The halls themselves are very grand and old-fashioned. Beautiful large windows let the light in from every corner (at night this has the effect of making things a bit chilly though) and old paintings hang proudly on the wall. It's the kind of place you find charity auctions and gala balls although most people will recognise it as the place from the BBC 1 trail, you know the one where the two women slide down the curtains elaborately? No? Just me then... Most recently the venue hosted Secret Cinema, the ever impressive cult cinema event. The blend between old and new worked really well and it was clearly a big treat for people who would never otherwise enter this building to be able to enjoy a night out here. I suggest it's worth keeping your eyes open for similar events, charity do's and the like because this really is a great building to enjoy a bit of decadence in.

It's not the easiest venue in the world to find, although as filimbouk points-out, once you're in vast Vincent Square, you'll find it eventually! As soon as you enter the building, it has a much more pleasant feeling than many other exhibition venues. Far less 'industrial' and cold. Inside, it's beautifully maintained with impeccable stair carpeting, an immaculate lift, attractive (rather than industrial) light fittings inside the (show) hall. You're far less likely to get the same feeling of weariness here that can often be a real downside at other trade fair sites. The seminar and conference rooms are located on the second floor (a steep stair climb or quick lift journey away), with the ladies on the same floor and the men's on the third. The ladies loos were pristine. The seminar room wasn't too vast, comfortable to sit-in, providing easy viewing and good acoustics. I didn't get the chance to visit the café area, as I didn't spot any obvious signage telling me about it

I then looked up their website and decided to pay them a visit as I am a big fan of mosaic art. What I discovered was any creative person's dream come true! A colourful underground world of visually inspirational mosaic pieces hanging on all the walls of a permanent space where you can come to participate in an open and friendly creative community. It's open every week day and participation is for free! You don't even have to be an expert, the idea is that anyone and everyone can come together and try their hand at this historical tactile, artform, united in one cause; to make London a brighter, happier, more beautiful place!

Kingsgate Workshops is one of my favourites and not just because it is in cycling distance to my home. They have studios and workshops across three levels of an old warehouse with ceramics, jewellery, textiles and paintings all created under one roof - as well as luthiers and violin makers! This year they operated a barbecue in the yard, nice touch!

Most of the shops sell shoes, so if you enjoy browsing and buying shoes, you can't find a better place than this. Most shoe brands you can think of a represented here - Jones Bootmaker, Kurt Geiger, Bertie, Office, Dune, Pied a Terre Apart from shoes, there are also more upmarket clothing brands like Ted Baker, Whistles, Reiss, Karen Millen and many othesr. The star attraction is the Browns store, with their amazing selection of high fashion brands, for both men and women. You'll need some serious money to shop there, so not the place for bargain hunters obviously. There are several coffee places interspersed between the shops, and the outside tables are always taken, even on the coldest of days. I often come here when shopping in the nearby Selfridges store, in order to feed my shoe addiction.

The Bodo Sperlein shop is a bit intimidating with its clean minimalism and high prices. Still, it's worth dreaming.

I agree the mirrors are a bit off his brand philosophy and the extremeties of the two materials doen't marry off well. Visit his very busy(layout) store in the famous Oxo Tower. For the size of shop space, he sure does have a lot going on in there and it kinda contradicts the minimalism effect. Truely fine detailing and finishes to the products of this German designer.

On Arrival I was delighted to see that the Cube London was located right next to spitalfields Market which is one of the hot spots for fashionites, the deco was great and there was vibrancy about the place I was greeted by a enthusiastic receptionist who was more than willing to tell me about all the resource available at the cube, it was very clear to me that the cube is more than just a workspace, it is a business resource centre and home to a diverse creative community. The cube is fantastic for people starting out in business and student needing career support ... we need more facilities like The Cube London ... keep up the good work guys

Visited National Portait Gallery August 2007. Been before but enjoyed even more the second time…read more The work on display is fantastic which includes paintings of famous people by various artists. It is a relatively small gallery but full of quality work. The exhibition on at the time was the portrait competition, which was a joy to see such wonderful work and be able to examine at such close quarters. Unfortunately we arrived quite late and did not have as much time as we would have hoped for.
