We will not be returning. Ignored for five minutes while waiting to be seated, decided to get our milkshake to go instead. Ate a cookie while we waited... and waited... and waited. 10 minutes later (and asking where our order went), we had what appeared to be our chocolate milkshake. Except it didn't taste like chocolate, it tasted like a fruity (maybe strawberry?) milkshake. Maybe they forgot to wash off the machine in between milkshakes? Regardless, it was not drinkable. The restaurant wasn't even 1/3 full so we should have been seated rather quickly- however the tables and booths had not been cleared, no one would even greet us or the other couple standing there. This restaurant is HORRIBLE. when u pull up to the drive thru u better pray someone even says anything to u so u can order. Most of the time u just sit there and look like an idiot for 5-10 min hoping someone will take ur order when they are probably inside praying u drive away. Once u have ordered u will sit in like for at least 20-30 min. The order is ALWAYS wrong and if u check before driving away and are missing something it's like they completely ignore u are still sitting there bc u need something. DO NOT go inside to eat or u will never return. It's disgusting!!! The floors are filthy and caked with grease. If u make it to a table without falling down from the slippery floor u will need to bring ur own wipes for the table. We have asked for a rag before but the water the rag came out of was brown and gross. Our wrapped silverware was dirty. Our glasses were dirty. This last time we didn't even order we just got up and left. We have been inside to eat and no one comes to our table so we left. We have had the women at the drive thru window tell us she was sorry it took so long for her to come to the window bc she was watching an elderly couple walk across the parking lot and it was beautiful. True story. of course that time our order was wrong so i went inside to talk to the manager. The manager walks up and is sweating profusely, his shirt is half tucked in and when he tries to talk to his staff he doesn't know their names and they can't hear him bc they all have earbuds in. Terrible Steak & Shake Store I mean... I know... It's Steak & Shake. And I knew full well what that could mean for lunch, despite it being my boyfriend's favorite food. (Weird, right?) But this store... Well it exceeds the worst expectations. The service? Terrible. The wait? Terrible. The cleanliness? Non-existent. Upon arriving, we waited several minutes before being sat. It's 3:30 on a Sunday. It's not normal busy time, nor is this place busy. Despite a server sweeping her section to our right, and another rolling silverware about 10 feet away. Finally a different server emerged from the back and went to seat us in her section (Kathy) but because the booth had a bag of fries as a floor rug - we asked for a different table. This made her mad and let's say we never saw her again after being sat in the corner. After waiting about 10 more minutes emptily at our table I had to go up and request someone to help us. Another server (Hannah) who already was clearly busy tending to all the tables in the dining room told us she wasn't our server but she was happy to help. She immediately came out and took our order. I felt bad for her because it wasn't her fault we had such a terrible experience in our first 20 minutes, but at this point we were already debating on leaving to go somewhere else. After she took our order about 10-15 minutes later another server (No name tag?) came out and dropped our food off at another table who then pointed out it wasn't theirs. Lucky for us this server took the food back off their table and walked over to us and set it down and told us to "pretend it didn't come off another table." So whatever, we went with it and the food was actually good and the best part of the whole trip. Our shakes came after food but at least they came, right? I saw a few other tables get sat by the same server who sat us and they all waited an unreasonable amount of time to get helped. Not sure if Kat woman was just seating people and not telling anyone or if all the servers didn't care? I saw our girl Han try to get the other servers moving and everyone seemed pretty frustrated. Upon checking out we found ourselves among a small group of individuals waiting for carry out orders. One was demanding a refund for his order and someone dressed as a manager walked over from the grill and refunded him and apologized. Finally Hannah (Ms. Running the Store) came over and cashed us out. She was really nice, despite that she was clearly stressed. (Due to lack of a management and staffing? Not sure.) Either way, this store was Terrible (yep, with a capital T.) I suggest corporate consider cleaning this place up (theoretically and literally.) I think the local Dollar Tree, McDonalds, Burger King, White Castle, and any other budget brand could look like a 4-star store compared to this disaster of a restaurant. (Haterish? This S & S will soon join the W. Washington location that recently closed. If you dummies don't want to hand McDonalds and White Castle late night business you'll get rid of the late night crew. The place couldn't look more closed (all blinds pulled, no movement inside) or try any less (wait in drive-thru until you have to say 'hello' then run off a list of stuff you're out of -coke and chili - ffs!) to serve customers. Awful service. We weren't welcomed into the store and none of the employees including the manager would make eye contact with us. We had to ask the manager to seat us after standing there for over 20 minutes, the people ahead of us were there for at least 30. If they would've said something like "we will get you seated as soon as possible we are but behind" or literally anything it would've been fine but every single person that worked there just pretended like we weren't there. The manager and servers kept complaining that it was busy but there were three servers and a manager and only 6 tables. I've taken care of twice that by myself and give outstanding service it's not that hard. The drive through was crazy so I was expecting my food to take awhile but it didn't so the kitchen staff is on it. Every time I've ever gone here the service has been absolutely awful. I do not recommend going to this restaurant at all. It was extremely dirty none of the servers were bussing tables yet servers were walking around empty handed. During our visit to Indianapolis, we stopped here on our 2nd night here. It was highly competitive for parking at this location and the place was packed. This was at 7:00 pm at night. My first impressions were that this place is VERY popular. After we were seated, 10 minutes later, we quickly got our order taken. One thing that astonished me was that while my head was buried into the menu, the whole place cleared out as they were done with their dinner. For my first meal of all time at Steak N Shake, I opted for the Double n' Cheese Steakburger, with fries and a Strawberry Shake. It was spectacular! The Steakburger was perfect and very flavorful. The fries, with the help of the burger/fry seasoning were delicious. My Strawberry shake was amazing. I do not remember the last time I had such a great shake. The place was clean, the service was great, the food was top notch. The entire meal with a family of 5 was under $30 with tip. I highly recommend this place! read more

