I had been talking to this Mariachi band for over 8 months up until Friday one day prior to the event on May 14th and was assured everything was ok and not to worry about anything. May 14th 6pm rolled around the day of and it was a NO CALL, NO SHOW for the Mariachi. Called "Laurencio" who i'd had all my phone conversations with in the past and was told they were at an event that would start at 630pm... and he really didn't know what happend or how things got crossed...asking me what happend... "I'm sorry but that would be for you to freaking figure out" He then proceded to offered if i wanted they could stop by around 830pm.... or they could swing bye and give me a discount for a few songs or a serenata... basically just a bunch of BS. For the public out there... open your eyes and don't take peoples word or let them BS you without a contract and tell you all will be fine. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

This review is for their performance in Houston…read more If you've been to other Cirque Du Soleil in the race park before then you know that there's no way around paying for parking. It will cost you $12 to park. The good thing about the parking is it was super organized so even though there were long lines of cars trying to park, the lines were moving; and once I had paid, the attendees directed me where to go and it took me less than a minute to park. Before you can enter the Grand Chapiteau, you have to go through your typical security measure. There are no metal detectors but they will look inside your purse if you have one. I was here with my sister and she didn't have a purse so we didn't even get checked. She did have a jacket on her but they didn't check it. This means you could sneak in your own snacks/drinks should you be inclined to. Why would one be inclined to sneak in their own snacks/drinks? Well, a bottled water/soda will run you $5. Nachos will run you $10. A Cotton candy will run you $8. Hot dog will run you $7. You see where I'm going with this? If you're coming here with your family (kids, wife, girlfriend, whatever), then you be better be ready to be dropping some $$$$. As for the show, it's your typical CDS stage/seating. You have the round stage with the seats surrounding them. I was lucky enough to get good seats to the right side and three rows from the stage so I was able to see everything clearly. If you opt to sit toward the back, some times you can't even see the faces of the performers clearly. The show started at eight on the dot. Some of the performances are pretty typical CDS where it would amaze you what a human body can do with training (contortionist, balancing act, juggling). Some of the other acts were more creative (invisible circus, finger dancing, animal impression). One act in particular was a combination of both where you have this dude playing yo-yo in the middle of the stage, but holy cow, he could control them yo-yos like they were a part of his body. I felt like he should have been competing in international yo-yo championship or something. All in all, I was happy with the show. This was also my sister's first Cirque Du Soleil and so everything was brand new to her and she was thoroughly impressed with the performances. CDS is always a fun event to go to and I definitely will go to whatever other Cirque Du Soleil shows that would make a stop in Houston.

Toilets looked like porta pottys but they actually had lights and hooks to hang your purse---speaking of...I walked in the stall and there hung a yellow bag and a Kurios souvenir! I was like...HOW can one forget ALL that? Turned it in to an employee...hope the lady got her stuff back. The seats are small and very close together...I chose an end seat so I'd only have one person beside me. My seats were stage right 8 rows back...awesome! Show was exciting...as usual, I was amazed. Our excellent wedding planner, Stephanie Tan at Peachy Events (who we highly recommend), suggested Divisi. We met with them and they suggested a string duo. They were very professional and easy to deal with. We simply selected songs (classic, pop, etc.) from their list. We could have also had songs converted to strings but did not use that option. During our wedding ceremony, the duo was very professional and perfect! They played contemporary music while the guests waited, wedding music for my bride and I, and My Universe (our song) on the way out. Our guests really loved them and this - combined with the Butterfly Garden and beautiful flowers for Linda and Secret Floral Garden - really made it feel even more ethereal in the butterfly garden! Overall, HIGHLY recommended if you would like to complement a beautiful location with beautiful music!

This string quartet was hired to play a composition recital as part of my hubby's undergraduate…read moremusic degree requirement. They were also hired by another student for their recital. They claim to be one of Houston's leading ensembles and the founder a graduate of Rice's School of Music, according to their website. They sounded pretty reputable. The other student's recital was scheduled before my hubby's so we got to see them in action a couple weeks before we would use them. My first impression I was kinda surprised by their appearance. From several years of going to performances I'm used to performance musicians wearing all black, it's pretty much the uniform. You can expect it from the Houston Symphony all the way down to your kid's piano recital. So I was a little confused when there were khakis and colored shirts. They performed in two pieces, one that was just the quartet and one with other instruments. The quartet piece they came to a halt in the middle of the piece because one of the violins went out of tune. The audience was confused, so the other violinist yelled out, "SHE NEEDS TO TUNE!" So did she forget to tune before they started or is she playing a broken violin? In the second piece the whole quartet jumped and cringed in the seats when the drums started. The male player, who I believe is the founder of the quartet, covered his ears the whole time during the drum section. I'm sure this looked great to everyone that he seemed to despise the music. He also knocked over his music stand during the piece. This all happened while they were onstage! I'm sorry but this is bizarre behavior from performance musicians, and I'm sure in anyone's opinion not professional. So I sat there thinking "is it really too late to go with someone else?!" Sadly, it was too late and I dreaded what would happen at my hubby's recital. Three days before his recital was scheduled Fine Arts Strings canceled on us! Seriously! This is the last thing required before graduation and guess what it keeps him from graduating. We were in a panic on how to fix it. I called Divisi Strings, they played the quartet originally at our wedding, and success! They were willing and available to play with three days notice! We hadn't checked with them originally because Fine Arts Quartet was giving us a "discount" because of the nature of the performance. Come to find Divisi Strings would do it for cheaper! Sadly the Dean of Music at my hubby's school would not approve the change with such short notice. So thanks Fine Arts Strings you have kept my hubby from graduating this semester. We are still waiting to find out from the Dean if the school is going to make us pay tuition again for when the recital is rescheduled, because the student is required to be enrolled. So they cost him his graduation and possibly another several thousand dollars in tuition! Divisi Strings is great and I love them and their true professionalism and talent. We should have never gone with anyone else. If you feel like you need to go with Fine Arts Strings make sure to demand they sign a contract or they could leave you high and dry as well!

I am not a musician myself, so it was very important to me to find the right person to instruct my daughter since they would be the only influence on her musically besides what she gets in school. Emilio is a very talented violin player and is a very professional instructor. It is good to know that my daughter is in capable hands, as he has a degree in music and has many years of experience playing. My daughter was brand new to the violin when she started seeing Emilio and he has taught her very much in the past year. She also has violin in school, and you can see the benefits of her taking private lessons with Emilio when you compare her to the other students. He instructs her with a variety of techniques and keeps things fun, but he also maintains the appropriate amount of discipline and will let my daughter know if he thinks she is slacking off and not practicing in her own time or not focused in the lessons. Even on days when my daughter is not focused or isn't playing well, Emilio is very patient. My daughter never complains about going to violin lessons and actually looks forward to going to violin. She has a great relationship and rapport with Emilio, and we will keep working with him as long as my daughter continues to play.
