Upon arriving, we were fortunate enough to be welcomed by the lovely Sara Renner and her gracious husband, Thomas Grandi. Chocolates from a local business, Le Chocolatier, were an unexpected surprise waiting in our room - the salted caramel in milk chocolate was so good I was prompted to find the little shop up on Benchlands Trail to buy some more. We stayed in the Cabin Suite, which is a quiet, spacious and comfortable 2-bedroom suite on the main floor with a firm king bed and choice of synthetic or down pillows. There is also a separate bedroom with a double/single bunk, which would be perfect for kids or another family staying with you, as long as you're close because the king bed is open to the living space. There is one large bathroom and I enjoyed the separate shower's pebble floor and the soaker tub. The self-serve breakfast is plentiful with daily fresh baked bread and muffins, an egg frittata, super easy orange juicer, yogurt, in-house made granola, and fruit. Then there is the Miele coffee machine! Your choice of coffee (lungo, cappuccino, espresso, latte, etc.) at the push of a button - I made a mocha each morning with 2 spoonfuls of hot chocolate mix and a press of the double-shot macchiato button...delicious! The machine is available for use at any time. The staff are wonderful. Jonathan at the front desk is helpful with any need you may have in the kitchen or otherwise. Canmore is his hometown, so he is knowledgeable about the area, hiking trails, back country skiing, etc. Chef Shannon whipped-up the delicious breakfast each morning and is a great conversationalist with a warm personality and wonderful sense of humour. If you're an early riser like me, it's great to be able to make yourself a good cup of coffee and have a visit in the kitchen. All in all, our stay at the Paintbox Lodge was terrific. I highly recommend staying here and am looking forward to the time we return.

Breakfast in the morning was phenomenal, as chef Matt prepared us some "all inclusive" French-style omelettes in addition to the fresh fruit, toast, and bircher muesli (I think that's what it's called) that we're available. The B&B is located very close to the downtown part of Canmore but just far enough away that it feels secluded and free of the traffic noise from town. One of our favorite things aside from breakfast was watching the colorful bunnies that frequent their front yard. Check-in and check-out were also quick and very easy. We really couldn't have asked for better hosts and a better stay, I would highly recommend a stay at The Howling Wolf to anyone looking to visit the Canmore/Banff area.

Karin and Matthias are the owners of this home. They are a sweet couple from Sweden. Every morning you're greeted with a wonderfully made breakfast from Matthias, who use to be a chef. There are three bedrooms each with their private bathrooms and a king/queen size bed. Always freshly made. I have been to this bed and breakfast twice now and I will never go anywhere else. It is located within walking distance from the town centre and surrounded by beautiful scenic mountains. This is an awesome little romantic bed and breakfast getaway for any couple. The Buffaloberry's berries are not only favorite treats of the birds and bears, but were also used by the Plains Indians to flavor buffalo meat. A more appropriate (and cuter) name couldn't have been found for James and Theresa's property, as you will learn about their passion for wildlife, native plants, and culinary endeavors while staying with them. The personable James and Theresa are true professionals, skilled in the art of hospitality and home-building. They designed and built The Buffaloberry Bed and Breakfast from the ground up to be a gorgeous home with a purpose: the purpose of treating guests to the best B&B experience ever. Four bedrooms (two on each floor) are located near the entrance of the property. The living space with comfortable couches, a fireplace, bar area and outdoor patio, is shared with everyone. The breakfast table is shared, as well, which is separated from the kitchen by a sliding door. You can just imagine what wondrous creations are being made behind that door while you sit and enjoy your coffee or tea, yogurt, fruit salad, homemade granola and muffins before the hot portion of the meal is served. Theresa's recipes are tested and experimented with several times until she feels she has everything just right. And she definitely has everything just right! From whole soft-cooked eggs in Canadian bacon pockets to souffle-like Camembert scrambled eggs with onions and chicken apple sausage to buckwheat blueberry pancakes to croissant French toast...we were in B&B heaven. We were provided with excellent suggestions for our explorations around Banff, including hikes of varying levels of difficulty and sites of historical interest. The property was perfectly located just a few blocks from the main part of town with a Safeway along the way. No review of a B&B would be complete without comments about the rooms themselves. At The Buffaloberry, every detail has been thought of and taken care of for you. Each room has a private bathroom (two have shower stalls and two have showers over tubs) with plenty of towels and travel-sized soap/shampoo. The queen-sized beds are very comfortable and covered with high quality linens and super warm yet lightweight duvets. There are small TVs over a desk, and the two rooms facing the front of the property have additional windows from which you can see some of the mountains of Banff. The entire B&B is tastefully and warmly decorated; the beautiful Canadian pine and special flooring offer a very comfortable yet elegant style that we definitely enjoyed. Due to the limited hours we missed it our first day because we had to head out early to the ice field parkway. We booked the king deluxe, which was located in the carriage house. It had a beautiful extra large soaking tub, radiant heated shower floor, bar sink, mini fridge, sun window, screened patio, and faux fireplace. I had a wonderful spa like soak every evening. Perfect after a cold and rainy day exploring Banff. There are also plenty of books, games, and puzzles available in the main house.

The shared kitchen is loaded with goodies, so you never have to worry about going hungry. Walk out the patio doors from the living room and you are relaxing with a beautiful "Mountain View". Get it? Plenty of room to park in the back drive. The landlords are great. Very friendly and accommodating. The house is so clean, you could eat from the floor. I'm a little worried about posting this because it may impede my ability to rent it in the future. All of you guys are going to want to check it out.
