We've been with Shanna almost since the beginning when HFS was basically just a one woman show…read more She's been very helpful in providing good advice to insure that the money that we have had invested so far through 401k and other means continues to grow. Through her company there's access to other financial tools to help anyone out to get their financial life's not only on track, but ahead of the curve. We recommend her highly if you're looking for someone who won't blow smoke up your (you know what) and will provide solid advice on which you can actually bank! She just opened a larger office and now employs a few advisors who are just as personable and willing to help as Shanna is.

However, knowing there are folks out there who aren't very comfortable/familiar with investing/planning for retirement I wanted to provide my honest opinion about Heritage Financial Strategies. I was looking for a new financial advisor after the previous one, that I actually had a good 3-year run with, decided to put more effort into researching tools of the trade than helping his clients and their retirement goals. My mother and I met with Shanna and decided to give her a try (she was to manage my mom's retirement accounts). In the first few months she seemed to be doing ok, even though the lines of communication weren't the greatest with her. BUT, to be fair, her assistant, Emily, was always fantastic to deal with. Then she went dark, and after some not so nice emails from my mom, she told us if we want to schedule reviews with her that we need to go online and schedule through a link she provided. Now, that information would have been wonderful to know at the start rather than being treated like we were junk on the side of the road. Also, I had to do some pushing to get recommendations on whether or not some stock should be sold and what she had in mind for purchase. Not exactly the way this "financial advisor" thing is supposed to work. I just want folks who are not familiar with investing/markets/planning for retirement to perhaps think about going somewhere else lest you deal with 0% return over the course of a year.

Disclaimer: Rating may increase to 5 stars after we pass the 1-year mark with TJ…read more I came to Empire Wealth Management after dealing with some questionable "financial advisors" and was initially jaded by all the interviews I had gone through with other companies and their advisors telling me what they thought I wanted to hear and what they can do my mother's retirement portfolio. I decided to give TJ at Empire Wealth Management a try due to his honesty in answering not only my questions but also being able to handle the death stare and questions my mother posed. First and foremost, he took a look at my mother's portfolio and with a quizzical expression on his face said he couldn't understand what financial direction the portfolio was headed in since its investments were all over the place (thanks to the wonderful work of previous "advisors"). Then, he walked us through a risk analysis to determine exactly how comfortable my mom is with risk even though she kept telling him she was looking for growth. Mind you, her actual tolerance for risk isn't very high (I wasn't surprised by this). After this and discussions on what types of investment vehicles my mother was interested in, he presented a plan. I was impressed by his proposal for rearranging investments as well as informing my mom and I that his plan would allow him to make trades (nothing crazy like day trading) without requiring approval from my mom or I, provided the investment choices were in line with our defined plan/goals/investment vehicles. We have been with TJ since the start of 2017 and so far I've been impressed with how the portfolio is moving as well as his availability to answer any questions my wonderful mom may have for him. I was rather surprised that no one has rated this company yet and I felt the need to let others know that there are in fact decent people out there who can actually help you with your retirement goals. TJ is one of those guys that just took a bit of time to find after digging through the weeds of the less than desirable.
