A decade ago, I sometimes went to a tiny tiki bar at the District in Tustin until one day, to my disappointment, it vanished. Recently, while reading a tiki bar review by Raven R., I noticed it had the same name as the place I used to visit and, after a bit of investigation, realized that they had moved to this larger space. They'd been in business for a few years at this new location and I just now found out! I immediately made reservations (recommended). We were seated in one of the tiki booths, shown a QR code to access the menu, and reminded there is a two hour time limit due to limited seating. We started with a couple of appetizers - angry edamame and chicken skewers - as they were a happy hour deal. The edamame, made with sriracha, garlic, and ginger, were at the edge of my spice tolerance (which is very low), but I loved them, while the chicken was tender with a delicious miso sauce. The big reason to come here is for their magnificent variety of cocktails. I had a Kona Coffee (spiced rum, macadamia nut liqueur, espresso, and coconut) which was fantastic, definitely on my list of favorites. Later I had a Rum Runner (Hamilton West Indies rum, blackberry, banana, pineapple, and orange) which was fruity and sweet, served in a surfer-monkey mug. I really like this one too. As a main dish I got the grilled pineapple teriyaki chicken sammie, which was a festival for the taste buds, although a bit messy. The accompanying fries were excellent. The atmosphere is dark and "tiki" which, along with attentive service (and of course incredible cocktails), make for a highly enjoyable experience.
Stowaway is such a fun spot to kick back with friends. The whole tiki/island vibe really sets the mood--it feels like a mini escape the moment you walk in. Great decor, great energy, and the perfect place to hang out, drink, and snack. Speaking of drinks... they are really good--almost dangerously so. Everything we tried was delicious, but the mai tai was definitely our favorite. Super well-balanced and easy to keep ordering without realizing how strong they are. The food didn't disappoint either. Every dish we had was flavorful and paired perfectly with the drinks, making it easy to settle in and stay awhile. Overall, a lively, laid-back spot with great drinks, tasty food, and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a go-to for a night out with friends.
This is a fun themed bar. Parking can be tight so make sure to prepare appropriately. Our server, Chin was the absolute best! We were well taken care of and all our questions were answered. The drink menu is extensive so expect some tough choices. We got black sands, flamingo, and rum runner. Black Sands- This is rum based with guava mango, pineapple, and orange. It was a fruity, vacation drink taste. Flamingo- You get a strong pear flavor with a hint of lime. Main alcohol is vodka. Very citrusy. Rum Runner- You get a montage of blackberry, banana, orange, and pineapple. Served in a fun monkey glass. Great experience overall!
Completely blown away by Stowaway! What an awesome tiki bar. While the decor is great, the cocktails are what really impress. Rarely do you get both a fun tiki bar AND world-class drinks, but that is exactly what Stowaway offers out here in Tustin. Mix in impeccable service and you have yourself one of the best establishments in the area. I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu items. Plan ahead because this spot is in high demand!
Fun bar with plenty of drinks and food to choose from! They also have great happy hour deals. It's a tiki bar, but I was so glad the drinks weren't overly sweet or loaded with sugar like at many other places. I tried the loco moco, which came with mac salad and was really good. There was a juicy patty with rice and gravy, and a perfectly cooked egg on top. I also tried the coconut shrimp, which was super crunchy with a big coconut flavor and paired perfectly with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. I would come again and try their different cocktails!
What a super fun bar and restaurant this is! The theme is Tiki and they have a very vast menu of really creative drinks! I tried the Smoking Rita (Mezcal, grilled pineapple, lemon, agave) and it was delicious but strong! My husband liked it since he likes stronger drinks where I prefer not to taste the alcohol as much so The Holy Grail (Tequila, Giffard Raspberry, Agave, Lime, Cucumber and Raspberry) was perfect for me! I could drink like 10 of those it was so delicious! They also have a yummy food menu which I want to go back and try since we just came here for Happy Hour and sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and shared the Angry Edamame. Watch out- the Angry Edamame is SPICY! Way spicier than the normal garlic chili edamame that they have at other restaurants! We sat at the bar and it was easy to order food and drinks from the Bartender. You can make a reservation but we got there early (before 5pm) and were seated right away. Their Happy Hour Menu runs Tuesday-Friday 4pm-6pm and it's great value both for drinks and food (our Angry Edamame was half priced at $5, instead of $10) Also all skewers are $2 off. They also have Dole Whip here (like at Disneyland) which I absolutely love!! The ambiance here is also off the charts - everything you'd expect when you think "Tiki Bar"! I can't wait to go back to try more of their large variety of drinks and more of their food!
