I just moved to the area and bought a house. I was having issues with my garage door so, as recommended by a friend, I called Steve's. Before automatically scheduling a service call, the person I spoke to tried to walk me through my issue on the phone to help me fix it myself if possible and save me a service fee which I thought was great. I was unable to fix it so a service call was scheduled for later that same day. The person arrived and was very friendly and helpful. It ended up being a very simple fix so he went ahead and fully serviced my door to make sure everything was tuned up and running smoothly to make the most of the service call. I never once felt I was getting taken for financially. If anything, the company went above and beyond to save me money. I would highly recommend them and use them again. read more

I called Steve's Overhead Door yesterday to tell them the problems with my garage door. "My garage door won't go up or down, but the motor is still making a noise. It's not the noise it usually makes, though. It's a different noise." And you know what they said? No, not "you obviously have no idea what you're talking about because that makes no sense." They said, "Sounds like you need a new gear and sprocket!" WHAT?! How did they know that from my vague description? Because they're awesome, that's why! They told me they'd be here the next day and gave me a 30 window. The repair many came within the window and had my garage door fixed within an hour. I was so impressed! The service fees ($75) seemed a bit high compared to the $40 replacement part, but the good service made it worth it. Also, they were already planning on being in the Crawfordsville for another appointment, so they let the other customer and I split the $50 travel fee. They didn't have to do that, but they did! Excellent! I called at 6am because my garage door wouldn't open. I got the after hours answering service and she said she would have someone call me back. They called back within 5 mins and said they had an opening at 8am and that wouldn't require an after hours fee. Showed up and replaced a broken spring and oiled up so it's running smoothly. We needed a new garage door opener on short notice. We were out of town, but needed to get the process started. We called Steve's, and they put us on the installation schedule for the coming Monday, even though we hadn't completed the official transaction. We went by their shop on Friday to complete the transaction. They had most of the paperwork filled out and ready for us! They had exactly what we wanted. Our install was scheduled for 2:00 on Monday. We got a call mid-morning, and they had an earlier appointment, which worked great, and freed up our afternoon. The installer was knowledgeable, polite and thorough. Do not hire Steve Overhead Doors for your garage needs in Attica they put you off for weeks to come to save you $$ right. They say there drive to you is 150$$ or more and would split this up with othere customers in Attica right? What business offers this?? The problem is they don't get much or ANY business in Attica hardly. Dont let these guys give you the run around go somewhere else. Also i let them know i was disabled in wheelchair and couldnt get in and out of my garage. Long story short they didnt care to hear this, only if i could pay there service chg and bill. read more

So I was in my house one Sunday and heard what I thought was a gun shot, when I investigated I found the spring on my garage door was broken. The place I had install the door was out of Indianapolis and I called them for emergency repair but they said they don't do weekends especially that far out of town. I knew it was a mistake to use an out of town business even though I thought it was cheaper. I quickly searched the Internet for a company that does emergency work on garage doors. I found Steve's and called, to my surprise who should pick up but, STEVE!!! He said he was catching up on paper work. He listened to my issue and quoted me a price. His emergency price was lower than the place I called in Indy's non-emergency price. The guy from Steve's was at my house in less than 40 minutes and done with the job fast, INDY CAR fast!!!. I will be keeping Steve in mind for my next door or any other door repairs I might need. Fast, friendly, fair, and local is what we need more of!!! read more

Our garage door came down on our car as we were entering the garage. Our car was stuck and there was damage to the guide rails and hinges. The track was going to have to be reattached to the wall. This happened at 4:00 in the afternoon. We called the person that had last worked on the door. He basically said I'm too busy(it was his faulty work that led to this problem) We found Steve's Overhead Door Co. in Lafayette and called them. They were very polite and said they would do everything possible to try and get to us. We were 35 miles away. They asked for pictures so they had some idea what they needed to bring. Steve's Company was at our house by 6:00. John and Matt freed our car and repaired the door by 7:30. These guys were knowledgeable and skilled. If you need a garage door fixed, they are ok. For anything else, see another company. I had them install an automatic gate opener, but it took them four calls (and three months) to make it work. I made the mistake of paying for the project before the opener was fully installed. Even then, the sales person would not listen to what we needed. The installers were good, but I got the feeling they had been lectured to more than once from John, the sales person. He was rude, inexperienced, and hung up on me after I called for the sixth time (I was obviously not his concern). Save a headache, and call Mulhaupt's. read more

