Stonehenge! It's... well, rocks. Not as spectacular as national parks in the States or some of the world wonders, but interesting history behind it. We actually enjoyed walking from the parking lot to the actual stones as we visited in April and the weather was perfect for the walk. Being in nature and getting to appreciate the vast fields of sheep and flowers was half of the journey anyways! The weather was great and overall I'm glad we visited, but it's definitely a visit once ordeal.
To the Stones! I'm going to save you all over £38. There's a free walking path that gets you pretty close to the stones (see photos). Don't buy the tour as it only includes a bus ride to Stonehenge and closer viewing. You are not allowed to touch the rocks anymore so I don't really see the point of buying tickets. The best bathrooms are by the tour buses. The lines are shorter. Also if you choose to talk avoid the fields as there are a landline of sheep poop. Technically you can drive to a road to there the stones are located but the road is not paved. Lastly listen to How Stonehenge Works by How I Built This podcast to get a pretty good overview and how no one knows what's really going on with the stones. Enjoy!
If I had ONE place in England to visit this would be it..... and it was. We spent a good part of the day at the location of one of my childhood dreams. Stonehenge!!! I am currently on a European Christmas Cruise and there was an opportunity to visit here. The visit was everything I thought it would be and more. To complete the Yelp experiance I ate a blade of grass which was delicious. The ambiance is kind of stoney but that was expected. I would return down the road to eat another blade of grass to see the stones again. Highly recommend!
I thought Stonehenge was simply amazing. A must see once in your life and definitely a place that holds a special place in my heart. Really grateful I came here last summer and that the weather was so lovely. An ancient mystery and world wide known landmark - these stones had puzzled people for years and have been studied for centuries. I ended up buying a book at their gift shop so I won't give you a history lesson or spoil how the stones were formed and got here but if your interested there is now plenty of literature out here. The Stonehenge site has a cafe and a gift shop so there is a little more to do then just to see the stones. We purchased our tickets in advance to see the stones online. I would recommend but you would hate to miss out or wait long hours if certain time frames are sold out once you get here. It was a breeze navigating the check in and once through you can wait for one of their little buses to get a ride to the stones. It's also walkable/hike able to get to the stones but the majority of visitors seem to take the buses, at least one way. The stones are simply magnificent and my best advice would be to come earlier in the day and on a weekday. There will always be crowds but I did feel like the day we came it wasn't too busy so we could capture great photos without too many people being in the way or getting In the background of the photos. I didn't stop at the cafe part but it's nice to have an option for a soda and snack if needed. Restrooms were clean and my personal favorite (outside of the stones) was their gift shop. Had a great amount of tourists items. I bought some great Stonehenge hats and magnets to take home as gifts and then purchased myself a book so I could learn more about the history of Stonehenge. Overall a 10/10 experience as it's a place I had always wanted to see since being a little kid - dreams do come true :)
What can I say about Stonehenge that hasn't already been said. It's a monumental structure built between 3000 and 1500 BC. Experts have not been fully able to discover or explain its origins or its meaning (purpose). There are a number of theories. Suffice it to say - this is a MUST SEE site if you're in the UK. It is definitely awesome and awe inspiring. Don't miss it.
Sorry for being a grumpy Gus in this review! Yes is is awesome and amazing!! We came here on a small bus tour on June 19, 2025. We decided to take two days in London and a trip to Stonehenge and Bath before a cruise out of Dover, UK. The buses drop people off at the visitor center parking area, and then you have to walk to the site. It is about a 20-minute walk. Maybe I was a little grumpy that day, since an unusual heat wave hit the UK, with temperatures reaching 92ºF and high humidity. Yes, it was amazing to see it, but it was a long walk in that kind of heat to get from the bus drop-off to the actual site. No shade at all. There is a roped area that protects people from touching the rocks. It really didn't take more than 15 minutes to see the entire site, and I was melting! I didn't find any guide explaining Stonehenge's history, but it was so crowded that I may have missed it. Little did I know it was so crowded, as people were there for the weekend for the summer solstice, which is June 20 at sunrise. People made a weekend of it to see the sunrise. Visitors basically just took photos and left. There were large charter buses picking up people walking back, but it was at least a 20-minute wait in the hot sun due to the long lines. We did go to the visitor center's cafe, which was such a relief.
What: Stone Circle Experience tour. Highly recommended!!! This is a special tour that is either early morning before they open or after hours after closing. We did after hours. This is a guided tour of just 26 people and you get to go inside the stones behind the ropes! You literally are standing right next to the stones (do not touch please!) The regular tour has you standing far from the stones. It was so amazing to feel the energy of the stones by going inside the center of them. So cool!! An unforgettable experience of a lifetime!! Price: £70 for adults and £40 for kids 5-17 years old. We were staying in London and took the train to Salisbury in the morning. We enjoyed the day there and then took a local taxi (All the Sevens) to the Stonehenge Visitors Center. We arranged for the same taxi company to pick us up in the evening back to the Salisbury train station.
This is a must see. It's fairly far from London. Our cruise got off in Southampton, so we decided to book a tour to Stonehenge since we were out here already. Amazing site to see. Learned a lot about the site, burial mounds and area. Site and staff does a great job of shuttling people to Stonehenge and preserving the area. Even with lots of people, the place is huge and you will get great pics. We decided to walk back. Security/guides recommended the trail through the sheep farm and Fargo Wood. That was spectacular. Bring a jacket as it can get windy and cold.
Stonehenge is an ancient site with stones. That's it, that's the program, nothing more, nothing less. You can walk the fields to get a little exercise but other than that, there isn't much to explore. If I never can back here again, my life would be okay. They have a brand new cafe with a gift shop attached. I stopped here as apart of a tour I bought on Viator, which I recommend you to check out. We went to Windsor Castle/Stonehedge/Lacock/Bath. You line up to catch a bus that takes you 5 minutes to the site. You walk around it, take some pictures, then get in line to head back on the same bus. Come here if you want to. I have nothing else to say.
Stonehenge is one of the most mysterious and fascinating ancient monuments in the world. Located in Wiltshire, England, it is a prehistoric structure believed to have been built over 4,500 years ago. It has long been the subject of archaeological study, inspiring theories about its purpose and construction. first of all - you can't see Stonehenge up close. there is a rope that separates you from this monument. but I guess it is fine (at least for me) It is a stone circle made up of 38 stones on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. It then took over 1,000 years to build, in four long stages! Archaeologists believe the final changes were made around 1,500 BC, in the early Bronze Age. Each year, on 21 June, which is the longest day of the year, the sun rises over the Heel Stone at Stonehenge -this is called the summer solstice. The sun also always sets over the Heel Stone on the shortest day of the year. This means that our ancestors were probably using Stonehenge as a calendar. There are lots of theories about how the placement of the stones would coincide with their months, seasons, and years. How the stones were moved to the Stonehenge site is a mystery that still hasn't been solved. We know some of the stones came from Wales - that's a long way to transport stones that weigh more than 4 elephants each. Some theories are that they were dragged on sleighs before being taken on rafts over water but this has never been proven. Every year on the 21st of June around 20,000 people watch the sunrise over Stonehenge. we visited this as part of a bus tour but you can buy a ticket [GBP 28- $40] and the bus will take you to the main spot from the visitor center. Don't even think of walking, it's like 40 minutes of walk from the visitor center.
I love visiting historical sites, though the day I went it was FREEZING! Unless you're super bundled up, I'd suggest visiting Stonehenge when it's warmer so you can do the full walk around the site. I was so cold I just took a few pics and hopped back on the shuttle bus! It was cool capturing the ancient relics in pictures. Sad we can't get close to them any longer because stupid people vandalized them and tried to knock them over. Overall a worthwhile trip, but I recommend going with a tour group. My friends and I almost missed our train back to London navigating this on our own.

