Horrible customer service. I went to the front to make them aware if a peanut allergy to insure the right precautions were taken. The girl at the front told me that J shouldn't even be eating here if I had a peanut allergy. And continued to tell me that even after explain my situation. After she finally gave in my shake was made. She then cintinued to bring it to my table and say and I quite " If you drink this you will get sick". Which was severely uncalled for and was very rude. Talk about an endangered species. I cannot remember the last time I stepped foot in a Steak 'n Shake. It's certainly a remnant of a bygone era of American history. Every one I've been to has the same layout, including this one. Very colorful, vibrant and of course nostalgic. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the door was the lack of people (during lunch hour of all times). Pretty much sums up the company in a nutshell and makes me wonder why they haven't completely closed all their locations. Before I knew I found myself surrounded by kiosks, which I'm assuming are there to cut labor costs. Obviously they are convenient and you can ensure your order is made the way you intended, but the lack of person to person interaction really takes the charm away from a restaurant that is trying to live in the past. It also didn't help that some of the kiosks were out of commission, making me wonder if they really care to stay in business? I ended up ordering the garlic double steakburger combo which actually turned out to be satisfying. The French fries were obviously frozen prior, but they are good and they give you a decent amount. While the flavor of the garlic burger was what I expected, it was a bit overwhelming and the bun was just plain messy. I noticed most of the tables were not particularly clean which put a damper on the overall experience. The lack of human interaction was both a good and a bad thing, but service was quick and the food was decent had I ordered a normal burger. There's not much here that would make me want to come back considering there are so many burger places that are much better. Good luck Steak 'n Shake for the rest of this year and beyond. read more

You walk in you get ignored. They even look right at you more than once. I heard a lady claiming to be a manger screaming at a customer. Saying I ain't got time for this sh**. Driving by and I see this place. It's been SOOO long since I had a frisco melt. Yup! This is dinner. We get inside and things a little different. I've never been to THIS location before. There is NO waitstaff - only a kiosk to place your order. No one available to take the order. So customers are forced to use the touch screen to order food. I would have probably left at this part, but I now wanted that frisco melt. I ordered and promptly went to the bathroom to wash my hands. There was hand sanitizer near the touch screens, but nothing to clean the screens with. The soda/ tea was self serve, ketchup/mustard as well. We had to ask for a fork. There seemed to be about 4-5 employees working. No one to watch the dining room to assist people dining in or picking take out. Seemed like people picking up needing to "ask" for help. For starters 3 of the 5 kiosks for ordering were broken. One only took cash. So that left 1 kiosk available that takes card during lunch and dinner time. Not to mention the hair found in food, ketchup being out and no fry seasoning. Was told they were "out" and we had to purchase a bottle to get any. Waited at drive through and nobody came to take our order so we went inside to order take out. When they called us up to get our order we were missing food. When we asked for the missing items a man brought a bag out tossed it at us and walked away. When we got home we realized we were missing even more food than we thought. I hope it's just a one off sorta deal, but my bbq burger was void of bbq... and heat... and flavor. It looked like the Kansas of burgers. Just flat and uneventful. I'm not sure why it closed down but I always thought it was good before that. Finally went there again and the food is still really good and not expensive. I saw people have issues with having to get their own drinks and not be seated and served but I had no problems. Ordering on a kiosk makes for less communication errors in my opinion got my food quick and enjoyed it. read more

We havent dined in the building for awhile at Steak N Shake. We walked in, we were greeted promptly and sat quickly, however we were sat at a dirty table. The young lady wiped it and mentioned she didnt know why someone would put placemates down on a dirty table The floor had some spill on it that took them about 14 mins to mop. This one teenage girl asked another employee "what is this?", while playinf with some toy on the floor. It was legit about the size of a baseball, blue plastic toy. The guy replied " i dont know" and she said "well im not picking it up." And im sure that toy is STILL sitting there. Tables were dirty just ick! Our server was wonderful and honestly the only one who had his act together. Food was good, however the cheese wasnt melted on our burger even, and as usual the fries were not hot. I've never had good service at this Steak N Shake. My last experience was no different than all the rest. I was seated by a hostess and studied the menu for about 5 minutes. I then closed my menu to signal to whoever my waitress was that I was ready to order. After looking around like a lost child in a WalMart, i resorted to just reading the news on my cell phone for a few minutes. Finally, a waitress came over to me. I ordered my fancy burger and fries and went back to my cell phone. The food took about 15 minutes to get to me. I thought I remembered food taking less time there... They have a drive-thru, after all. Whatever. My food was alright. I love their fries... mmm shoestrings, so delicious. The burger patty itself was pretty tasteless but the cheddar cheese melted on top was awesome. It was average for Steak N Shake. My biggest annoyance was sitting at my table for about 5-10 minutes after I was done with my plate at the edge of the table. Obviously, in restaurant manners, this means I'm done and want my bill. After waiting long enough, I just got up and went to the cashier stand without my bill. The waitress came over and apologized, saying she had the bill and was about to bring it... I really enjoy their burgers, so many different kind. I Love their guac burger, western burger and they have geat chicken sandwiches. The fries ugggh could use some help shoestring not great although they're seasoning they sell by the bottle does help to spice them up, that being said fries not that important to me. It is a full service sit down type place reminiscent of a 50's dinner. Kinda cool my kids love they're milkshakes and they do half price early afternoon special on shakes. The prices are amazing and coupons are sent with good savings. A great family value for families on a budget. All in all as far as I am concerned one of the best east coast chains comparing burgers almost as good as In-n-out with a high definition. Ordered our drinks and took nearly 15 minutes to get them. Our food was at least a 45 minute wait and somehow they managed to get everyone's order right except for mine.