2-6-15 - Update: When I posted my review of Steve's Overhead Door Company, it was immediately after the repair. Now that there has been some time and other things have happened, I can add to my review of my experiences. It has been two months since my garage door repair was completed. The door has been lifting slowly. One of the lights that was repaired no longer works. I was preparing to call to have these things looked at, but with working long hours and being a busy single parent, it just hadn't happened yet. This past weekend, a lock on the door engaged and the door would not open. I called Steve's and said they could send someone out or they could send someone during the week. I asked for help that night as my car was inside the garage. When the repair person called me, I was informed of some disappointing information. First, they do not cover any work under warranty on the weekend. Previous repairs, are not covered if the break occurs on the weekend regardless if your car is trapped in your garage, it is a Friday or Saturday or any other reason, (even if you had the repair completed the day before!). In my case, it was a dangerous situation as a large storm was coming in on Sunday. and next, he informed me that the fee would be $110 even if the company eventually decided the repair was covered by the warranty. I feel strongly there are three issues here, first, it is bad customer service to not cover previous work on the weekend, it is disloyal to loyal customers who return to your business to not offer some type of deal when they are returning for your business repeatedly, and third, charging $110, as an after-hours fee to get help on the weekend is exorbitant. First, I do not understand how a company can tell you they cover their work for a year, but if it breaks on certain days of the week, the warranty doesn't apply. If the repair was paid for by the customer in good faith failed in any way, a company's first reply should be that they will review the cause and determine if it is covered by the warranty, regardless of the day of the week the problem occurs. Second, I lose respect for companies that do not value returning customers. There is something to be said for customers to return to your business again and again and share their positive experiences with others. I hoped to be treated a little better when I called for service during my second interaction with this company. Although everyone is friendly, the prices, policies, and procedures are unreasonable. Even the repair man felt awful about the fee and the warranty coverage policy. Third, I agree, businesses need to make a profit, but $110, is really ridiculous. I had my garage door repaired by this company and I trust they will stand behind their work and be fair in their pricing. People are trapped in these situations and this presents a way to help people, or to harm them. So what do I mean by stand behind their work and fairness in pricing? As a single mother who just paid nearly two hundred dollars to fix the door spring and cables just two months ago (right before Christmas), a $110 is an exceptionally high fee to charge. How high is this fee? Even a plumber who must hold a license or an electrician who is putting their life in danger only charge between $60-$80 and many do not charge an after hours fee. Further, an $110 fee cannot be afforded, by most mothers and students who work part-time jobs. In today's economy, many workers work several part time jobs. For an hourly worker, $110 is one week's pay at minimum wage before taxes...and it took, Justin only 20 minutes to drive to my house and disengage the door and spray some lubricant on the cables (10 minutes on the door and paperwork)....and the light still does not work. But.... I did receive the bill in the mail for $110.00. 12-8-14- My garage door broke one Sunday. It would raise about a foot and then slam closed when I tried to close it. I was really worried. I called Steve's and my call was immediately answered. I was offered immediate service on the same day or any day of my choice. As it was the weekend and my car was not stuck in the garage and the door was not stuck open, I told them I could be at home between 12:30-2:30pm on Monday or anytime in the late morning and early afternoon on Tuesday. The technician called me first thing Monday morning. They had no problem coming at 12:30. The technician was on time, polite and gave me an estimate. He began working on it right away. He took the reels, the wire and the spring off. He cut a new spring and new wire. He fixed the garage door spring, replaced the wire that lifts the door, replaced the two light sockets and bulbs on the door open motor, and he adjusted the antenna for better remote reception. Then he explained everything he did. He also replaced the wire with a better quality wire that he stated will last much longer. He did all of this in 45 minutes. The price was ok, the service was great. read more

They worked with our budget and gave us tips on how to make the doors really last. I had a lot of questions in the store, since I had never even thought about garage doors before, and I never once felt rushed in the store.