Now we knew we couldn't get up close to the stone circle, and honestly, if you find yourself in England and you have a decent zoom on your camera, you may want to save yourself some money and take some pics from the road cuz' it's definitely visible from there! For us, there was no way we could pass up the opportunity to get as close as possible to such a significant piece of history. read more
The first time I've ever seen one of the seven wonders of the world and it is awe-inspiring. We went on a typical cold, dreary, rainy English day, but the experience more than made up for the journey. I must admit, I did feel this magical force field of history and space converging at this one spot. read more
Ok guys. I admit I didn't really care about Stonehenge growing up. I didn't write research reports about this in the 4th grade, and always changed the channel when something about this came up on this History Channel. I had absolutely no interest whatsoever. A bunch of rocks. Who gives. I came here because my boyfriend and my cousin really REALLY wanted to see this, and lo and behold, this was included in a tour that already had 2 other places I wanted to go to. The bus ride took 2 hours to reach this place, and it was well worth it. Given it is in the middle of nowhere, this place is absolutely amazing. Had no idea how ancient people would move rocks that weigh 2 tons each from 200 miles away. This place baffles me and though speculations include aliens, worshiping grounds, and burials, there is still no accurate reason how these things got here. Cool, right?! Certainly cool enough for me to write a review about it! read more
I've always wanted to see Stonehenge so when I finally got a chance it was well worth the time and money. There's not much to say other than it's a monument I think every traveler would appreciate visiting for its mystique and history. You may see an alien or something manipulating the rocks. read more