Apparently this is the highest grossing Steak N Shake in the state, from what I have heard. Any time I go here, I run into someone I know. There are people hanging out 24/7. This is one of the places in Avon where you can just go and hang with friends for hours and have a milk shake or some cheese fries. I frequently go here with my father and mother, and every single time there has been at least 1 or 2 mistakes. Just a few nights ago we ordered takeout. My father's burger was loaded with everything when he didn't want it to be and mine didn't have the pickles I wanted. My mom also didn't get her second order of French fries. On numerous other occasions I have ordered a plain garlic double steak burger with nothing but cheese and pickles, and they either give me no garlic, no cheese, no pickles, or none of them. The workers at this location are incompetent and lazy and don't deserve a single star. I would give it a 0 if I could. I am not one to usually complain, but this is probably the worst experience I've had at a Steak N Shake. I am a big fan of Steak N Shake, even though it takes longer than other fast food chains, its always worth it. I hope today was just a bad day or something because i have those days too. However it was a longer than usual wait. When i got up front after ordering i was told the card reader is broken and Cash only. I had $5.00.... So i went next door to the ATM to take out cash, determined to get this Food. Went back into the drive thru. I ended up missing 1 item, and the burgers were burnt. Fries were pretty well done too, but those were edible. Probably the most burnt burger Ive ever had. I have been to steak n shake many times so i know their burgers can be a little crispy on the edges... which i like! However... this was beyond crispy. I had a very annoying and all too common experience at steak 'n Shake today. I went through the drive-through to order some food when I was ordering my food I was cut off about two or three times with is there anything else that you want in a very rude tone of voice. I brought up the fact that they were cutting me off and they double down on cutting me off again and raising there voice saying do you need anything else in even more snarky tone I didn't say anything I drove away and got some white castle instead which they did great. I try to go to this restaurant several times at night around 10 o'clock every time I do the employees are standing out back smoking. I wait at the intercom waiting to order and five minutes later someone may answer they come on the intercom and say we can't take your order right now it'll be about 10 minutes before we can take your order. I don't doubt the reason as well; their employees are usually lazy and gossiping in the kitchen. I dropped in here for lunch a couple of times with my colleagues. The place gets really crowded during the afternoon. Their $4 menu deals are awesome. There are so many options and I really get so confused every time what to order. They take really long time to get the food to your table which I do understand because of the large crowd. They do a fantastic job though. I love their cheese burger. They should really try to make the place look more tidy. That's the only problem which I have with this place. Horrible. I have had two bad experiences within the last two weeks at this location. Two weeks ago I went to this locations and was basically turned away. I arrived and sat in the drive through for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes I was approached by a worker and was informed that the drive-through attendant would not be there for another 20 minutes so we h ad to do a to go order in the dinning room. My husband went inside and tried to order. They were out of noodles for the chili five way and the chili three-way that we were about to order. We left since they didn't have the noodles. Tonight I tried to do a DoorDash order. Door dash estimated time was around 37 minutes. As of right now it's been 2 hour and 45 minutes. My DoorDash attendant has been sitting in the drive-through for over 25 minutes waiting for my food. This location should not have DoorDash. At least have a better estimated wait time of over an hour and a half. read more

This location has gone from a place I frequent, to a place I'm going to avoid at all costs. When you think their service is the worst it can get, guess again. Food takes ages, not only to order, but to receive. Wait times in the drive through can last over 20 minutes. Yesterday, I was the only one in the drive through, ordering for 2 people and that alone took 15 minutes. Shakes take sometimes 10 minutes to come out by itself. And by the time you get what your order, the food has gone cold because someone will often forget that your food is up and ready. I know the cooks there work their butts off, but it's a shame that the service staff can't do the same. I see the cooks crank out food faster than the service staff know what to do with it. read more

Steak and Ache I ordered a turkey club on MY rice bread (allergy to wheat) as I have been doing EVERY Tuesday for 11 years. I got a BLT on wheat bread (who knows what happened to the rice bread I gave the waiter). Sadly before realizing it I ate some (and am now sick) I called the manager and said :"this is wheat bread" He said "no it is sourdough". The other 3 people at my table yelled "SOURDOUGH IS WHEAT" He informed me that they will not accept anything from a customer (even though Indiana law requires it) and he had the nerve to charge me for the fries. I am PISSED. The help is getting worse and worse and to have that idiot who does not know what the restaurant serves for manager is unbelievable.
