Booster shots given and with a clean bill of health, we finalised the necessary payment and commended Dr. John for a great consultation. The reception is usually manned by one staff who is well trained and I was extremely happy when she displayed knowledge on booster shots for adult cats. They didn't have heaps of little/young puppies and these were the only 2 we really liked. So a lady that worked there opened the cage and let us go in with them. She came up to us stright away and was so inquisitive. So we decided to get her. Well apparently since we had a dog already we were required to go home and get our existing dog and bring it up to the RSPCA to be put inside a larger enclosure with us AND the new puppy we wanted. If all was ok THEN we could buy the dog. Well all went well and we walked out with a new puppy :-) Considering you get a desexed and vaccinated animal, and in fact mine was even microchipped (which also saves money on dog registration each year with my council) it is really cheap as there is a set price for a dog, cat and rabbit. So it doesn't matter which one you choose or what breed it is, which is great. They have an excellent website where you can view pets they have available at the shelter. They also have boarding kennels and a cattery if you have to go away. I even noticed a horse in one of the area's this time I went.

Our dogs are excited to go in when we pull up into the carpark and love their visit (and especially when they get a treat for being good). We have never had excessive treatments recommended like we have at other vets but they will always offer to investigate if we are nervous or unsure for our own peace of mind. 100% recommend

In the surgeries, they always have someone monitoring the rabbits vitals as well as the vet doing the surgery and the ladies at the front desk talk to me about wonderful my bunnies are to play with (I don't care if they say this to everyone!). They call me as soon as surgery is over and are open nice and early and until 8 pm which is super convenient. I drive 40 mins to go to this vet rather than any local ones. Highly highly recommended for small animals. :)

Our dog also attended puppy pre school some years ago and the trainer was friendly. However, over the years we eventually had too much of poor veterinary services to go back. Firstly a vet harassing us that our dog was not purebred and was a "mutt". What kind of shit person skills do you have to have to say that about someone's family member? And not to mention the fact that purebred dogs are genetically more susceptible to problems given inbreeding. If people are handing you hundreds of dollars to perform a standard service, you think you could be pleasant and hold off on rude, pretentious comments. Secondly, when my dog was in to get her nails clipped, the vet or vet nurse came back out with her, angry that we had not warned she may try to bite. It's a dog. Dogs can get angry when you do things they don't like. I've known that since I was a child, and was shocked that someone supposedly trained to work with animals was too ignorant to realise a dog getting upset was a possibility when clipping their nails. Thirdly, several years ago my dog was bitten by a spider. We took her here with classic symptoms, showed the bite mark, and were told the two issues were not related. They would do bloodwork and fix the bite (or in their case, mystery mark) after. We are unsure if this blatantly incompetent judgement was due to us suggesting the connection, or because it meant they could squeeze more money out of us. As our dog was extremely ill, we looked for another vet. It's been a number of years since we found the Blackwood Vets. They aren't a chain like this place. The vets and vet nurses care so much about every animal that comes through their doors. I will never ever go to a chain vet again, and certainly not my local one. Vets who genuinely care about the animals they see are worth their weight in gold.

But like a good doctor, you end up finding a favourite and sticking with them. Unley Vet is such a place. As my childhood friends (and pseudo brothers and sisters to said only child) began to get a lot older and more decrepid, we would rely on the caring and loving nature of the local female vets at this clinic. They would always provide a range of care options and were so knowledgeable about everything that was going on with our (what felt like) 100 year old cats and dogs that we knew we could trust leaving them over night or staying there in their care. Fast forward 12 years on and there was no question where I would take my little baby (kitten) for his first vaccinations and care. The service is still just as friendly, they get excited by your pet's name, let alone their personality, and have even sent us additional "your first kitten" information since we went there. Prices are reasonable and advice is non-bias and brief but they always have time for you to answer more questions or are happy to send out more information. If only Dr Harry or the Bondi Vet worked here...

However I guess if you're at the vet with your adorable pet you are most likely in need of some professional assistance! We have been frequenting Unley Vet for many years with an assortment of dogs and cats in their latter years and all the vets there have been absolutely invaluable and supportive in their care and advice. They truly love animals and treat yours as if they are the most gorgeous and beautiful in the world (which of course they are)! Our current cat was a foundling abandoned on their doorstep at 2 weeks old who they hand reared and named until we could take him home so Unley Veterinary Surgery holds a special place in our hearts however I can unbiasedly endorse their professional approach and care. Having an Italian greyhound means ALOT of money goes in to weird niche dog things the breed needs, one of which is a special tooth gel. Long story short I saved myself a good thirty dollars because this store is the only one in Adelaide that randomly carries it so five stars for getting in super niche things essential to particular breeds. But what REALLY impressed me was the knowledge the staff had, they let us know about the puppy school they host which was under $100 for five classes (something most other dog stores don't do), gave me loads of tips about introducing my two dogs, tips about the breed and best yet they didn't pressure me to buy any dumb little add-ons at the counter (because like all pet owners we spend our rent money on stacks of dog toys as it is). As I write this yelp one of my Cats (Samurai) is actually dribbling on my leg, an yet I don't throw him across the room yelling 'fly supercat', that is just how much of an animal guy I am! I often drop in to Petstock on the way home to pick up some stupidly expensive (but scientifically formulated) cat food and also to tap on the many fish tanks! It is a huge store, encompassing everything from food, toys, living quarters (doghouses) and many things that you look at and think "who the hell would buy that for their pet....it would look great on me!" I took Arthur to the puppy preschool that is available here, and while it sounds ridiculous it's a really good idea because it allows for your pup to get used to other dogs and they teach you how to teach your pet; If you're local this is a good option. While vet's are always going to be pricey at least at Aldgate Vet Clinic you have the sense that it isn't just a job and these people actually really care for your pet...maybe even love them...maybe not. Pick me, pick me!…read more That's what all the dogs and cats say to me when I go here, it's pretty sad but cute and happy at the same time. My family and I came and looked here for a puppy a couple of years ago, and I just wanted to take them all with me! We actually ended up getting a puppy from a friend elsewhere, but only because we needed a certain type of dog for our house and yard etc and Animal Welfare didn't have a suitable one at the time. But the animals all look as happy as they can be in this situation, fed, water, played with. But they just sit there waiting for homes. The work they do is great for cats and dogs who need to find homes, I just wish so many wouldn't end up here in the 1st place.