Take a journey to the South Pacific! Stowaway will have you singing Bali Hai in no time. The atmosphere alone is worth the wait. Share some spam masubi or Spam Spam Navhos, Then forget your troubles with drinks like The Painkiller, or a flaming pina colada. This is a great place to bring that sober friend of yours who likes to be designated driver, as the pours are strong, the Tiki gods loom large, and it always feels like summer. Enjoy!
There's too much positive things to say about this place! For starters, the drinks here are so yummy and will definitely get the vibes going. The food is delicious. Our Server, Fabian was so helpful. Checked in frequently, good attitude and super helpful with ordering and anything else we needed. This place is perfect for shmedium sized groups ~5-6 and also good for date nights. Music and environment is moderate. Thank you Fabian for making our experience awesome!
We absolutely loved our time here tonight! This is such a cute spot. Very immersive, clam and relaxing! Fair pricing for drinks and they have plenty of non-alcoholic options which was great for us! Our family members enjoyed some of their alcoholic drinks: Mai Tai, Bahama Mama and Smokey Rita. We enjoyed non-alcoholic Shirley Temples (with a side of fire) and pain killer! They also have a few vegan options for food. Our waiter, Crystal was super friendly and made our experience awesome! Thank you so much! We can't wait to make a road trip back out here to Newport. We'll definitely stop here again!
We have been here over a dozen times since our first trip. Let me just say we were blown away then, and still blown away now. Stowaway is easily becoming a top go-to restaurant for several reasons. The food is island themed, fresh and even most appetizers are easily splittable. Drinks are strong and crafted to aloha perfection, every time! Hands down our top place for date nights or when we take family from out of town, yes it's that impressive. And don't forget to ask what tiki mugs are in stock and available for purchase, they make for great mementos and gifts. Dole whip with rum. Easily the best thing all night. I got it twice!! Once with guava flavor and second with mango flavor. Omg it was like literally drinking a fruit smoothie at Jamba Juice. 100% would get again. Sorry i took no pics with it Second best thing all night would be the curry fries. So much flavor!!! Literally looking at the picture is making me so hungry Third best thing all night would be the snaquiri shots i took. It was like lemonade!!! The waitress told us it was like a daiquiri shot and i love her for recommending it to us We also ordered poke bombs which had ahi tuna on top of rice on top of a wonton chip. We got spam nachos too! There were also wings and angry edamame which was edamame with sriracha. It was kind of a let down :( but it's ok! i had a super fun time regardless and the other highlights made up for it!! This place was so unexpected and way fun! Just the vibe itself from the decor to the music made me feel like I was on a pirate ship or something. Lol the service was phenomenal. The speakeasy was so fantastic and the drinks were amazing. Grayson and Michelle were my favorites and they made the experience exceptional. Highly recommend to anyone who hasn't gone. This place really left us wanting to go weekly. The inside really gives that tiki island feel without coming off as tacky. They have a big menu and our server was helpful in helping us find the drink we wanted. We tried so many drinks and the presentation and taste were all so good! I would only come back for their drinks, fries & spam Musubi ! Otherwise, I think I'm okay! We tried, Mac salad, stowaway burger, wings, poke bombs, and pineapple fried rice. Unfortunately they were all TOOOO saucey. I understand that some places don't have enough, but these were so overpowering that you couldn't really get the taste of the food itself, and only the sweet sauce. I totally see where they're going with it, but it was so sad we couldn't taste the food itself. Regardless, the service was really good! They were all so nice even on a busy night. And the bartender was so knowledgeable about the menu which made the experience so much better. The vibe is super duper cute! I see why they only use phone menus, you wouldn't be able to see the words. But you definitely get transformed into a different place! We will be back! We went on a Friday evening and thankfully we had made a reservation prior. I overheard other parties walking in having to wait over an hour to get seated. Parking also sucks here but we got lucky. The inside was nicely theme-decorated and it felt like a fancier tiki dive bar where you actually have table seating and drinks served in super cute cups. All the drinks were unique and fun. I came to Stowaway to celebrate my friend's birthday the other day. What a hidden gem! I lived 5 minutes away for the past 3 years and had no idea this little tiki hideaway existed. The entrance is very unassuming, in a small strip mall near the 5 freeway on Newport Ave. Parking, I imagine, may be hard here on the weekends, but we were here turning up on a Wednesday night so parking was plentiful. As soon as you walk in, you are transported into a tropical paradise. My friend had made a reservation for 6 of us, and we were immediately seated at a corner booth. We ordered a scorpion bowl for the table, which was the perfect size for us. It came lit on fire, and