Great and amazing feeling to see Stonehenge!! Went with a group which helps to get through the lines faster. The Stonehenge admission includes a bus ride back and forth which is super convenient and the staff is super friendly. There were fresh strawberries and cherries being sold on the side close to the stones which were really sweet and yummy. World class place and glad to be able to see the history and mystery of the stones! As with much of England summers, you just never know what the weather is so come prepared with an umbrella everywhere you go. It started pouring right when we got to the stones and didn't stop for a few minutes. Lovely scenery and greenery everywhere around Stonehenge which made up for the showers. The audio guide was informational and gave many different theories of how the stones got there and their purposes as well has the mounds that are close by. The suvenier shop is a bit pricey but they have good quality items. In fact many of them were made in England and not China which is refreshing! A bit off the path of London but if you have time and want to one of the wonders of the world, check out Stonehenge and experience the wonder. read more

Simply spectacular. Come prepared to walk! We came on a Wednesday afternoon and it was very hot. There are no bathrooms or snacks available at the stones so make sure that you go at the visitor's center before taking the shuttle up to the stones. In my opinion, it would be better to see the stones first and then come back to the exhibition at the visitor's center. Plan to spend around 2 hours here. read more

The Stonehenge is great and it's one of those things you should always go see if you've got the chance. Went in December at around 1PM, no crowds whatsoever. Great viewing experience, even though you couldn't actually walk among the stones or touch them (to do that you need limited tickets for early morning and late evening viewing, book in advance online and extra charge). The whole visitors center is poorly thought it IMHO. I get the incentive and the need to make money off the attraction, and I don't even mind the price (though high it is and feels like it's only there to pay for the visitors center). There was no need to build it that far out from the stones and the shuttle ride is just a pain in the ass (metaphorically and literally, courtesy of wooden benches). When we were leaving we were late for our bus, so we made a run for it as soon as we got off the shuttle, some guy tried vehemently to force us to go through the gift store as we were leaving. Just ignored him and went for the bus that was about to depart (with the next one in an hour and a half). Bizarre. read more
This was definitely one of my top things to 'do' in London/UK. We opted to take the sunset private tour which allowed us to step inside the henge. It was well worth it being able to just stand inside and marvel at everything. You weren't able to touch anything (and 2 armed security guards reminded you of that). It made for some great photo ops and a once-in-a-lifetime experience! read more
First of all -- it is nearly a wonder of the world. If you're in Wiltshire and you don't see Stonehenge... you've missed out. Second, the new visitors center is really nice! We were visiting family in Salisbury and I took my oldest boy out to Stonehenge, and was initially concerned with the new set up. However, he absolutely loved it (and I did too). The audio guides have a kids and an adult option, and the trivia/information they provide is really entertaining (as well as educational). The gift shop is great, and the little history area with the room showing the sun at stonehenge is really great as well. There is a bus you can take out of Salisbury to get to stonehenge, and the cost to visit is negligible. If you haven't been and you're in the area, slot out 3-4 hours and take the time to visit one of the world's oldest and greatest destinations! read more

My wife and I booked a tour out of London, and it was completely worth it. The bus ride is about 1.5 - 2 hours out of London, but with a tour guide explaining the history, the gorgeous countryside rushing past, and wifi on the bus, it didn't seem to take too long. Actually walking around Stonehenge was nothing short of incredible, and I don't think I've ever enjoyed losing feeling in my fingers so much. It's too bad you can't touch or climb on the stones anymore, but I'd still definitely recommend making it a point to visit. read more

Stonehenge is a must go in the UK, the best time for pictures is during sunset the only downside are the cost, one adult is 20£ and one student is 17£. You can also go for free, but than you can't get close. In my opinion the money was worth it. read more

Stonehenge is not far from Basingstoke. The pointer I put on the map is not correct but I did not manage to locate the site but you can find directions on this website: http://www.stonehenge.co.uk/arrive.htm The site is surrounded by fences so you have to pay to get closer. And you cannot touch. It's about £6 (adults) to visit Stonehenge, £4 if you are a student. For this price, you get a headset that tells you the story of the site. But to be honest, I should have staid outside the fences and got a free brochure. It would have had been the same! But I am glad that I went there to see one of the wonders of the world! read more

