For those of you who don't know, Sandmann's has a free city tour (where offered) that lasts about 3 hours. However, if you are then interested in other tours (Alternative, Old Town, etc.) you have to pay for them. Here, this is not the case, the company offers three different tours (City Tour, Old Town, and Gamla Stan (I think)). All of them work on a free (tips only) basis. I spent literally a whole day going on all three tours they offer... and there is enough time to grab a quick bite in between and head to the next one. The guides I experienced the city with were Ellen and Ben; both of them were awesome! They were informative, high energy, and friendly. Tours were a good combination of seeing lots of stuff, as well as hearing detailed, but not boringly so, explanation of what we are looking at, the story behind it, and how it related to the city. Tour length of about 90 minutes was actually quite nice, especially when you consider that you can take all three of their tours for free. As for start locations, they are both easy to get to by the T-Bana. The brochure details where the first and third tour meets, but more detail of the second tour would be nice. Guides are holding signs, but no the much more visible umbrellas.

The stops were easy to find and convenient to where we wanted to go, the map was pretty decent for a tour-bus map, and the commentary (headphones provided) was informative and interesting. Red Sightseeing also offers a canal and river tour, which was nice, quiet, and got us to some rarely seen areas of the city with very interesting architecture and lovely green space. The staff was helpful, courteous, and understanding when we made a scheduling/location error. All in all, this was an excellent, pleasant, and very affordable way to see much of Stockholm, to understand how important the waterways are to the city, and to get where we wanted to go. Do note that there are a few different red-colored hop-on hop-off buses and boats, so make sure you get the correct line.

You're provided with a map and a headphone. Easy enough! Where you get off from the bus, there's another ticket counter to purchase your ticket where you get on the boat, and we could have done all that, where we can also use the toilet (not in the same building), but it was around the corner, half a block from getting off the bus. We got off the boat after our tour, so we went back to where we got off from the bus, and the guy who sold us the ticket (saw us standing there!) and told us it's another half a block THAT WAY! So we missed the 1st Red bus! Yes, it had the Red Flag mark! Otherwise, we had fun with this boat tour!

After that, they never responded to me further queries, as i need to specify frame size, pedals (needed them), etc. My wife has also been trying to rent a bike from them for me. She's emailed a few times herself, again with no response. When we showed up to the rental place, the guy simply said there were too busy to respond to emails. They had a few road bikes hanging unused. Too much demand leads them to basically not caring. Too bad, really wanted to rent a road bike, and was ready to pay whatever to enjoy cycling in Stockholm. The cycling infrastructure is unbelievable! Ended up using CityBikes for short rides, but they are no comparison to a road bike...

A hair longer than two hours in a large figure eight around the city took us out and back and then out and back, under dozens of bridges. All the while, a narrator (through wired earphones) pointing out the history of the city, the significance of the bridges and in the breaks, some classical music. Important sights along the way were also part of the narration. The barge we were on was not at all crowded so we did not have to rub elbows with strangers. There is a small concession stand that thankfully had beer and wine (one type of each). There is also a single restroom that I did not need. When riding the bikes, the seat moves and needs continual adjustment. Although not the bike's fault, the trail is crowded with joggers, strollers, lovers, and walking groups making navigation tricky. Finding Sjöcaféet is easy. While crossing the bridge, you can see paddle boats and kayaks for rent. Head over to that area and you will see a bank of bikes waiting to be rented. Although the building says Royal Djurgården Visitor Center, it's Sjöcaféet. After telling the friendly gal that I'm interested in renting a bike, she tells me it's $8/hour and there are various free maps and other info located at the desk. After paying, you receive a key to unlock the bike for riding and locking it when not riding. To store your stuff, all the bikes have front baskets. Because the trail is so crowded, you will not be able to enjoy the scenery, but rather making sure you don't run into someone.

Our three little girls ages 5,5 and 6 had a fabulous time playing and exploring this park. It has the following: -jungle gym with slides -sand pit with cute little diggers -swings -mini soccer area -bike riding lanes -hop scotch markings -picnic tables -a little fenced area for smaller children This park is one of the local ones in our area so is very easy to walk to. Parking is also not that rough if you do not live in the area. We visited on a chilly fall Sunday and there were lots of children there but not too many where you had to fight for space. Our girls had a lovely time and enjoyed a nice fika to warm up a bit at the local bageri.

We walked over to Skansen after the Vasa Museum. The weather was quite nice and sunny which was…read moreperfect to enjoy this outdoor museum. After entering we decided to walk the path up to the park instead of buying a ticket for the funicular. It took roughly 10 minutes on a slight incline. Skansen was huge and does take time to go from place to place. Initially we wandered from building to building and many were not staffed or only viewable from the outside. While it was interesting to read the posted signs it wasn't too interesting. At the Oktorp farmstead, we finally found the first staffed location and got to see and learn about dying of yarn. Here we also learned which buildings were staffed and from that point forward gave us a plan of how to tackle Skansen and made the visit much more enjoyable. We had a great conversation about politics in the People's House which was very appropriate and compared it against present day in both our countries. Many parallels. We learned more about typical farm life in the Skane Farmstead while stooping low inside the house and that led to the Delsbo Farmstead. Delsbo was quite the opposite as it was ornately decorated with detailed wall paintings paid for by the well to do family per the staff. I highly encourage anyone visiting to engage with the staff as they were very enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge of the period or activities that went on in that particular farmstead, building, church, etc. We skipped seeing all the animals they kept towards the back of Skansen as well as the aquarium. Overall spent over 2 hours here and likely could've spent more if more buildings were staffed and open. Glad the weather held throughout our visit.

Stockholm's Tunnelbana system is just as good as any of them. I bought a seven day pass and that meant I didn't need to be concerned about whether or not a one-stop trip was a good use of my money. I was on and off and on and off. The pass is valid on the trams and the buses too! Good signage and easy to operate though I only got lost once or twice. You need to know which is the last station on your line so you know you're headed in the right direction. Most of the stations have lifts or escalators. Some stations have staff. A few stations have indicators of the next train and how long you're going to need to wait for it. The trains are frequent enough and they are definitely clean. You can book guided tours, but you can also do a self-guided tour for free! I suggest googling self-guided tours on Google and finding a tour that sounds most interesting to you. You normally start at T-Central and work your way up and down the green, blue, and red lines. There is so much to see, I definitely recommend!! New York city subways could NEVER. These subways are unmatched, fun, and gorgeous! If you are exploring the subways yourself, I would give yourself 2 hours and buy the 75 minute ticket :)
