asked her what's good, she said she never has and didn't like smoked meat. Well....it's her BIG-TIME loss because she should start eating here because it was delicious. I went with a pork plate with mac and cheese and potato salad. The pork was chopped, tender, and seasoned well. The potato salad is superb! I don't know how they make it but it is creamy and tangy. The mac and cheese is homemade with globs of cheese mixed in. I thought the potato salad and mac and cheese were worth eating without the pork! There are 3 sauces: mild, spicy,, and mustard. The boring mild run of the mill tomato base found on the table was meh but the spicy and mustard that you have to ask for is worth every bite. The spicy is the mild tomato base with something extra. It really isn't spicy...maybe a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being very hot. However, the mustard sauce might be one of the best BBQ sauces I've ever had. I just couldn't get enough of it! It was a little sweet, little spicy, and full of mustard goodness. This mustard is worth drinking! Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! There were a few setbacks such as the tasteless mild BBQ sauce and no combo plate. But the mustard sauce, phenomenal sides, and the prices make up for those setbacks. read more

Smokin Pig BBQ is far from a destination restaurant and it looks like a bit of a dive from the outside, but it provided surprisingly good food, a kind and helpful staff, and a cute dining area all at a very reasonable price! We stop in Tallapoosa GA almost every weekend, since it's the first exit where Alabama residents can get lottery tickets . There are a number of lottery sellers and gas stations at this traffic exchange, but only a couple of restaurants. Usually we swing back to Oxford Alabama for lunch, but on this day we decided to stay in Tallapoosa. We're glad we did. This is a place where you order at the counter, and they bring the food to the table on trays. We ordered ribs, wings, and a pulled pork sandwich. As my daughter noted, "people always say that their ribs are fall off the bone tender, but this is the first place where I actually experienced that!" The food was prepared fresh, hot, flavorful and with very good sauces. Ordered drinks are self-service, with free refills. This really feels like the kind of place you might find on Diners, drive-ins, and dives... Being that I travel on business to Alabama often, I've passed this spot countless numbers of times. Tucked away off of the exit, if you're riding down I-20W you're sure to smell BBQ from Smokin Pig. On this particular day I arrived right when they opened (11am). Sadly, I was taken back because I wasn't greeted the best. Not sure what was going on, but the other gentleman and customers behind me seemed to get the greeting of a lifetime.... On to the food; which I add was great. Although I can't speak to the BBQ, the Diablo was hands down one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time and the onion rings were a nice compliment. Stopped in here in my way back to Orlando. The theme here is all about squatch . Pretty cool how it's setup inside with plenty of seating. I ordered the platter with pulled pork and wanted to try the chicken as well so I picked up a side. Ok ok so the pulled pork was decent but the chicken dear lord it was so dry I had to toss 90% of it. I've never had chicken so dry & it looked good but I couldn't eat it. Driving back to Florida and love BBQ so decided to try Smoking Pig. Staff was friendly, food was prepared and served quickly. I ordered the brisket plate and my wife the smoked chicken. The smoked chicken was moist, tender and had a nice smoke ring and lots of flavor, delicious. The brisket plate had thinly sliced beef and was very tender, however the meat looked and tasted like roast beef not brisket. It had no smoke ring nor smoky flavor. Real brisket has a particular texture to the meat and is cut into thick slices and certainly will have a smoke ring as it's slow smoked for hours. In my opinion, this was fake brisket. FYI: I have smoked brisket at home for several years now and I can really appreciate when I find a smoke house that takes the time to prepare/serve a brisket properly - this is not that place. Don't get me wrong, our meals were very good, great value at $12.50, sides were good and staff providing great customer service, but they really shouldn't consider what they're serving as brisket as it was more like food service thinly cut roast beef from a bag. read more

On my way to Birmingham I stumbled across this place. First off...the inside is CLEAN and the staff is FRIENDLY. Had I not been determined to stay in front of traffic I would have eaten in. Picnic style benches with plenty of napkins and extra sauce on every table made it appealing. I had Hickory Fries with chicken & they were flavorful and filling! 3 people ate off of those fries. They were even better reheated in the oven with some of their spicy BBQ sauce on top! I also had the Thai Chili & the BBQ Smoked wings. They were REALLY GOOD... so good that between the 3 of us I think I had 5 total because my friends didn't give me a chance to unwrap my food before pouncing. Next time I will try the ribs. read more

I wasn't expecting much when I came here - weird location in the middle of nowhere. Then again, now that I think of it - the other two bbq places in my top 3 are also in bufu. Anyways - I had the ribs and the chicken wings. Ribs were seasoned perfectly, I hate how many bbq joints over season their ribs and they are too salty. These ribs were on point - smoky, super tender fall of the bone, and delicious. The chicken wings were smoked out completely, when you take 2 bites you got nothing but bone left - def some of the best smoked wings I've ever tried. Got the Mac and cheese and potato salad as sides and their Mac and cheese did not disappoint. Potato salad was good too, just nothing to rave about. The bbq sauce are BOMB!
