An childhood friend of mine's dad owns this place so I was really excited to try it for the first time. The steaks are delicious and their soups are also amazing. I am a sucker for a good soup. Seriously. The dinner is upscale and a bit expensive but they also have great lunches including a very juicy prime rib sandwich. The Seafood is really fresh here! Had the Raw oysters and they were very good, also had the ceviche app it lacked spice but it was fresh. The Crab Brie soup was good, but i could only take a few bites till the cheese was overwhelming. For an entree I had the crab cake salad, which was very good but I had already filled up on bread and apps that i only ate the crab cakes off it. We were a little nervous that we were under dressed coming right out of Great America Fright Fest but they welcomed us into a booth with no wait on a Saturday night at about 8pm. Another Fabulous evening! The food is incredible...We had the blackened salmon with mango salsa,grilled salmon with Louisiana smashed potatoes,Carpaccio, Ahi Tuna, a perfectly cooked steak, artichoke dip, white fish stuffed with crab cake dressing in a mildly flavored tomato based shrimp sauce...Fabulous Pinot Grigio and Chilean Pinot noir....Teri is a phenomenal waitress and within the past 2 years and numerous visits we always ask for the same round table and always get Teri as our waitress...The music from the live band had us dancing and singing in our seats and nobody cares! Cannot say enough wonderful things about this place...even the other patrons are enjoying themselves!...Mom was disappointed they took the salmon baked in paper off the menu but her margarita fixed that! First visit for my birthday. Nice ambience; dining room with booths and tables with white linen; great bar area; "wine room" which can be used for parties of 10-20. We arrived in the afternoon and had a lovely lunch. My sister ordered the Tomahawk pork chop, which she said was the best pork chop she has ever had! I had the filet, and it was excellent! Nice service as well from our waiter. We w ill definitely be going back! It's nice to have a white tablecloth restaurant in the area - don't let the strip mall location put you off. Steven's is my new favorite! It was only our second time but I love it! I love a place to enjoy cocktails and dinner at the bar without feeling like I'm eating bar food. The food was amazing, gotta have the crab avocado tower app, it's perfectly spot on and oh so fresh :) the staff are friendly and the woman behind the bar knows what she's talking about (I took some of her suggestions, way to upsell!!!). I even took home some dessert for breakfast tomorrow. The hubs had the filet and it was perfect; nice seasoning and char. I had the seabass and it was delicious, the spinach and broth that was served with it were the perfect accompaniments. Service is okay, I wish the servers would be kinder for a steakhouse, food is great. Waitstaff won't know much on the menu. It would be nice to have a morning meeting and have the servers try the food, know the dishes to recommend to their patrons... I prefer the lunch menu since they are the same as the dinner menu but saves you money. They're a steakhouse so definitely keep up with their steaks but they have really good seafood options, chicken and the desserts are homemade...every morning in the kitchen and they are seriously the best. read more

Nice place. Nice restaurant area and really cool bar with nice beer, drink and wine selections. The food. The starters, salad and soup we had were not that good. The crab tower is a grat idea and to me as the right ingredients but it doesn't really have any flavor -- boring. The ceasar salad tasted like it had blue cheese dressing so heres the possibilities. 1. It did, 2. the blue cheeese and ceaser dressing got mixed together, 3. something in the salad was not fresh like the cheese. Soup of the day was ok but like the crab tower not very flavorful. The steaks saved this from being a one star rating and a full bash. the steaks were good although one of them was a little over done from the ordered medium rare. the steak fries has a side, don't like, I don't want coated seasoned fries with my nice streak, just give me some nice fried potatoes please. In summary if you go enjoy the nice drink, and a nice steak, save your money on the apps and salads. read more

The very rude Manager named Brad ruined our dining experience. I have been here a few times before and had great food and service until yesterday. I came in with 6 other people who have not been there before. We came in for a late lunch and we had enjoyed the food from appetizer to dessert, my colleagues were impressed up until the manager had rudely asked us to leave because they have a reservation for the table we were occupying in 35 minutes. I told him that we will leave before then and then he said we need to leave in 10 minutes. Mind you the place was empty except for 2 tables. Definitely would not be back and my colleagues who were impressed early on was dismayed and turned off by the rude manager. read more

A women's group I belong to had our holiday dinner at Stevens last week during the snowstorm. Their sidewalk was clean and salted and that was an indication of the attention to detail we received once inside. A special menu of choices was printed and placed at each setting for us and the service was consistent and efficient. The food was spectacular and abundant. We ate in a private room which was tastefully decorated for Christmas. Most had the tilapia, which was just delicious. I highly recommend Stevens for 2 or for 25. read more

I have been here several times and I truly love this place. I am picky with service and it is extremely difficult to find a restaurant that I return to and Stevens does not disappoint. From the moment I walk in and get greeted by the personable and endearing hostess to the amazing and attentive waitstaff, this establishment is addictive. The food is always fresh and scrumptious. Coming from out of town to visit family for Thanksgiving, we had the great pleasure to have dinner at Stevens in Gurnee. What a fantastic meal we had, wonderful friendly service and terrific atmosphere. The bone in rib eye I had was enormous and reasonably priced from our standpoint. The Crab and Brie soup was too die for as was the hazelnut crusted snapper. The place was busy and festive and clearly a local favorite. Obviously we were happy to find such a gem in this area and certainly we didn't need to go into Chicago for a meal like this. read more

