This review is long overdue but I just want to express how much I love and appreciate Step by Step. My son started VPK this year and he was pretty behind and had no interest in school but with much patience and love Ms Stacey and Ms Gracie have worked with him and we can see the progress he's made and the love for learning beginning to show. He is doing so much better with his writing and fine motor skills. He loves counting EVERYTHING now and even his vocabulary and expression/manners have improved. My daughter was only at Step by Step II in Yulee, FL for four days, but this was more than enough time to see obvious issues regarding the child care in the infant room. One day our daughter was fighting her bottles and we were not once notified. It was not until I called that afternoon to check on her that I even knew they were having issues. Therefore, she had gone 9 hours without food that day and nobody thought to call myself or my husband. Two of the other four days, our daughter was not offered a bottle for over 4.5 hours. In addition to the issues regarding feedings, it is concerning that our daughter's diaper was not changed that frequently. There was one day, for example, where she went 5 hours without a diaper change. Also, after visiting another daycare and reading laws and requirements enforced by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) governing child care facilities, we realized that Step by Step was not abiding by all of the laws and requirements. Step by Step II told us to keep our daughter's pacifier on a pacifier holder which has a string, and Step by Step did not attempt to get our daughter to sleep in her crib to our knowledge. However, per DCF, cords such as the pacifier holder which can encircle a child's neck should not be accessible to children. In addition, children up to one year of age must be in a crib or playpen for napping. My husband asked one of the days if they had tried to get our daughter to sleep in her bed at all, and he was told no. While these were not huge issues to us personally, it is concerning that Step by Step II would disregard these requirements. In addition, not once were we asked for immunization records or a physical. I am not sure if the daycare even cared whether or not our child had her shots, which is also concerning. Overall, we had a really unfortunate experience with Step by Step II. If we had known about these issues before enrolling her, we would not have sent her there. However, it all worked out in the end because our daughter is now going to a daycare we are really happy with. read more

Here's a honest review from a dad looking for a day care center for his 1 year old. My wife and I heard that this place was a really good place for our child. Let me start off by saying...NO. We entered one of the two entrances of the building and were told that the other entrance was the one we needed to be at to look into registering our son there. The lady escorted us to the other side of the building and we were able to see some of the class rooms. It's an open room design though. Not bad I thought...strange smell but that's a given right? I remember schools and such smelling a little odd at a young age. We then arrived at the desk by the entrance we should have come to first. We were given a pamphlet and the necessary paperwork needed to register our son. The staff was strange...dodgy is the best term to describe them. They didn't know exactly when our son could start and just couldn't really answer our questions. After a few awkward moments from just being in the proximity of these two staff members, my wife and I were asked if we wanted to see where our kid would be if he did come here. We said yes and one lady proceeded to walk us to a corner of the building. She said that the room used to be bigger and now it's been divided for different age groups. The smell was just awful. Everything was disgusting, unclean and old as can be. The toys these kids were playing with look like they've never EVER been cleaned and every kid looked sick. We could hear someone in the next room screaming at kids. I was truly worried for my sons safety, let alone all the other kid's safety. Honestly, I would have been completely embarrassed to show anyone that facility. It was a disgrace and should be shutdown immediately. Absolutely unclean and the staff were awful. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT bring your kids here. This place needs to be inspected ASAP and shut down for good. Just WOW. If you don't believe this review, then do yourself a favor and take a tour unannounced. Bring some hand sanitizer. If you don't, then you'll wish you had. read more

I've been taking my kids here for a few months now, and this is a very good daycare. I've been spoiled by military daycares that are government subsidized and have state of the art surveillance technology as well as huge, luxurious buildings, and this daycare does not necessarily have those advantages but it's just as good. The ratios of teachers to kids are larger but not unreasonable, food is provided, they offer VPK which is great for my 4 yo, they keep it as clean and organized as you would expect a building full of children to be, and they are helpful and quick to accommodate you or your child if you have concerns. Their prices are competitive too, especially compared to other parts of the country and even local military daycares. My 2 yo especially loves his teacher, and the front desk staff is always friendly. My only "but" is that they do watch a bit of tv, not a big deal, I totally understand it from a crowd control perspective and we do watch tv at home, it's just different from the other daycares we've been to.
