I needed a new cable, so I decided to go to DJ Store to purchase it. I had never been to DJ Store before so I was unsure of whether the plan would work. It was an experiment. Hypothesis: I would go to the DJ Store and they would have the cable I needed. Null Hypothesis: They wouldn't. I cycled my way down to the back streets parallel to Parramatta Road that were indiscernible as to whether the streets belonged to Leichhardt, Petersham or Stanmore. I locked my bike up and entered the sandstone building on the corner. (Sandstone referring to the colour and not the building material in this instance.) The shop was full of people looking at and trying the various electronic gadgets and DJ systems that were strewn across the shop. Some of them with Plastic Visors, some with arm bands, most in three quarter denim pants and all of them noticeably DJ's. A back and forth between two of the customers confirmed this as they talked about their "Decks" and the tracks they played, where they played. They just met, I was there experiencing the wonder of a first encounter. Would it grow to something more? Or would they leave it at the door? I chose my cable and took it to the counter, almost got sucked into an impulse purchase of a laptop case. Didn't buy it. Too expensive. Let me summarise my DJ Store experience. Full of DJ's, kind of expensive, but has the stuff you need. Result: I purchased my cable, but at what cost? (About $15.) read more

Very unimpressed with this place. I called SPECIFICALLY to check whether they had stock of a certain audio interface to which they said "THEY ARE IN STOCK". So I trek across town from Newport to Richmond to be told "WE DONT HAVE ANY IN STOCK"! There is one on the shelf which apparently is "already sold" even though there is nothing written on the box to indicate it. Clearly the game here is get the customer in the store as they will end up buying something else - which is what I had to do. The store is understaffed, people waiting everywhere....stock levels are pathetic...look at their website, almost every audio interface says "out of stock". Pathetic. read more

I was trying to buy recording equipment to capture a live DJ set and sales rep (Peter from Sydney store) was rude and giving me sarcastic answers. I did not appreciate this. Also told me this was not possible which it obviously is. Uneducated and not qualified to work there. T read more

Store DJ is fantastic... Straight off ... the prices are usually as good or better than online. The range of gear is extensive and well chosen. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful and give you enough space to try stuff out and don't make you feel like you're wasting their time. Over the years I have purchased everything from turntable cartridges, microphones and cables through to CD decks, mixers, Eurorack modules and Synths. On two occasions, I have bought items that after trying them out in my studio have not quite fitted my needs and Store DJ let me swap for an alternative or gave me a refund. I live in the Inner West of Sydney and there is no alternative to Store DJ, but I really don't feel like I need much more. The only problem is keeping my money in my wallet. I need a new Moog.... I know where to go to try it out and haggle.......... read more
