As a proud native of the North Mississippi Hill Country region, I think "All Kinds of Character" is also a great way to describe the larger region. The University of Mississippi, for instance, is home to the following: - The Center for the Study of Southern Culture - The Ole Miss Blues Archive, one of the largest collections of blues recordings, publications, and memorabilia in the world - Mississippi Freedom Trail Markers - The Jackson Heart Study, the largest, longitudinal study of cardiovascular disease in Black Americans; a partnership between the NIH, Tougaloo College, Jackson State University, the Mississippi State Department of Health, and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (in Jackson) - Rowan Oak, William Faulkner's former home - The university has also played a major role in sustaining the state's strong arts and sports traditions, helping Mississippi produce the most writers per capita, the most Grammy winners per capita, and the most NFL Hall of Famers per capita. This is the overflow-overflow lot for Ole Miss football parking. We ended up here when all the…read moreother lots for RVs were full. We ended up being the only ones there, except for a few cars at gametime and right before and after. So not good if you want to party, but great if you want to sleep. We did the Grove and Square and hung out in one of the Ole Miss Rv lots as well, so we pretty much got the full experience anyway. This is a good place to park if you want to avoid the insanity of, well, pretty much every other place in town.

Their chef worked at BBB and City Grocery. You may be thinking, well he works at a fraternity now,…read moreso he can't be that good. Well that's where you'd be wrong. I'm not a member of this organization but have been invited to eat there on occasion and it is one of the best places to get a meal on campus. Even though they mass produce meals for their members, the food always tastes restaurant fresh compared to the public school cafeteria meals at other houses on campus.

I love LMH. I think it's just as beautiful as the central Oxford colleges, but more subtle. It's…read moregot some lovely gardens and has a real secluded, traditional feel to it. Despite having some more modern buildings than some of the older colleges, it's got a real timeless, olde worlde atmosphere, and you can lose yourself in the gardens. The entrance is down a nice residential street with gorgeous old houses, and it backs out onto the University Parks, so can be seen as you drift past on a punt. It's not really geared up for tourists, but if you attend an event here, it's definitely worth having a wander.

Lady Margaret Hall (or LMH as its referred to in the city) is located slightly further out of town…read more On approaching the college, it looks quite foreboding, but it is quite nice inside, though perhaps not worth the extra effort of the trip unless you are trying to see them all! The college was originally set up to accept women only, but is now co-educational.
