As we were looking around have been in the store for about 15 minutes he was completely ignored. A gentlemen walks in and gets an immediate "hey how are ya" - fine I let it go. He tries on some clothes and at no point did he ever get a "hey can I help you find anything" or similar... instead we both were given dirty looks by a young gentleman on the floor and older woman at the register. We get to the register and carried out our purchase (No greeting until this point).. He's never felt immediate regret from purchasing clothing from a store until this experience. Giving the benefit of the doubt that hopefully this wasn't racial but please treat paying customers better..

They also have many other items needed to enjoy when out on the east end. My good friend purchased a wetsuit in September to extend his swimming days when the weather turned colder. So he could swim in the bay or pool though chilly out! Not a surfer... a lawyer who loves to keep the swimming season going longer. Hahha. Matt, Eric and Chris were super helpful associates. Checking sizes, products via phone, checking stock in their affiliate stores and holding an item while driving over. It's especially important to get a wetsuit right size wise or water seeps in and its too cold for that. He loved the suit. Once he came over thinking the rear zipper broken... he couldn't reach the zipper tag or get out of it! I checked and it was inside out!! hahaha... Never put a wetsuit on inside out especially if you live alone.. could be trapped in your wetsuit. hahahaha three weeks later there was also a small tear ... and the manufacturer offered to repair via mail.. but so did Flying Point saving time and trips to the post office. Flying Point was great at getting the repair in and done efficiently. When I went to pick it up, just had to give my friends name and they went to the holding room and brought it right out. Its a good example of why a good local shop is really needed... when sizes vary significantly on items and brands. Shopping is so much more than price and mail service... Online retailers could never offer anything close to this great customer service and small town enjoyable experience.

I had the pleasure of visiting J. McLaughlin this past weekend. I had never gone into one of their…read morestores before, but I decided to check it out when I was out in Southampton. I was very happy that I did. The clothing is traditional preppy style with a bid of a hipster edge. I was quite pleased with the quality of the shirts and the "go to hell" shorts. I purchased three of the former and two of the latter. One of the aspects of this store that was really excellent was the assistance rendered by Norman. Norman is a courtly and friendly gentleman of the old school. He is helpful, has excellent taste and if you ask his opinion, he will be honest. He was quite simply one of the finest sales associates that I have come across in recent memory. He made shopping an absolute pleasure. Norman also provided excellent customer service by tracking down two items that he did not have in stock for me at other stores and arranging for prompt shipment of the clothing. Many sales clerks would simply not even try, Norman went above and beyond. J. McLaughlin has nice casual clothing and is lucky to have such an excellent sales associate in Norman. My experience with Norman will make me a regular visitor to J. McLaughlin!

While heading east if on Montauk Hwy 27a.. which is usually the main route, unless driving 27 further to Southampton to save time..... drop down earlier and south to this tiny village. Inside Double Rainbow.. are the best ice cream cones. I've been to the supposed best gelato (in Southampton)... not.... lol... haha - even if made on premises.. etc... There is great ice cream in Riverhead and the North Fork..... but this... is really super yelper level 5 star stuff.. It really is. Small cone, soft, not a mans, or kids chocolaty nutty type Magic Fountain good.. more of a well.. More of a perfect.... mild ginger with small ginger pieces... or sea salted carmel vanilla type perfect.... those are the one's I couldn't resist....... think minty mudslide.. lemon poppy etc.. They are just bad in here... you see toys and gifts and then this row of great ice cream with cool west coast flavors.. and at the register... dark chocolate covered pretzels... turtles with sea salt, dark chocolate caramel, just terrible!! lol.... I'm getting a bike rack on my car this week.
