Located away from the tourist spots and literally a 5 minute walk from a nearby U-Bahn station, this Steakhaus Angus is a hidden gem in Berlins eating scene. I speak some (fragmented) German and the staff were very patient in putting up with this and attempted to speak English where they could which was further appreciated. Ordered a beer, sirloin and chips; with a desert and the total came to about €14. The food quality was outstanding and all of us agreed that it was some of the best food we could ever remember having - needless to say we returned the day after for the same meal as we were that pleased. After wandering all about Viktoria Park this afternoon, a nosh and a drink were in order. I started to hit up the historic bungalow place, but wasn't feeling it - as I wandered up Kreuzberger Strasse I noticed STAROPRAMEN DARK on the awning... Say WHAT? Czech Cerny pivo on TAP? No way. Yes way. So, after confirming the menu looked good and that Staropramen Cerny was -actually- available... I settled in and ordered a schnitzel. With the schnitzel came a salad that was - well, really terrible. I'll just pretend that wasn't actually delivered to my table. Also included was a pile of fries, and those were fine - but here's the deal: All that was 3,75 euros. Adding the beer and a single scoop if ice cream brought my total to 6,75. For a full meal. Again, pretending that sad little salad never appeared. (honestly - epic piles of mayo does not make for a good 'dressing') The waitress was friendly, prompt and quite helpful. I enjoyed tipping her. The two guys sitting next to me ordered the Angus Burger - which looked AWESOME. Kinda grumpy I didn't get one of those myself... ok, not really. Next time for sure. Not bad! For 10.50€, you can get a well-cooked steak filet... That's a pretty solid deal in my book! I ordered broccoli and the garlic sauce on the side, was good as well. Definitely not over the top premium food, but you can't beat the price and quality! read more

If you filter Yelp for credit cards and got this place Yelp lied. NO CREDIT CARDS! Not a surprise...It's Berlin. But fore warning. The steak was decent but nothing special. The fries weren't all cooked. But not a bad place to eat. Very cute atmosphere. And the food was good. Just not great. read more

What's the difference between a restaurant and a fast food chain? In a restaurant you should have better service, the waiter pays attention to the special wishes of the customers and tries to satisfy the customer as much as possible. In a fast food chain you have a set menu that doesn't necessarily allow special wishes, the servant tries to get your order ASAP and give you your food ASAP as well. First off, I'm used to unfriendly staff at McDonald's or Burger King. In a restaurant I expect friendliness as well as better food (since the prices are usually a bit higher than at fast food places) and the possibility to ask for changes in the menu I order, especially if I offer to pay more (as I did!). My experience at Agnus? The waiter mixed up who had which drink (that's fine, happens to everyone) and after we told him he corrected his mistake. I asked if I can order a meal that was on the special menu from 11am-4pm (it was 6:30pm) and he said no. Unless I pay the menu price without the menu extras (7€). Well, for clarification: the noodles that I wanted to order weren't on the normal pasta menu and all the other pasta weren't even close to 7€ (way under 7€). Ridiculous that they charge such a high price for pasta that include less specials than the cheaper ones in the regular menu... That was the second mishap at the place. So then I asked if I could order a 4 cheese pizza and what the price was (since it wasn't on the menu). I have ordered 4 cheese pizzas at many different restaurants even though it wasn't on their menu either. The prices were always reasonable. Again the waiter gave me a price that was more expensive than any other pizza on the regular menu. No negotiations. Plus the way he said it made me feel like he didn't want me here and that I should just choose something and shut up. Strike number 2. I ended up ordering nachos Mexican style for 4.50€. Without sauce they tasted like nothing. They didn't have any seasoning and I might as well have eaten a piece of cardboard with the sauce. Furthermore I highly doubt that the nachos were home made. They tasted WORSE than what I get at the supermarket... For 4.50€ I could have made myself better nachos at home. And thrice more servings. The price would have been fine if the ambiente would have been alright. The surroundings: a random guy walking through the restaurant phoning loudly, a dog barking really loudly, and some mainstream music in the background (for heavens sake, if you are some special Italian restaurant then play some Italian music! I can listen to that in the car, I don't pay a restaurant for that stuff!). Oh wait, a dog? Apart from hygiene a dog should never be permitted in any restaurant! They are loud, may smell and someone might have an allergy. Atmosphere: 0 stars for a restaurant, 2 stars if it would have been McDonald's. It's typical for restaurants to give you bread before you receive your food. Usually it's home made and fresh. Do you remember the nachos I mentioned? Well the bread was definitely NOT fresh and it tasted like cardboard, just like my nachos. The salad my dad ordered didn't have any sauce on it. Neither oil nor yogurt sauce. It tasted like someone accidentally let a lemon fall on it. Strike 3 (for atmosphere and food). The only thing that's alright is the prices IF and only IF you order something exactly the way it's written in the menu. No exceptions. Oh and the excuse of the waiter for not taking any extra wishes: my boss said I am not aloud to do anything other than what's written there. Did your boss tell you to be unfriendly to your customers too? Because then you are a perfect employee. Unglaubliche Preise! Wir alle waren begeistert von dem Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Wir hatten Nudeln, Pizza, Filetsteak und Rumpsteak und uns hat es allen rundum geschmeckt. Totally awful, worst restaurant experience i've had, and I'm usually positive. First after waiting almost 1,5 hours we got our food, or almost all we had ordered. The beef was not well done as we asked for, but still it was dry and hard to chew. The "entricot" contained only lumps of meat with fat inbetween. Not worth the wait nor the money. Totally!!! for the price nothing to complain about! yes the meat may not be the tastiest, but who can complain about a 8.50 Euro sirloin steak?? The fries also tasted very good! Perfect after an exhausting day of biking through Mitte! Another great thing about this place is its proximity to Bergmann Strasse without being there. Not many tourists end up at the Angus, making this a welcome change from the touristy environment encountered across Mehringdamm. read more
