It was AOK.
As my colleague pointed out...we quickly learned the reason for the complimentary earplugs furnished with each room.
IT'S LOUD!
WHAT!?
IT'S LOUD!
After a very long day of meetings and travel, I began dreaming of a quiet respite at StattHotel. A place to rest and recoup, refresh and begin a new day.
And while the room I had was quite small, it was comfortable, the bed nice and fluffy. The shower was extremely short (I'm only 5'9 and had to duck a little bit)...but totally fine, very clean.
The issues were with...the noise. You see, there is a bar just below the windows...and I felt I was really an integral part of the party as I imagined each round of "cheers" happening about 20 feet below me. My poor head! I'm so tired, people...please go to sleep, stop partying! Please!
At around 1am, they must've been shoo'ed out and I thought...."ahhhh yes! quiet!"
Until 6am when I heard the following: construction, men yelling, street sweepers, sirens, people rolling their suitcases down the cobblestone streets. Now of course none of this is StattHotel's fault in particular, but it is pretty LOUD. And without AC the windows must be flung open for air, leaving no choice but to...wear earplugs? I suppose. I didn't do this, but I guess its nice they provide them. If you are traveling with children, avoid this place if you don't want some cranky babies on your hands.
The staff was very friendly, even allowing us to check out thirty minutes past the usual time (11am). It seemed a bit early to me, but no fuss as they also let us check in quite early the day before.
*Nespresso machine in the room.
*Confirm check-in time with them, it is not a 24h desk. They'll give you a code if you are coming in later than they will be there, so coordinate in advance.
For my next stay in Zurich, I'd head back to Hotel Helmhaus, which still suffers from a bit of noise (bars/outdoor patios nearby) it seemed more muted and I slept much better. Plus, they have a wonderful breakfast! read more
