The Canal Station is easily my favourite hang out in Paisley. The atmosphere is always enjoyable most nights of the week. To be honest even on a relatively dead night you don't care due to the friendly staff and excellent decor. Sometimes people prefer having an empty cinema all to themselves. I sometimes like a similar experience when out for drink. I'm weird like that.
Talking of drinks. It's a bar. Why wouldn't I mention ''happy juice''? The wine list is ample, the pints of Guiness superb, the spirits and cocktails are admirable. The food is decent but not mind blowing. But I can recommend the whole menu, but my personal favourites are the chicken fajitas and the exquisite spicy chicken and chorizo pizza. The place is 2 minutes walk from the local train stop so it's perfect for young professionals grabbing a bite after a long day in the city. Weekends are busy but it never feels overcrowded due to the lay out. The prices are a little dear for a Paisley watering hole but not extortionate.
The staff a very friendly, not to mention a good laugh. But they are also very efficient and attentive. Excellent décor throughout, comfy leather sofas in the bar area, create a lovely welcoming ambience.
The regular crowd is a good mix of young hipster types, 30 something couples and young professionals. The bar is a stones throw from middle-class suburbia and yet tucked away from the main street pubs. So it definitely feels safe and relaxed.
For a bar-restaurant outside the city but possessing a classy city atmosphere you can't go wrong. Oh and there's a quiz night on Sundays for a bit of cheesy fun. read more
