So I went here looking for a new place to get lunch. Based on the reviews here I thought it would be a new stop for me. My first impression was to turn around and walk out. It is not the cleanest place and things were haphazardly stored all around. I gulped and ordered a chicken cutlet wedge. I took leave and went back to work and opened the wrapped sandwich. The chicken was overdone and there was nothing special about it. I will look for other lunch spots moving forward. read more

Today I was starving and decided to hit up Stillwater Sandwich Shoppe. It's not my first time here, but I placed my order in advance and they didn't see it come through. No biggie though, they quickly made my order while I waited. The owner and his wife were super friendly, as always. I had a chicken cutlet with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, black pepper, and mayo on a wedge, an Italian combo on a roll, and an order of fries. Everything was good. The chicken cutlet was huge! It could have used a bit more seasoning, but it was still fried beautifully and crispy, and the bacon was perfect too. The place is pretty spacious inside, and it wasn't busy. There was a family inside enjoying a late lunch, which made the atmosphere cozy and pleasant. I will definitely be back. The owners were very nice to us and suggested we get the chicken cutlet sandwich, which is huge. Big enough for two meals if you get the sub. The chicken could have been more juicy though, it seemed overcooked or not as fresh as other delis. read more

We had the absolute pleasure of starting last weekend with a fabulous breakfast at Stillwater Sandwich Shoppe! We were out on errands, craved a quick breakfast sandwich and ended up choosing to stay in the warm and friendly deli to enjoy the delicious BEC there, among the other patrons and the kind owners. Service was quick, the food delicious, the conversations around us interesting, relaxed and homey. This was our third time stopping by, having enjoyed in the past picking up a wide array of sandwiches, as well as stopping in one hot summer day for cold drinks. Hard to give an accurate review during the covid pandemic but I would definitely come back for another try. Obviously the place was empty and was open for take out only. We should have called ahead I suppose because it took 30 minutes to make a chicken cutlet sandwich and onion rings. Onion rings looked/tasted like frozen but the portion size was pretty good. The sandwich is what you go here for. I got the chicken cutlet sandwich with ranch and bacon on a wedge and it was too big to eat. They are very generous when it comes to the amount of meat they put on the sandwich; i had to take a cutlet off to close it. We've been to this sandwich shop 2 years in a row now, and have been amazed at the sandwich sizes and prices! This time I got a chicken salad wrap, and my husband got an Italian. Both sandwiches were huge and delicious, and we couldn't finish them in one sitting. The service is friendly and very helpful. It's not a fancy place, but it definitely worked for us! Walked into the small little deli. The food was absolutely amazing we are visiting from Las Vegas Nevada and travel often. We saw that they had a good review. I would definitely stop in and the sweet owners suggested A sandwich style and that's what I got my husband got a turkey cheese sandwich that was absolutely delicious both sandwiches were amazing. The brownies were absolutely amazing we took three home with us back to Las Vegas because they were so good. No joke, this was the best sandwich I've had in years. I was scoping out the Stamford area considering moving there, and had looked up sandwich options. I saw this sandwich shop listed, a little out of the way, and decided to drive out before an apartment showing. The pictures had looked great, the reviews were raving, and I know that great things often come in simple packages, but I was still a little skeptical when I walked in. It's a super simple, no-nonsense deli with a small counter. You order from a short menu or you make a custom sandwich. I was craving a really good italian sandwich, so I ordered that. I said to include whatever normally came on it, which was lettuce, tomato, and mayo, and to add hot peppers (these turned out to be pickled jalapeños and were fantastic). When I saw the sandwich I thought, well this looks fine. But it was DIVINE. Fresh, high quality ingredients in the right proportions go a long way, and these were perfect. I'm already planning my next visit. read more

I stopped by on break and man is this place a gem. Greeted with smiles and the man behind the counter is awesome super genuine people. Went to the Stillwater Sandwich Shoppe upon the recommendation of a friend. Had an amazing chicken cutlet wedge with American cheese, mayo & lettuce (see attached pic) for about $7. Hands down one of the best delis/eateries in Stamford. Prices are low especially in comparison to the usually over-priced crappy Stamford eateries/restaurants/delis. Place is brightly lit, clean & the staff is great. They'll make your sandwich/wedge "to order". I now have the Stillwater Sandwich Shoppe as a regular of my places to eat. read more

