I wanted to like this place. I really really did. Its close. Its cute. Good prices. Not too busy, we got a seat right away. But alas, I cannot say I will return. For a pub, I was surprised there were no classic appetizers. So we skipped that all together. We were there early, so there were Happy Hour Specials. The waitress told us the beer special, but said nothing about food. Then, when my husband ordered, said that his was half off and it was a dollar off others. I might have gotten the same had I known his was on special, but not mine. He had the pulled pork. Not bad. Except that it didnt come with fries, even though the menu said it did. (Apparently no fries because its a Happy Hour Special? So confused...) I should have gotten what he had. I ordered a burger, medium well. I can eat it medium, but I always ask them to overcook it because burgers always seem to come out undercooked. It did. The hamburger was shaped like a baseball - fat and round. In fact, so fat and round I had to cut it because I couldn't fit it in my mouth. I was glad I did - the inside was moist wet pink - uncooked ground beef. I sent it back. I assumed I would get a new burger, but instead they threw the same one back on the grill and brought it back out. I knew because it was cut in half. Not the worst thing in the world, except they burnt the outside when the re-cooked it. And they didnt have American cheese. Who doesn't have American cheese? Needless to say, there are many other better places in the area that we will continue to frequent. I wish this place was better...but oh well. read more

Well it took 4 years to get there and it's only 3 miles away and I'm sorry I didn't go sooner. Several friends go there regularly. I see why. Place was very busy at 2PM this Saturday but we seated right away by the lone waitress. They have a great selection of beer that is not overwhelming. Makes sense because the place is small and that's part of the charm. The kitchen, bar and dining tables are all in the same room. While this another part of the charm, it can get noisy. Since this was late light lunch, I got the chicken quesadillas. Pulled chicken, pepper jack and red onions with a bbq pumpkin sauce. The dish had just the correct amount of heat. The tortilla is not your standard white restaurant wrap. This was a flakier pastry style which was a nice change. My wife got an arugula, fig flatbread. Even though there was a lone waitress, she seemed to keep up with everyone but I think she could have used some bus help. Highly recommended. We will go again for dinner. read more

We love this place! The beer selection is great and constantly changing, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the food is delicious! The menu changes often with a few awesome constants. You have to try the Thai mussels! It has a nice vibe to it , it's warm and inviting and such a great addition to Downingtown. Disappointing. After reading reviews, we decided that this was the place to have our weekly date night. I've honestly never been so disappointed in a place like I was tonight. The boyfriend ordered the pulled pork sandwhich, Cuban style, while I ordered the blacken cat fish tacos. We've had better pulled pork sandwhiches at stops like wawa and sheetz. The buns were completely soaked, but not in flavors but with water. It tasted like they cooked the meat and let it sit in water until ordered. There was no flavor to the pulled pork sandwhich. The blanked cat fish taco was more flavorful. The fillings was quite tasty but it was ruined in a bland tasting tortilla. I've had better tortillas at taco bell. They did not grill it real quick to bring out the flavor but instead tasted like they pulled it out of a store brand bag and tossed the fillings in it. I ended up just eating the fillings of the taco, but I couldn't even finish it. The boyfriend ate the rest of the taco because I'm sure anything tasted better than what he just ate. I give it 3 stars for the atmosphere and the nice waitressing staff but as for the food, we will not be visiting this establishment any time soon. read more

Station Taproom is one of the best places in the area. I've been going here for years (basically since they opened) and have yet to be disappointed. Always a solid beer menu, incredibly delicious and reliably good food, and just a really great atmosphere. Yes it's small and yes you may have to wait for a table on a Friday or Saturday night, but honestly it's worth it. Also if you can swing the Sunday brunch - incredible. The best chicken and waffles (special, so check the menu first) I have ever had. Honestly rave about the C&W every single time I recommend brunch here. Nice place, bigger then it looks from the outside. I had gotten the salsa which wasn't your normal salsa and chips it was very good ( it was white not red, it was cream cheese and sour cream chilled with melted cheddar, to me it had a little kick to it, I couldn't make out what else was in it but it tasted familiar) . One of my running partners picked the Taproom for our reunion. I was very impressed with the beer selection. Based on the earlier reviews, I went with the red curry and the truffle fries. I can't praise the red curry anymore that previous reviewers. If I ever come back, it will be the only dish I have. My friend and I did not find the truffle fries anything special but she greatly enjoyed her risotta. Service was excellent. My biggest issue was the level of noise. If we had problems hearing each other on a Monday night, I would hate to be there on a Friday night. read more