I understand that typically a 1-star review is extreme and not helpful, but this is one of the few places that I feel truly deserves it. I have posted other reviews on Yelp and other sites, and I've only left one other review that wasn't super positive. Food: I was glad to see bread on the table and the drinks were fine; nothing special but not bad either. For dinner, I got salmon and double baked potato. The salmon was not horrible, but I could only eat half of it because it was pretty dry. The double baked potato was really gross, with congealed cheese on top of it. It makes me nauseated just thinking about it now. My husband got a strip steak (medium) and asparagus. The steak was cooked correctly, but the cut was tough and grisly. My husband and I only ate half of our $90 meal, because it was just bad. Atmosphere: The atmosphere basically looks like they are trying to be upscale, but the attention to detail is missing. The ladies bathroom has some touches that would be nice, like lotion and decorations. However, those are overshadowed by the fact that the bathroom walls are dirty and the paintings on the walls are all slanted. Service: Service was slow, even though the place wasn't overly crowded. The waiter was polite and nice, but it took about 10 minutes to get anyone to come over to our table in the beginning, and 7 minutes for any other service that we needed (including getting our check and taking our finished plates). For a place that did not have very many people at the time that we were there, we did not have much interaction with our waiter. Conclusion: Like too many restaurants in the suburbs, Steven's falls short in basically all categories. If you're looking for a good steak (and overall meal) in the Gurnee area, I highly recommend "The Tavern" in Libertyville, which is about 15 mins south of Stevens'. Being new to Steven's I find the atmosphere warm & inviting! Everyone from the waitstaff to the manager treat everyone with the utmost respect and courtesy. It's hard to believe that anyone would rate this place less than 5 stars. The quality and quantity of the food & services far exceed that of any of the other restaurants I've been to in the area. I was there this past Tuesday night and found the bartender warm & inviting to everyone there and feel that anyone that could refer to her in a negative manner should take a closer look at their own personality. The waitress came to our table & said someone noticed that we brought our Sailor (just graduated boot camp that morning) & wants to pay your whole tab. Our son just graduated from Navy Boot Camp on Wednesday. Last night was his 25th birthday and today is our 28th wedding anniversary. We wanted to go out to a very nice dinner to celebrate all the events. When I made the reservation, I told them about all of thes as oftentimes a restaurant will acknowledge the visit to their restaurant as special. Our dissatisfaction started when we arrived. We were greeted by the hostess and she acknowledged the birthday but did not say anything about the anniversary or his graduation. The coat room attendant had a glass of water on the door sill that made it difficult and awkward passing the coats over, for fear of knocking over the glass. The menu our son received said happy birthday on it. That was the ONLY acknowledgement of the events for which we came to the restaurant. Dinner was ok, not great as it should have been at a restaurant that received this many good reviews. The scallop appetizer was flavorless and the scallops were quite small. My husband's lamb had two different kinds of sauces on it that was not complimentary and actually distracted from the flavor of the meat. The steaks my son and I ordered were actually very good and cooked perfectly. When my husband mentioned the situation with the lamb, the waitress simply offered to bring a bowl of ice cream to make up for it. Hmmmm.... The waitress lacked personality and seemed to be doing her job by following some guide book rather than acting as a human being interacting with us. When we were done, I asked for my left over dessert to be boxed. The busboy took it, presumably to box it up for us to take. We paid the bill and waited for another five minutes and they still did not bring back the dessert. We just left, having to deal with the same situation at the coat room with the glass of water, only this time there was a tip basket that caused the same issue. We noticed the guests behind us actually knocked over the tip basket as they were retrieving their coats. The ambiance in the restaurant felt forced. The band was doing mike tests while we ate. When we have been to a nice restaurant, whether it is in areas in or around San Francisco, Los Angeles, or other major metropolitan cities, we have had much better experiences. We were disappointed that no mention was made of our son's birthday or (although he was in uniform) of his service or accomplishment of graduation. One would think that at a restaurant that is as close to the Naval Base Great Lakes, that something would be said knowing the work these young men have to go through to become a Sailor. Nada. This is a nice find for the area. I've only been there once for dinner and that was back in February. I can't speak to the 'romantic ambiance' since I didn't go there with a romantic date, but then I think anyplace can be romantic if you're with the right person. Service was crisp, the fried calamari and steaks were great and the grilled asparagus was delicious. We shared a couple of desserts and those were fantastic. In fact, all the desserts coming out of the kitchen looked outstanding. I'm a bit picky when it comes to steak and hate ordering because what one cook calls medium, another calls medium rare. So I was pleasantly surprised when my steak was perfectly done, very rare pink inside and not red / undercooked. If you're looking for a white cloth dining experience and don't want to travel into the city, I highly recommend it. read more

With all the chain restaurants in Gurnee, this is my "default" restaurant when I want someplace original and classy. I have had an excellent filet with Bearnaise sauce, Itailian Sausage and Peppers, and Pot Roast. All excellent. We also a year or so back rented the side room for my wifes 40th birthday and they offered excellent service buffet style. The pricing is reasonable for the most part, the only problem is if I am going to pay $40 for a steak I may want to drive to Mortons instead....So Stevens needs to watch the price point. Steven's is a real gem! We'd been talking about going there for years and finally made it there about 5 mos. ago. My husband and I are steak eaters and this is the place for steak and so much more! We've eaten there a number of times since and it just keeps getting better. Warm bread, yummy appetizers, wonderful crab bisque soup, great service and ambiance.