pro tip: you can actually light any of your drinks on fire for $2 extra. Highly recommend. We also got a few shareables for the table: spam nachos, ceviche, curry fries, and shishito peppers. The curry fries were my favorite and I enjoyed the fried egg on top! Everything was delicious. When we told the server about our friend's birthday, she gave her a super fun light-up lei and a free shot! Thank you, Stowaway, for making my friend's birthday so special! (I also thought I should note that the speakeasy here, Belly of the Beast, only takes reservations and seats groups of up to 4. This place has such a down to earth, cool tiki bar vibe, and I have to say it's my favorite. I've been celebrating my birthday here. What better way to celebrate than with tiki drinks on fire! The staff is always friendly, unlike some pretentious bars. They also have delicious grub, though keep in mind it's served on paper plates since it is a very casual spot. There is a pool table and a cave area that is perfect for a group of about a dozen people. One caveat is that it is located in a tiny plaza with limited parking, so keep that in mind. read more
This spot has become a regular spot for my friends and I. Literally obsessed with the tiki decor and the the tiki huts and caves. Its def an experience! The chips and guac still have me in a chokehold!! I crave it every now and then and because of how close it is, I can just pop in! (Thats kinda dangerous lol) My friend and I have become familiar with Christian (Chin) and hes always so sweet! He makes us want to come back just to say hi and see how he's doing. Love it Casual tiki bar fan here - I enjoy them a lot l, but I'm not part of the culture. I've been to several, but Stowaway is definitely my favorite so far. The location is themed quite well and very immersive. It creates the perfect laid back/hang out type of ambiance and vibe. Unlike others, there's no pretentiousness here. The servers are really friendly. They help add to the fun laid back feel. The crowd is pretty diverse - couples on a date, friends hanging out, and even some families with young kids- but the servers balance it all really well. And then the drinks- I love them. They have a nice variety and I've really liked most everything I've tried. If you're a fan of sweeter, the Cococano is insanely good! Food is good too- my friend said the coconut shrimp is some of the best he's had. Stowaway is a must visit and one that I will go to as often as able. If I have any advice on what to avoid it would be running late- don't do it. The parking lot can get very full and becomes hard to find a spot depending on the time in the evening. So give yourself plenty of time if you have a reservation. read more
A bartender recommended that we add Stowaway to our Tiki Bar adventure, and we absolutely loved it. When we walked in, the place was totally packed, but we managed to snag a couple of seats at the bar. I started with the Dole Whip with rum--super delicious--and my husband ordered the Zombie. We even ended up purchasing the awesome angler fish mug that the Zombie comes in! The bartenders here are extremely friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Our bartender recommended a drink featuring Dr. Bird to satisfy my husband's request for something with funky rum, and it was so tasty. We did order a bite to eat, but since it was so crazy busy, it never made it to us. After asking about it twice, we decided to just let it go. Even with the missed food, the drinks and overall bar experience were great, and I'll definitely be coming back. Next time, if we want food, we'll probably grab a table instead of sitting at the bar. read more
Saving this tiki bar into my favorites! First timer here after many visits to Strong Water Anaheim and I have to admit I may like this one slightly better. The service was friendly and very attentive. We were recommended the stowaway fries (which were 10/10) and the spam musubi (personally a 7/10 for me) to complement the two strongest drinks: the zombie and the tropical itch. Highly recommend a reservation as there could be long wait times. Overall, the ambiance was lively, friendly, and all around great vibes. drinks are absolutely delicious here. My go to is always the mai tai. I would recommend sitting at the bar since It is a lot faster to order and get seated. Went here for Birthday dinner for my husband, made reservations on Yelp app, first time doing that. I actually asked my Yelp friend Doug B. Since him and his wife go to all the Tiki places and he recommended this place. So figured why not try it, got there got up front parking. Parking lot was not huge but big enough. Walked in and got seated right away. Our server her name was Rose. She was really friendly, we ordered some drinks and some appetizers. The spicy edamame and the Spam nachos which were actually so delicious. For drinks my best friend ordered the Kona Coffee with spiced rum, macadamia nut liquer, espresso and coconut. It was delicious, for his bday they gave us free shots but I only had a sip. He got a beer, the kids ordered soft drinks. Our friends ordered the Moco Loco came with a side of mac salad the mac salad was not that great. I ordered the pineapple fried rice that came in a pineapple, baby girl and her friend both ordered the katsu chicken with rice, and my husband ordered the curry katsu which I didn't get a picture of. But all was really good not our favorite but still