Really difficult to pay! A frustrating visit, one of the…read moreitems we tried to pay for was price marked lower than the price it scanned at. Very few staff members around to help with problems. We scanned our items at the self service then had to wait for the one advisor to finish serving an elderly lady who needed full attention to pay for her items. Once the staff member was available to us, she was unable to adjust the price so we had to queue for a 3rd time at the refund point where the advisor had a long queue of other frustrated customers. I think your regular M&S customer expects as a bare minimum to have staff members available to process your sale.

It's not a bad-sized store, and there was a really good selection of ladieswear. Everyone knows M&SI don't need to tell you what they sell! Decent sale items when I was there though, I love January! Didn't use the cafe but it looked pleasant enough, located upstairs but there are lifts so you don't have to battle with the escalators and your buggy. Nothing to set the earth alight, but a good solid traditional store.

The venue itself is imposing and spacious, though very crowded for big events like popular LitFest talks. The acoustics in the main hall are pretty bad, but staff do their best to overcome that. Overall, if there's something you want to see, go and see it! Your experience shouldn't be either ruined or greatly enhanced by the venue.

We both agreed we could have spent more time than we had here, because there really is SO MUCH to look at! The Model Village is, apparently, the only grade II listed model village in the country; it's a one-ninth scale of the actual village (...and, there's a model village WITHIN the model village, too) and features incredible craftsmanship. Every detail is so thoughtfully remembered and recreated: music playing from within the church, the five bridges, an actual running water feature, and all the many, different species of trees. The attention to detail (opening signs on windows, tiny animals in barns, little breads at the bakery) is incredible. Charming and well-maintained, this model village gave us a richer appreciation of Bourton-on-the-water itself!

Also available at 'The Works' are celebrity calenders, postcards, posters and for some reason lots of books about Steam Railways?! The shop often is very disorganised, with some items not really displayed but merely plonked down in their original packaging with the top ripped open. However, the shop is good for childrens books, big floppy paperbacks that kids love. It does seem quite a kids orientated shop actually, running all over the place whenever I've passed. The best thing about the shop is its location. The shop is situated right in the heart of the town centre, literally probably the most central shop in the town. A good shop for Christmas when you dont know what to buy for presents!
