My meat on the stone... (some ppl always over exaggerated about their meat) Finally got a chance to try out this new spot in the heart of KTown at Lougheed Mall during its "Soft Opening" (Okay almost at the heart of KTown... I just love it when businesses say they are doing a soft opening.. ) This place is located beside the TD Bank on the corner of Austin and North Road, a few stairs up from the street level with a paid parkade down beside it or there are free mall parkings but I don't know if that's part of the restaurant. I believe there is also an elevator below you can take to the restaurant level. The restaurant has a simple yet modern layout and decor; host counter by the entrance, 2 dining areas separated by a simple wall partition, kitchen to the back, private individualized washrooms with a community wash station to the back left side. Called for a reservation but said first come first serve basis (maybe only reservations for a large group?). Walked in, a short wait and got seated behind the host counter (nooooo.. Ramsay steakhouse Deja Vu..). Anyway, here were the food I ordered; 1. Gam Ja Tang (pork bone soup). This is almost a must order soup for me whenever I go Korean'ing. It was hot, very flavourful with almost all the ingredients I like, the meat was tender and had that fresh taste (Wish there was a little bit more soup though). 2. Gye Lan Jjim (steamed egg). Very nice! Came nice hot and fluff as it should be. 3. Galbisal (Premium beef combo $70/person). The short rib was pretty fresh but I had better ones in term of tenderness. The veggies and corn cheese that came with the combo was a bit weak. The combo kimchi soup was a bit too sour to my liking. The side dishes and lettuce were decent and all were refillable (yes even the lettuce for wrapping your meat). Overall, it was a mixed emotion dining experience. Started with OH fudge you just seated me at the tables behind the host counter, isolated and separated by a wall from the main dining area? (Gave me a little flashback of my experience at Ramsay's steakhouse?!?). Thank goodness that wasn't the case when I took a peek at the main dining area being all occupied. The owners and staffs were very informative and friendly. They were very engaging with all of the customers and making sure everything was okay on a regular basis. And of course they were going from table to table in doing the bbq'ing for everyone. It's nice but I generally would prefer to handle the meat myself rather than having someone else touching my meat (get your mind out of the gutter! I eat at a slower pace and when others bbq my meat too fast, it wouldn't be hot and will be dry when left hanging). As for the food; love the steamed egg, the gam ja tang was decent, the beef was fresh but could be a bit more tender and need to show the bone if the description said bone in short ribs plus it would make a better presentation, the veggies and corn cheese were a bit sloppy could use some improvement on that. Anyways, I would like to go back and give it a try when they are done with the soft opening (silly ppl, have some confidence in your product and service)), I do recommend giving them a try. A soft mutual rating for now.

I was…read morepleasantly surprised to discover that Soju is quite spacious inside and that it actually has a cozy ambiance for happy hour drinks. Service was pretty quick when I visited, wasn't too busy with about three other tables of diners. Food-wise: their prices and portions are quite reasonable but I have yet to discover my favorite menu item or their best dishes as taste for bulgogi was just okay. Overall, their weekday lunch special is good value. Though their food on my first visit wasn't especially memorable, their spacious interior + modern ambience + efficient service + good value and free parking brings them up from 3.5 stars to a 4 stars rating since this is a place I would definitely consider visiting again to try other dishes. And I am hopeful about finding items to my liking because they offer a fairly diverse food and drinks menu.

It's simply decorated with Soju bottles or posters of Korean pop stars or actors. Love the casual and laid back vibe! There is a bell on the table if you need attention from the servers, and they are usually pretty efficient and fast when it is rung. We saw that there was a $9.99 combo deal and everyone at our table was shocked. We all ordered that. The combo comes with your choice of a noodle dish (Jajangmyeon or Black Bean noodles, Korean udon, or Spicy Cold noodles) and a Beef Bulgogi on the side. I ordered the Jajangmyeon with the Beef Bulgogi and it was great! I enjoyed the nice chew from the noodles and the Black Bean sauce was flavoured well. I was pleased to find chunks of pork in the noodles also. The Beef Bulgogi was a little watery, but tasted sweet and tender. All that food for $9.99. That's unheard of in this economy and in these times! Amazing. We'll definitely return as we saw other great deals on the menu also!

I dont really like jambong, so I'm super glad 88 noodle house lets you choose 2 jjajangmyeon! Perfect combo. For the meat dish, you can get tangsuyuk or gganpunggi. We chose the gganpunggi (sweet chili chicken). Jjajangmyeon was ok. Nothing too special about it. Good portions. The gganpunggi was also a good portion! However, I found that it was mostly batter, and since they use a mix of tapioca starch and other as breading, it gets jello-y when not completely cooked. The flavor was really good, but I was disappointed with the batter to chicken ratio. I will continue my search for this type of combo!

We always get the black bean noodles. Flavour is consistent, tasty, and it comes out quick and hot from the kitchen. We rotate between the sweet chili chicken and the sweet and sour pork. This time we got the sweet chili chicken. Flavour is good and comes piping hot and crispy. However, I did find the breading a bit heavy and there is a lot of fat in the layers. Same goes for the sweet and sour pork. I love their coating and the flavour is great, but sometimes I just get a coated piece of fat which is a bit off-putting. We also like the japchae, but find it has a bit too much onion for us. Ok cold nights we like to get the 88 noodle soup. Hot, peppery, slightly spicy. Goes well with the pickles they give you. Service is always quick and polite. No issues there. And the seating is spacious with lots of booth seating.

We also got prime grade beef short ribs, marinated short ribs, and brisket point. I would say this can easily be shared by 4 people because it's a lot of food! We ate all the meat but had a lot of the soup and rice left. It was $140 for all of that which when split is pretty good! My favourite was their brisket point. Their soup was also veryyy comforting!! My other two friends got their glass noodles and Korean pancakes. The glass noodles were delicious!! Very flavourful. The pancakes I thought were a little too oily. I would definitely come back! The service was fast but I thought it was very strange that they wouldn't provide more than 2 takeout boxes for a table of 5.
