For me it was the beef cheek and the best potato mash/puree I have ever eaten. The chef was open to share his secret. I couldn't eat all mine so they gave we a container to take home the leftover. We were too full for dessert but the table next to us had the tarts and they looked amazing. They also allowed spilt bills which isn't heard of these days. We enjoyed the experience and wouldn't hesitate recommending Wooden Horse Restaurant.

Normally I would never look to this Muffin Break to grab myself a coffee, however, all the usual cafes I go to in the area had closed for the day and this was the only place open, where I could get my coffee fix. I gave it a go for the first time and never looked back. Compared to it's neighbouring cafe, the coffee blend and quality here are superb and exactly to my liking. The coffee is silky, full of rich flavour and smooth crema. The baristas who make the coffee here are fully trained in making the best coffees and their customer service is lovely, making this place a wonderful spot to pick up a coffee order.

The baristas are stellar (Marty in particular is pretty special) and really know their craft. They've recently introduced iced lattes and cold drips to their menu which is music to my ears because I think an iced latte may be my favourite drink of all time. Yes, you need to walk in to a shopping centre but trust me, it is well worth it. Parking is plentiful and the cafe is right next to the escalators on the woolworths side so you don't really need to venture in to the heart of the centre. They have lactose free milk (a god send for those lactose intolerant of us who also despise soy milk) and the service is quick and friendly. Their loyalty program isn't half bad either. It's free to join, you'll score two free coffees on them for joining and if you go anywhere near as frequent as me that loyalty card will score you a freebie a week. Also if you load the card with cash your coffees end up cheaper than the ticket price anyway. They have 8, 12 and 16 ounce sizes and the most you'll pay is $4.75 which I consider very reasonable. I typically get some form of their breakfast in the morning whether it is a muffin, bagel, or ciabatta sandwich with egg, cheese, and bacon - for Americans, this is that floppy wide stuff that is prevalent in Australia (NOT the long crispy stuff from the States). The sandwiches run from $4.50 to $6.50 and you can also typically add a coffee or tea for only 1-2 dollars more. I typically don't go that route only because I'm not terribly fond of their tea. Overall this is a very quaint, convenient, and efficient shop that just has a fantastic vibe to it. I haven't had lunch here just yet but many of my co-workers come here fairly regularly since it has quite a variety of cold cut sandwiches and fresh salads. Every day I see a line of people waiting to collect their orders during lunch but the patrons never seem to have to wait very long. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a quick bite to eat in the CBD!

It took me a while to pick the restaurant, but once I heard about Chef Ryan Squires, I knew this was the restaurant I wanted to go to. Squires has done stints at The French Laundry and el Bulli and with a resume like that, I was intrigued not only about his menu, but also, why/how this caliber of chef ends up in Brisbane. Well, I guess Squires returned back home to open esquire and it made me very happy to see something like this finally hit sleepy Brissie. We came here for lunch -- there were kids involved -- and like one of the other reviewers stated, making a reservation is kinda a pain in the butt. I made the reservation for 8 people about a week before our anticipated visit. I was told that I had to fill out a form and leave a credit card (not a problem). Anyway, after a few days I called back and gave them the credit card info and spoke to a really nice man who ended up letting the filling the form part go. On the day of our visit we arrive to an empty restaurant. The view is lovely, along the Brisbane River, and we were seated at one of those large square tables. Our server Joanna was lovely. I know usually restaurants do not allow some of the table to order the tasting menu and some not, but I think they made an exception seeing we were the only ones in the restaurant. I wanted to get the most of my visit, so order the prix fixe as well as off the a la carte. The prix fixe was AUD75 for 5 courses which includes 2 appetizer-ish dishes, 2-entrees and a dessert. The menu is seafood-heavy taking advantage of all the wonderful fresh seafood available Down Under. I love the presentation and there are definitely hints of the Ferran Adria look on some of the plates. My favorites were the smoked trout, charcoal grilled calamari and charcoal grilled baby octopus, buttermilk fried chicken. Didn't care for the wagyu pastrami. A stellar restaurant -- something Brisbane has needed for a very long time -- bravo!

The owners have definitely carved themselves out a personal escape with unique personality helped by local artists works on the walls. The staff, especially Kaz are a great bunch of people, always cheerful and happy to serve. It's almost like their loving life in this joint. The coffee they make in there is a fine drop, also their own little creations like the snickers and mars bar coffees go down a treat. There's a range of tasty sandwiches, pies and deserts to mung into, just make sure you get in there early because it goes fast because the public know its all good. Seating wise it a bit skint, but if you can get a seat you'll enjoy immersing yourself while you sit, chat and sip in the relaxed and quirky atmosphere.
