Customers can also transfer downstairs to the metro (subway) line L2. Train tickets can be bought at the station or in advance online, I'd suggest booking earlier as ticket prices for regional legs to other major cities can increase closer to departure. Exterior and interior are modern, with triangular/diagonal/geometric design elements. Within the station several large overhead displays show arrival origins and departure destinations, scheduled/actual times, platforms, and special notes like notifications to board or delays. Travelers wait in the main lobby until platform numbers are published about 15-20 minutes prior to departure for regional trains, then head thru a preliminary ticket check (security checking that each passenger is ticketed), into the train platforms in the inner part of the station. Individual train info is also posted at each platform. Note for Circumvesuviana trains, they don't publish all intermediate stops on the displays so double check your departure time and destination are actually valid for your train route time. I inadvertently tried to get on the wrong train (following directions from Gmaps), only to be directed by a helpful train staff member to the next train on opposite platform arriving 20 minutes later. Inside the main train hall aside from ticket offices and machines, a tourist info center and currency exchange, there are probably two dozen shops and restaurants, not including a separate food hall with a dozen local and chain restaurants, bars and bakeries. From McDonald's and Starbucks to Toasthouse, Sushi Daily, Fresca Pizzeria Trattoria, Cuori di Sfolgliatella and Scaturchio Pasticceria. Within the rest of the station there's a grocery store, bookstore, souvenir, jewelry and trinket stores, cafes, fast food spots, bathrooms. Luggage storage available in station or in the blocks surrounding, which I'd recommend booking in advance. Overall the station was clean, functional and safe. I've no qualms about transiting thru here again!

I made a huge mistake and thought that the 1020am express train was a part of the tap on/tap off system but I was supremely wrong. Luckily there was a 1038 train with a transfer to make it to our destination. The ticket office is a great help, even if the line may be long, because the person working was very helpful in explaining the tickets to me. There were also people outside of that train who could help guide you in the correct direction. There is a café that we ate at in the morning before heading to Rome. It was shockingly good for a place that heats things with a microwave and not very expensive. There is a nice seating area that you can rest and/or eat in with a platform board. It's a small station but there are 4 platforms so you still have to pay attention to which train you are getting on. Also, it may not seem like it, but there is an elevator if you need to use it.

Approaching from the front, there's a roundabout (Piazza Giovanni Battista de Curtis) in front for pickup and drop off. You go up a flight of stairs or escalator to the second floor where tickets can be purchased at machines or a couple manned ticket windows on the left. Then turnstiles to the tracks are straight toward the back of the station. The front facade and second floor balcony is semi-open to the elements aside from the open-eaved awning. There are 4 tracks, and access to three of them is via a tunnel below the first track, then stairs. I can't recall whether an elevator is available, you might need special assistance or a different entry for special accessibility needs. This is the terminal station for the Circumvesuviana local commuter train to/from Naples. It's no luxury ride though functional and affordable at €4.80 to Naples, a 1 hour 15 minute trip. Aside from its rectangular, blocky countenance with a partially open front, the station didn't leave too strong of an impression. The one ticket window staff member interaction I had was brief and neutral. Station cleanliness was mid to decent.

When I say Salerno station was a blur, it was because I ran thru it at top speed. ^_^…read more My train from Naples left 45 minutes late, and my originally ample one hour window to walk leisurely around the city and port district, potentially grabbing something to eat for lunch turned into a mad dash to make sure I caught my connecting ferry to Amalfi. That being said, from my peripheral vision the station looked in decent shape, nothing standout, though fairly clean and functional. There are several train platforms from which you alight from an arriving train, then take stairs or elevator to descend under to a connecting tunnel, from where you follow signs to the exit. If I recall correctly you don't need to scan a ticket to exit. Just have to look for the exit turnstiles (the same as the entry turnstiles though follow the signs that show which ones to use for in versus out). The main exit is at the south face of the station, I paused briefly here to check that I was headed in the correct direction and snapped a couple pics of the front, a stately white-washed building, the nicest train station facade in the city. A taxi stand is right outside of the entrance, parking is available around the traffic circle and in a lot directly in front. Seemed pretty full for a Tuesday afternoon. A war monument stands in the center of the plaza. The walk from the station to the marina where Travel Mar ferry departs--to the towns along the Amalfi Coast--is about 7-8 minutes, then a few more minutes to the end of the pier where you embark. Thankfully I made it with 5 minutes to spare before they started boarding! Around the station are blocks of residential, retail and restaurants, many options if you're looking for a bite to eat.

There is coffee shop with a friendly counter person. We had coffee and pastries. Underground passageway to connect to the platforms. Stairs, no elevators.
