Whenever or whatever it is that brings me to the Hotel, I find myself drawn towards the Lobby Lounge. The grand chandeliers are always quite the sight to me. The Lobby Lounge is perfect for small and informal meetings, a simple workspace, or simply just for staring into space to relax and clear one's mind. On some occasions, there's actually either a live band or a piano player to fill the place with music. The service is on point, and you'll be able to enjoy a full bar list selection (in my case however, iced teas usually do). The saucer of peanuts that comes with your drink definitely isn't a bad thing either.

Had the unfortunate experience just recently…read more I was stuck in the Manila Hotel waiting for coding, after a conference. I figured no problem, since there was nothing to eat in the immediate area I figured ok, how often am I here anyways? I was ready to bite the bullet with the more expensive bill as it was a hotel, but figured at least I can look forward to a good meal. I was shown some hospitality by the manager and lead to my table, I checked the menu and true enough the price tags were a little crazy, but oh well. I was in the mood for adobo and fries, so I ordered those. It took awhile but finally it came. The fries was in a nice metal basket and was seasoned well, crunchy but fluffy on the inside. Pretty standard. The adobo came in two plates, one for the rice and the atsara (a side dish of pickled vegetables I believe) and then the pork and chicken adobo with egg and a lot of spring onion or such vegetable covering the top. The meat was admittedly soft and the sauce was nice and velvety, but that was all. The taste was very average, it was neither good nor bad, nothing noteworthy, and overall our home cooking would be better, so I was quite disappointed. The garlic rice was in between garlic rice and plain rice, it had hint of garlic but overall almost negligible. Real shame, it was on the edge of greatness, but could barely be saved by the adobo sauce. As the bill arrived, it reached quite an amount, but the server named Elle, asked if I was checked in as it would give me a much needed 20% discount, I thought for a second and realized a friend is checked in, maybe that would work? For sure Elle saw I was considering something but as she mentioned it had to be me, I did not insist and said no. After considering it again I call another waiter and inquire if it was my friend's room, he says: "Maybe sir, but how will she sign it?" after a second of thought he continues "Maybe you can just note her name and room number sir. Will ask." Ok worth asking and checking. Elle returns and says sorry sir I already had this cleared as I asked you if you were checked in. I responded, sorry I was not clear about it and figured my friend would work. She mentions but she must be here to sign, I responded that the other waiter gave me another option. Overall I reluctantly did not insist and just said, "Ok no problem, but please be clear about your questions next time, as it is such a waste." This is where she becomes very rude. She immediately says, "I did tell you." but in Filipino. I froze in place and looked at her, surprised that she had to have the last word and the tone she took was beyond disrespectful. Normally I have long patience for waiters as I realize it may have been a long day, perhaps they are tired maybe it is an off day. Who knows, I try to respect them and I am very courteous along with my generous tips, I always thought it was a give and take sort of relationship. But for Elle, she works in one of the most expensive and supposedly respected hotels in Manila, and she had this attitude. I'm sorry but I need to hold you to higher standards since you all have the audacity to charge me so much for your vaguely ok adobo (I wouldn't mind paying as much if it was actually drop dead delicious, but alas it was not). I called for her manager and complained, the same manager who sat me down unfortunately got an earful from me as her staff was quite rude, she offered a discount, but I declined saying I can afford the meal, but I expected better from you and your staff given that the Manila Hotel used to stand for quality, but now it is trash. And on top of that, don't think I did not notice the dead cockroach quietly sitting under another patron's seat my full meal. Jeez... Manila Hotel, what happened? I cringe at the idea of ever coming back and hope you all do better.

Wow. I'm giving this review 5 stars so it stays at the top and as many of you as possible won't…read morehave to experience what my girlfriend and I have. I don't know how I can say any of this more politely, but I am a firm believer that in an organization of such high status ladies and gentlemen should be the ones serving ladies and gentlemen. 1 - Our transaction left me feeling like my money had been deceitfully stolen by our waiter Mike. I verbatim asked if SC is gratuity/tip. Mike's answer was a confident no - so I asked for some change from a larger bill which resulted in two more bills way bigger than what customary tip should be. This left me and my girlfriend who's stomach upset by the meal in an awkward situation of really not wanting to ask for change again because of how long menial tasks took. Essentially I felt strong-armed into an what for me was an uncomfortable position. Sure I could have said something but I was brought to an uneasy place where I thought I was purchasing an upscale experience. (I only googled what SC was once I got home) 2- The pizza had a 4cm puddle of oil in the center - yuck. 3- I ordered a cocktail which was improperly made multiple times, so poorly I had to speak up. On the re-delivery it looked sloppy and tasted like what was done was the addition of water and a heavy citrus squeeze. It was a simple and classic drink that is standard for every bartender to know. I didn't ask for a mocktail or whatever made up drink that was. 4 - What upset me most was Mike sitting at our table without a reason or invitation, very close to my girlfriend. This was extremely inappropriate and left us feeling like boundaries were crossed and uncomfortable. I enjoy connecting with local staff of places while traveling, but in the proper time and place. This transaction was done very wrong. 5- Was the DJ faking it? He left for like a half hour and the playlist continued. I was half a room away and I have to say it was loud and aggressive music for the vibe of the crowd which were mostly a lively elderly bunch this particular evening. This is the first time I even wanted to leave a 1-Star review. Since I only leave 5-star reviews I will continue to do so here but with this as a warning. Rooftops are cool but there are others with better views and better service than what Mike delivers. Can someone tell him that his behavior seems to be misaligned with how the organization he represents presents their hospitality services? Dang. I didn't want to post a review while feeling upset so I slept on it. Unfortunately it was disrupted multiple times from unusual (for both my girlfriend and I) digestive issues at both ends of the tract if you know what I mean. As the great Robert Kiyosaki said 'if it's not an asset it's a liability'. This expense and experience has definitely been a liability .

I went here with friends and we got a booth upstairs. It wasn't too loud so I was able to get some studying done. I ordered an iced hazelnut latte and it was good! Maybe kind of pricey it was 160P. Didn't try the food but the cakes are 100 plus for a slice. Come here for the studying environment. It is very cute. I was here on a Friday night and it wasn't completely packed. Hopefully I can go here earlier in the day so I can really study all day here. It is open until 3am! My issue is that there is no wifi...only good thing is that less distractions but sometimes you just need some good wifi while studying. Excited to come back here and study even more :)

But what I love about this cafe is their booths for seating. If you are fond of sitting in the floor or lying down, then this place is for you! It's a great place to hang out with your friends, chill and it is also a great place for study. They have ample electric outlets which make them also a great place to work or charge your gadgets. One downside is that they don't have wifi, which is one of the things I consider for a perfect hangout place. But if you do want to really talk and hangout with your friends, this will be a good place for you.
