(Note: This is not the "Albany-Colonie" Chamber of Commerce; this is the "Colonie" Chamber of Commerce. As far as I know, they are not related.) For a membership fee of $275 a year for a small biz (less than 11 employees), the two main benefits you get are group health insurance rates, and emailed invitations to mixers and networking events. There's many other benefits too -- leads group, listing in the directory, member-to-member discounts, etc. I've been a member for over a year. They seem well organized and deliver on what they promise. Catherine, the health insurance contact, makes a point of posting the latest CDPHP and Empire New York rates/information on the website as soon as they become available. She's also quick to answer your questions, which is good, considering how confusing the whole health insurance thing has become. (I don't know if they are still doing it, but they used to do an Associate membership, where once you purchased your full membership, you could invite another business to join as your associate for $100. If they're still doing this, two or more friends with businesses can pool resources and bring the membership costs way down.)

It's not fully high-tech yet, as a lot of the older records are still in large, ornate, books. But those records are very well organized, as we found out a few years ago when needing to obtain some family records. The staff are quite friendly and helpful. They offer services for seniors such as free photocopying. Be sure to drive by on December nights to check out the Christmas tree in the front of the building.

Many of the graves and mausoleums are the final resting places for the founding fathers of the city of Saratoga, and you'll see a lot of Civil War gravesites as well. There is a tremendous sense of history as you drive in past the large granite mausoleums and statuary in tribute to the soldiers, and work your way down the winding roadways towards the newer section of the cemetery. They keep this place in beautiful shape with well-trimmed grass, hedges, and flowers throughout. This is always my last stop when I'm in Saratoga Springs, and I spend a few minutes visiting with my Mom before boarding the plane to return to Tampa.

Truly beautiful in the fall, and parking was super easy right in front of the cemetery gate! The cemetery is next to an old church, and the headstones right up front are beautifully maintained... gleaming white with placards indicating the historical figures buried as well as the stone carvers who crafted the headstones. I learned a surprising amount about Vermont history just reading all of the placards throughout the cemetery. There are many family plots of some of Vermont's founding fathers and war heroes. We also enjoyed reading some of the old headstones for interesting quotes. There are many signs directing to Robert Frost's family site which is tucked in a back corner under a small tree. This place is definitely worth a visit.

It's located on a steep grassy slope at the rear of the playground complex next to the buildings and athletic field of Lansingburgh High School. The memorial playgrounds offers everything for the active family ---baseball, softball, football, and soccer fields, basketball courts, outdoor skating rink, hockey arena, a big playground, tennis courts, bike paths, and a 400 Meter Oval Track. We walked over from the baseball monument and it was a long challenging walk up the incline and around an endless chain-link fence. The monument is a huge granite obelisk at the top of a rolling slope near a bike trail. It might be easier to access the monument from the bike trail.... The view from and around the monument is gorgeous - a sweeping panorama of trees, valleys and green athletic fields. Sadly, the view around the monument is much better than the condition of the monument itself - we saw quite a lot of painted graffiti everywhere. The inscription on the obelisk reads: Thomas Adams Knickerbacker Helen Louise Knickerbacker Given in memory of his father and mother by John Knickerbacker There is also an engraved portrait of the two Knickerbackers. I unsuccessfully researched who exactly Thomas and Helen Knickerbacker were. I believe their son John (1866-1947)was a congressman,