Came for the solid ratings. No clue where those came from. Waited over 30 minutes for a chicken cutlet wedge when I was one of two people in the store. Cheese fries were literally just soggy fries microwaved with a slice of American cheese. Absolutely mindblown. With a lot of solid deli's around, I wouldn't even consider coming back. Easy to miss place a little north of I95, it was the only place open at 5 AM not named Dunkin Donuts. I wasn't expecting too much with the selection of places that was open at the time, but they did not disappoint. The owners are the sweetest couple and served an amazing grilled chicken and chicken cutlet sandwich. Chicken was juicy and well marinated, roll was fresh, and they were quick with my order. Don't let the rough exterior fool you because this place is soooo good! I've only had the sandwiches here and the wedges are large and filled with so much! The staff here is so hardworking and you can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do. They bring you the food if you eat in the store and stop by to ask if everything is ok. They also have a wide selection of chips and drinks. I had the Italian combo and the house made balsamic vinaigrette is amazing. My husband tried to steal my sandwich and I wouldn't let him! Great place with amazing value for the cost! Stillwater Sandwich Shoppe is not fancy but very welcoming and tasty. We had lunch there and were so delighted we had to come back for breakfast sandwiches the next day. Highly recommend the roast beef and chicken cutlet but I'm sure everything is good. The bacon, egg, and cheese on white bread was good as well. The only downside was that it was very lightly toasted, almost not toasted at all, and it used bacon pieces instead of strips. Overall, this is an excellent local deli with quality food, generous portions, and a welcoming feel. I would definitely recommend stopping by, and I will absolutely be back.

When I picked up the food, the kid at the counter was friendly and helped bring my order to the car. Now, I have to lay out the facts. This was the first time I've ordered food from A&S. I called to place my order based on the catering menu posted on their website. I wanted to order two stuffed breads, a panzanella salad and chicken scarp. Note that the website indicates, "Pricing of all of our items is subject to change [due] to constant fluctuations in costs..." The guy who took my order informed me that they no longer do stuffed breads. "Okay," I said and ordered a vegetable crudite platter on the fly since I wasn't anticipating that. "Oh yeah," the guy said, it is also $45 (not $30 that it says on the website). Begrudgingly, I said that's fine, as it was for a family Sunday afternoon dinner. Next, I ordered the panzanella salad. "We don't make that anymore." The guy informed me. I sighed and said, "Alright, how about a [small bowl] Caesar salad?" The menu listed it as $25 on the website. Lastly, I ordered the main event, the Chicken Scarpariello. Thankfully, they still made this and the half tray was still $60, like the website said. Fast forward to me picking up the food on Sunday. The kid at the counter shows me all of the items, Caesar salad w/ Caesar dressing, vegetable crudite with blue cheese dip and chicken scarp. "That'll be $148.60," he said. "Would you like a receipt?" YES. It didn't sit right with me how much everything cost (for 6 adults, mind you). I asked my wife to read me the receipt when I drove off. Included was a $4.73 'non-cash adj.' which I assume was me using my credit card (on a $140 ORDER). When I opened the food up, I really got angry. My $30 Caesar salad had zero croutons. It was solely lettuce and parmigiano cheese. Essentially, it was likely a 3-head bag of lettuce with cheese and dressing, for $30. Something I could have done myself for about $7 tops. Next, my $45 vegetable crudite platter had broccoli, red & yellow peppers, celery and cucumber with blue cheese. There was no spinach/artichoke dip as indicated on the website. Neatly presented, but it was $45 for veggies (and one, not two dips). Last, the menu indicates the chicken scarp is served over rice. When I opened the tray; SURPRISE, no rice. The food was tasty (specifically the chicken). But for what I paid (for mostly vegetables), I am so disgusted. Not only with A&S, but myself for agreeing to purchase the food in the first place. I have such disdain for this experience, I'm likely not going back. The guy taking the order admitted the website needed to be updated. But again, mostly I'm pissed at myself because I paid a lot for what I got in kind. The cherry on top was the line item on my receipt for using a credit card. I get that credit card companies charge fees, but it's 2023 and if you're going to nickel and dime someone for using a credit card, do it if it's under $10, not on a $140 order. Lesson learned. The problem with running a business this way, is you only can pull that ruse once, otherwise it's shame on me.