Stonehenge is indeed amazing to see. The stones are massive, and it really is incredible to believe the amount of work it must have taken to have them cut, moved, and placed. They're imposing, and really make you think. Until you go, you may not know that there are plenty of other prehistoric bits around: outer rings of earth, burial mounds, and other bits of earth engineering and excavation that are part of the site. It is unfortunate that ages of carelessness mean that you now cannot touch the stones, only walk around them. Get the hand-held audio guide, it explains a lot and is worth it. There's a gift ship and a place to get a coffee and a sandwich if you need it. Stonehenge does not bear up to repeat viewings, though. It really doesn't change. At all. All my overseas visitors want to see it. I just stay in the car now. For another site with stones just as old that you can touch (but are less impressive size-wise) go to Avebury (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/127228-Avebury-Stone-Circle-Marlborough) . read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Even without the audio tour, the museum, and the plaques, seeing the stones for yourself is extremely moving. English Heritage has done their best to make the site as informative as possible, and while when I went it was way too hot to focus on the audio tour coupled with the hordes of other tourists, it was still a fantastic experience! read more

The great and ancient stone circle of Stonehenge is one of the wonders of the world. What visitors see today are the substantial remnants of the last in a sequence of such monuments erected between circa 3000BC and 1600BC. There has always been intense debate over quite what purpose Stonehenge served. Certainly, it was the focal point in a landscape filled with prehistoric ceremonial structures, now a World Heritage Site. read more

We visited Stonehenge in July 08. Since being little I had yearned to visit Stonehenge and when I did I was disappointed. I don't know what I expected, perhaps to meaningful spiritual bonding / awakening? Did it happen? No! Was I expecting more from a pile of stones? Yes! Was that silly of me? Very! Saying that I would like to go for a solstice and I am sure the atmosphere would be better at the moment I have a fondness for the place but the Why is is there seems to be bothering to the extent where I didn't enjoy it for what it was. read more

Pretty cool. Long drive from London, with not a lot to see on the way. But, it's an amazing piece of history. Worth seeing and not passing up. Won't take too much time once you are their unless you really love looking at big rocks. read more

Absolutely incredible. We came here with a tour group in September. It was the last stop and were fortunate enough that the tour guide was well-known and we were the very last group admitted before they closed down for the day. Parking is less than a mile away from the shuttle pick-up. It is stunning! Don't believe it when people say you can't get that close. Obviously you can't get close enough to touch it, but there are plenty of spots outside of the barrier that allow for the perfect Stonehenge shot. The gift stop has goodies for everybody. A wonderful, unforgettable experience overall. read more

Certainly must see in the UK however, be aware of the cost before you go! Parking is 3 pounds (unless you are a national trust member) and to go into the site it is £8 for adults (again free if you are a national trust or english heritage member). Perhaps call me naive but I felt this was pretty steep considering you can get just as close from the road (where I took the picture). It is in the middle of nowhere too so I wouldn't set aside a whole day to see it.. read more

Such a wonderful place to see. We had surprisingly good weather the day I went. The audio tour was very informative. I have been before, back when the tour center was a hole in the ground, and the updated center is absolutely amazing. The gift shop offers so much more now, and the cafeteria serves amazing food (either that or I was just REALLY hungry after the tour) The tour is walking only, they now offer a shuttle from the updated visitors center to the Stonehenge trail walk. I was surprised the shuttle line didn't take very long and it's only a mile and a half to the drop off, so it's not a long ride either. Faster than the walk anyways. The path takes you very wide to show you the ground markings, and the heel stone and then brings you in closer to the actual rock circle. So many great photo opportunities! read more

Great 1/2 day trip from London. You can get really close at some points for the walk because the rope line around the Stone allows you to. Photographer tip: Shoot at a low angle to rid of all the other tourist in the background. Also if you got time, instead of taking the tram from the visitor area, walk the trail to the Stones instead. It's a nice 20 minute walk through the fields!!! read more

Are you seriously checking Yelp to see if you should visit Stonehenge?? Just go! Read up on it or something. Just know that the temp drops substantially with the wind regardless the time of year. I went in Nov and wish I had gloves to go with my coat, scarf, and hat. Def pick up the audio guide so you know what you're looking at. Sunset is stunning - schedule your visit at least an hr prior so you get the best photo ops. read more