Would have been four stars......but..... Execution was off. I took my son Joey his girlfriend Jules for dinner tonight (3/8/15). We've wanted to dine here for some time now and finally got around to it. I've heard good things about the Taproom so here we go. Walked in around 5:30 with a three top, grabbed a high top near the open kitchen for the three of us. Server was quick to greet us and get a drink order. The craft beer selection is really nice and I ordered a saison (sorry can't remember the brewery) that was not overly malty or yeasty but right on. We ordered a Chefs Plate.. $20 cheese and salami board with pickled rhubarb, olives, roasted red peppers and a California raw cows milk Swiss that was awesome and a bleu that was spot on. The chocolate almond bark was a nice sweet treat. Hand cut fries scented with black truffle oil and seasonings were very good but I prefer white truffle oil... A bit more mellow, just a personal thing. Entrees came and this is where they fell off: I ordered a Salmon Risotto dish... Arborio rice was over cooked and the salmon that was flaked through-out just seemed like it was a bit aged, not as fresh as it could have been. Maybe I miss read the menu, but I expected something completely different... A classic preparation with a fillet on top. Joey's friend Julia tried the smoked chicken mac n cheese... She enjoyed it but couldn't taste the "smoke", the pico de gallo on was a fresh touch. Joey had a house burger... Orders it, medium, got it mid-well... Although flavorful was disappointed. Served with hand cut fries a nice and crispy pickle spear. Dessert features we had were the peanut butter pie, very good and a toffee pudding.. Warmed and delish. The first time my husband and I ate here, the food was phenomenal. This time we came on a late evening assuming it wouldn't be too crowded...wrong. Nevertheless, based on our first experience, we figured the food was worth the wait. We walked inside only to stand by the door for about 15 minutes with employees passing without a word. There is no sign stating to seat yourself so we stood there for another 5 minutes until we saw an open table and decided to sit down. As soon as we sat down, someone finally came over only to ask us to get up because that table was reserved for another party. Finally made it to the Station Taproom! Now we wonder "what took so long?". Stopped in after a football game Friday night. Little small but we waited at the bar for a table. Super friendly staff made the wait short. We weren't sure what beer to try so they let us sample various beers they had on tap, awesome customer service! When we got to our table, we ordered Spinach Artichoke dip, Fish n Chips and Thai Red Curry w Shrimp. The dip was very good, creamy, rich flavors. The Fish n Chips were simple but very good. Not greasy with a crisp crust and flaky fish. As good or better than what I've had in a London pub. My wife's Thai Red Curry was very good. Great blend of flavors but not overpowered by the curry. We left saying we'll definitely be back, we loved it. Again, hats off the the staff! Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and helpful! read more

I recently ate here with my gf on a Saturday night. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, they don't do reservations at all. We had no problem with this and had a drink at the bar. They have a pretty good beer selection and variety. The first thing we got as an appitizer were mussles. These were listed under the "small plates" part of the menu, but could have ewasily been a meal. They were pretty good. I ordered the Chorizo Sausage sandwich, which looked good, and not greasy at all, but the sausage seemed bland to me. My girlfriend ordered the fishsticks, which looked like the best fish sticks ever, but were very bland also. We really want to like this place, the food looks great, but both of our dishes needed more seasoning. We will try again, hopefully with better result. The service was fast and friendly. read more

My first visit to Station Taproom last night. This place is fun, and the beers and food are excellent! The place is small, but ample parking, both in private lot and street. Expect to wait for a table - but it will be well worth it. First, while waiting, we enjoyed the variety of beers at the bar. Also noticed some great spirits, including Dad's Hat Rye. Good, personable, attentive bartender. After about 30 minutes, our table was ready. The menu is unique and, looking at the meals being plated and delivered to other tables, much attention paid to quality. We both shared Edamame. I had a special apple soup which was very good, followed by the best BBQ pork sandwich I have had in a long time. My wife had the Turkey panini. Fries came with both, and they were great. I tried the mussels ordered by another member of our party and they were very good, but would have liked more. The waitress was great. I must say that Downingtown is becoming a great spot for bars with great beer selections, and the Station Taproom does not disappoint. It's decor is modern and inviting. The only issue, as others have noted, is that it is small and can get very crowded quickly. If you have a large party (8+), it probably would be difficult getting a table.
