The wine list had a bunch of Umbrian gems. The waiter spoke a decent amount of English and was able to guide us through the wine list and the menu. He was also very patient with us and didn't rush us to finish our meal despite being the last diners there. We started with the prosciutto de norcia. It was heavenly, especially with the excellent local wine. We then shared the penne alla norcina, which was phenomenal. The penne was perfectly chewy, and the sauce was perfectly seasoned and creamy. The pork chop I had was one of the best pork chops I have had in my whole life. My husband had the excellent local sausage. We had such a good experience our first night in Perugia, we returned to Cesarino the next day as well. Both nights were wonderful.

I LOVED the mood here. Decorated with books, wine bottles, and tasteful nudes. And THE FOOD HERE OMG. Definitely not all typical Italian food. It is so innovative and delicious. We ordered the land tasting menu and the vegetarian tasting menu. For only 32 and 30 Euro, respectively, these meals were a steal. Especially considering they are the same standards as tasting menus costing well over 100. My favorite was a beetroot spaghetti with lime zest. I would travel here just for that dish. We were recommended a local red wine. Also a steal at 4 Euro per glass. The staff operated so smoothly and efficiently. Though they all seemed to do things a little differently. Some were careful to explain each of our dishes, while it was clear others were a little grumpy - however this in no way impacted our experience.

Our dishes were the pene pasta arrabiata, the spaghetti with black olives and truffle shavings and a local tripe dish. We don't eat meat but on adventures such as this, we look forward to tasting what the local cuisine has to offer. We prefer seafood but there wasn't any on the menu. Our server, Alessandro, recommended the tripe which we readily accepted. All three dishes turned out to be excellent choices. The pasta were cooked to perfection - al dente. The arrabiata was perfectly spiced. The balance between the black olives and truffles in the spaghetti gave it an earthy aroma and teased our palates so that we could not stop eating the darned dish! The tripe? Heavenly! Reminded us of mom's callos except that this tripe had a melt-in-your mouth consistency. All the food we had were prepared Umbrian style and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite! Definitely recommend this place if you want a taste of the local cuisine.
