I was at Steinert's Greenhouse today shopping for plants when the owner, Theta Steinert, showed me a printout a customer had given her of the review here by Courtney W. I 'm old enough and experienced enough that I am rarely shocked by anything, but I was truly shocked by this review. And I have to respond. I've been shopping Steinert's for more than 10 years and could not be a happier customer. I've also learned that the nursery has been in business for more than a century, has been operated by Theta Steinert for more than 40 years, and is known throughout the Ozarks as a source of excellent plant stock and superb customer service. Contrary to Ms. W.'s review, the nursery is so good with customers, so caring, kind, and helpful, that it has legions of devoted patrons; in fact, many of the nursery's original customers from 40 years ago still shop there. It might also be noted that Theta Steinert's kindness and generosity extend to having provided all of the 190 roses that made the creation of the Rose Garden in the Springfield Botanical Gardens possible and she continues to provide its roses today. She also donates many, many plants to community gardens and other enterprises. I think Ms. W.'s reference to "their wrinkly old fingers" reveals the true spirit of her review. It is, in a word, mean-spirited. It appears also to be wildly inaccurate. Theta Steinert has no memory whatever of Ms. W. or any "green bean incident' or "tripping incident". As for the latter, I can assure you from all my dealings with Steinert's over the years that Ms. Steinert and her workers would never, ever laugh at another person's misfortune. I know them as extremely caring people. I have also seen them carry out countless transactions with other customers while waiting to be served and have never once seen the least sign of rudeness. Steinert's commercial success through the years has been phenomenal, and in great part due to an unassailable reputation for caring customer service, contrary to Ms. W.'s review. Anyone who cares to verify these facts and get the real Steinert's story need only visit the nursery. Thank you. read more

Good selection of nursery offerings--from very knowledgeable employees. Prices are to be expected, but plants are healthy.

I stopped by here because they seemed to have a variety of beautiful plants. Unfortunately, the service was horrible. It seemed the people even went out of their way to be rude. A man wearing a steinert shirt walked up to me and made eye contact. He. Noticed that I needed help and veered away. When I spoke up, 'Hi sir, can I ask you a question?' He acted like his cell phone was ringing and pretended to answer! The women inside were just as awful. I had parker with me and we went inside where they sell garden fresh produce. I had my son with me. He is 4. He loves green beans and got excited so he reached his little hand up to grab a green bean. I let him bc I intended to buy a pound of them. I would just take his at the time of purchase and stick it in the bag. I asked the old lady for prices and for a bag to put the green beans in and she was so rude. She told me that if he breaks that green bean or puts it in his mouth, I have to buy it!! I just stood there looking at her in disbelief. 'Ma'am, I want to buy a pound, he is just holding one...' Needless to say, we didn't make it out with a pound. And I did purchase the one green bean. As I grew more and more frustrated, I was ready to GYFO! I wanted to put everything back but I didn't. It was getting dark and I just wanted to get my plants and get home. They were rude when I paid. They were rude when I left and not one person asked to help me load the plants onto my car. The worst part of all of this was when an older man walked up and tripped on a step going into the building. The women inside laughed at him. It was disgusting. I started to walk over to help when he saw that they were literally slapping their knees laughing at him. He picked up a potted plant and started in yelling and screaming at those 'old hags' and threw that plant right at the window! They ran out pointing their wrinkly old fingers, shaking their fists. He peaked out of that place and left me standing there. I will never go back to that place again. The plants are pretty but they are the most disrespectful people I've ever met. Lowe's is cheaper with the same quality. read more

It seems to me like Courtney W has some serious personal problems. Steinert's is a really amazing place with excellent people.
