As the town was a fortress at the time, the station born with attack in mind: a wood truss construction allowed to be dismantled or damaged with minimal waste. 1896, the original station was replaced with a large brick structure designed by Eduard Cuypers. Neo-Renaissance style, with a second floor for railway employees. 1944 than, during World War II caught fire and burnt down. Never rebuilt to its former glory. 1951, new life in a more modern way, designed by Sybold van Ravesteyn. Happy to be passed in the midst of history, see next time!

It's well designed and it offers manu shops like an albert theijn, DeBroodzaak and a kiosk for you're little snacks and drinks, a flower shop for buying some nice flowers for your crush or family. On the outside, there are some restaurants situated like a burger king, deli france and Julia's pasta. But I also recommend the new starbucks location which I didn't notice first. There are lifts for disable people, luggage or bikes to the platforms. Wifi is accesable with KPN or from the Albert theijn and another located shops (some of them have free Wifi acces). Also escalators and stairs are avaiable. In a few words the station is well setted and located from Amersfoort centre. For questions and help there is a information desk avaiable and staff are friendly. Connection are well to Schiphol, Amsterdam (even south and central station), Utrecht and among others. Also a little valleilijn brings you to location in the region of Amersfoort like Barneveld. Also are there restaurants located in the surroundings of the station like Overbuuren.

There are good connections from here to Schipol, central and not as central Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam among others. There is a large bus station and sufficient bike storage outside the station. This is a clean and well serviced station. It has an information centre for any help or queries and a WC (although I've never seen it open). Staff are friendly. There are lifts to the platforms for access with bikes, prams and for the less abled as most platforms (1-7). Most platforms have one escalator which only travels up so the lift is useful with luggage too. They are a good number of eateries here mostly outside the station. Inside is a Kiosk on platform 6-7, a platform based restaurant on platform 4-5, an Albert Heijn to go at the back of the station, another Kiosk, Smullers and DeBroodzaak at the front. There is also a flower shop and Akos here. Outside, there is a Burger King, Starbucks, Julia's pasta, deli France, and a pub I can't remember the name of. There is also a fish Handel quite popular at lunch time. Across the road from the station is Overbuuren which is a nice 1930s style restaurant.

It's stationary…read more This is review 1996 for me on Yelp (one thousand, nine hundred and ninety six), to commemorate the year in which I first came here... when I wasn't even a teenager yet... or barely. Such a bad boy. The year before I ran away to America, I went to stay with my Uncle in Holland for a second time. These were trips of a lifetime because I was a naughty boy and Holland was a naughty place. We'd buy rail passes (my brother and I), and would spend the days wandering around Holland. We went to The Hague, to Rotterdam, and to Amsterdam several times. Also Arnhem and Utrecht. The starting point was always Veenendaal, either the Central station, or this one in the West. My Uncle lived a similar distance from both of them. He now lives in Northern VA, but back in those days, he was in Holland, and we loved visiting him there. The trains in Holland were some of the best we'd ever experienced, and still are. This station is quiet, suburban, and perfectly safe for two little kids running around Holland with no adults watching them, doing things that kids would never expect to do. I've been back to Veenendaal and to this station as an adult and it seems so tiny now. That's what she said.

When I came in, I was on a tight schedule, since I'd been traveling and had to give a conference paper that afternoon. So even though check-in time is listed at 1500 the nice young woman at the desk was able to get me into my room at about ten minutes of two. That let me get showered, changed, and ready for my late afternoon presentation. Very helpful. The rooms are not super-spacious, and mine was two single beds next to each other. That was fine for me, as I was traveling alone, but it might be something to keep in mind if you're booking to travel with your partner. Room wifi was great, room was quite clean and the bathroom had everything necessary. The breakfast buffet is an absolute standout for a continental breakfast. You of course have all the options of coffee, tea, and juices that you'd expect from a hotel continental breakfast as well as the options of cereals, cold cuts, and the like, all of which are high quality, but man, the breads were what really set apart. Croissants, pastries, rolls of all different kinds, fresh bread with a knife that you could take slices from, just absolutely amazing. Another major plus was that the key card worked 100% of the time, every time when getting used on the room key and elevator. It's a short walk from the city center and also close to the city's public transit, so you can get anywhere you'd like in the city. This is a great place to stay if you're in Nijmegen.

The main…read morething this hotel has going for it is the proximity to the train station (right next door) and downtown (10min walk away). Otherwise, there's likely better places to stay if you want quiet, comfort and relaxation One big tip I learned near the end of the stay- the rooms on the 1st floor (2nd floor up as the lobby is on the 0th floor) are much bigger and nicer than the remaining rooms in the hotel. The room itself is pretty small and has only the necessities you'd want in a room. The bed is only about a foot off the floor and comes with one thin sheet and one staticky comforter. The desk is tiny so if you want to put your laptop on it and have room for other stuff it's playing tetris. The worst part of the room is the bathroom. Wow is it tiny...I knew I was going to be in trouble when you can only creak the door open far enough to slide in sideways because the toilet is in the way to open the door 90 degrees or more. You also can't take 1 step in any direction without running into something. The tub/shower is only 2 feet wide with the base of the shower only 1 foot wide. I could not stand my feet together in the shower without them going up the sidewall, so you have to stand like a gymnast on a balance beam while in the shower. Also when I sat down on the toilet my head bumped the sink on the other 'side' of the bathroom. For a country with the tallest residents in the world, I never expected the bathroom to be the smallest in the world. As mentioned before this is located right next to the train station...so you hear the trains all night and morning except for the few hours they stop running. You also hear a lot of traffic on the street and sirens. I recommend taking noise canceling headphones or earpieces for a quiet night's sleep The last funny thing about this place is I wanted to go to the gym while here, which is according to the elevator on the 8th floor. However, the buttons only go to the 7th floor. I asked the front desk worker and he said yes the gym is open and you can go up there. So I took the elevator to the 7th floor and then took the stair to the 8th floor. There were no lights on in the 8th floor except emergency sign lights. There was also no carpet and as I walked around the corner I came to a construction zone that was blocked off with a ton of stuff lying around everywhere where it looks like nobody's been up to this floor in years. Thus the gym if it exists is on the other side of an area you can't traverse. Overall if you just want a place that's convenient to the train station and city that's pretty cheap this is your place. If you want to stay somewhere where you can sleep and shower you may want to try elsewhere.