really good, wish they gave a little bigger portion of food. But was nice and we had a good dinner and nice time celebrating his bday with our close friends/family. Came here to celebrate my fiancée's birthday with our friends. The ambiance was super cute with cool decorations for Halloween. The drink menu was extensive, and they had a lot of cute-looking drinks! The food was surprisingly solid for a bar. I tried the locals plate, which consisted of a choice of protein (I chose the soft shelled crab), fried egg, rice, and mac salad. Price was reasonable at $16 with $2 extra to change the mac salad to a salad. The soft shelled crab had a good amount of meat in the middle and was soft, sweet, and flavorful. It was fried/crispy. I would prefer a lighter batter though. The salad was good with the mango pieces. The fried egg was cooked nicely. The rice was a little on the mushy side, but it didn't bother me. read more

Last time we were here the host was so so rude if I remember correctly she had colored hair, i believe it was purple. She was an older lady and honestly we were reluctant to try this place again but the drinks were so cute we decided to come back. We had a great time, the staff were so nice and we got our table we reserved in advance. Unfortunately staff can make or break someone's experience thankfully we did not get that lady again. what a fun tiki bar experience. the interior definitely smells like a bar but the decor and vibes distract you from it. i was pleased that the food menu clearly marked what is vegan and what could be made vegan, and i was surprised that some of the foods were actual entrees i booked a reservation for 2 for 5:30 and my friends booked a reservation for 3 for the same time, and we requested that we be seated with each other since the reservation times for a party of 5 didn't fit with our schedules. we were pleased that we could be seated with each other and spent the 2 hours chatting away. we appreciated the spooky-colored lights and the seasonal drink menu, and i'd definitely come back to try more of the seasonals. overall it was such a fun time the bathrooms were clean and had multiple stalls for M/F. we did note that it was a little chilly but i'd prefer that over being too warm. and heads up that parking is kinda small for the area! read more

The drinks, vibes, service, and ambiance are all 5 stars. Absolutely great presentation. The food was mediocre. I met up with 3 friends here at 5pm. We didnt have a reservation, but there was no wait. I do suggest making a reservation because it got busy quick. I arrived before my friends and asked if I could just wait for them at the bar top. I was told, no. Once you're seated anywhere, they start timing you. Each person is only allowed to sit for 2 hours. OK, it is what it is. Just be prepared to stand while you wait for your party. I tried the Three Dots and a Dash and the Treasure Box. My favorite drink was the treasure box. The salt and vinegar wings was my favorite dish. They were really good. The macaroni salad was disappointing. It tasted like grocery store Mac salad. The ceviche was also very basic. The stowaway fries were good, but not something id order again. I did not try the cookie, but my friends did not care for it. The drinks are the real winner here. The lighting inside is also beautiful for photos. If I come back, id try the fried rice and order the wings again. They are very strict about the 2 hour policy, so use your time wisely. read more

Reservations are a must, but worth the wait. This is a laidback tiki bar with pool tables. The theme is great the music is ok. The food was pretty good! We had the curry fries (amazing!), coconut shrimp (good but the sauce was a little too sweet), and the seared ahi tuna ( a little dry). Now for the best part. The drinks are ALL delicious! We had the coco cano (great experience), the black sands, the zombie (delicious and really strong) and the Ailani elixir (the least exciting one). read more

We ( me plus one ) came here about an hour or so before they closed and they were still nice enough to seat us , take our food and drink order ( last call was coming up but they were nice enough to allow us to take our time looking at them menu) For food we had the following starters: -ceviche ( ask for the hot sauce! ) -egg rolls ( bomb! ) -spam Masumi ( a must! ) -ahi tuna ( it's okay. Good but had better) - poke bombs (DELICIOUS! ) For drinks we had the hurricane ash and hotter than dickens. Very strong and very good! We will definitely be back to try the entrees and more drinks! Cool Tiki spot to hit for sure! But make sure you make that reservation! The food and drinks are super yummy and Christian (Chin) is one of the Best Mixologists around! Super cool tiki vibes inside, with some of the better tiki decor set-ups I've seen around. I'm told they have a speakeasy called Belly of the Beast however I've yet to get in there. They definitely get filled up so Reservations are Highly recommended, but on occasion you may get lucky during the week with a walk in. Overall, definitely come in, grab some cool merch, yummy food, and some Tiki goodness drink! read more

Really fun experience at Stowaway. We got three cocktails total ~$58 with tip. Great drinks worth the price. Really fun place to come sit and have a cocktail some appetizers and food. I didn't eat any food, but it looked really good. The staff was super friendly and helpful with ordering drinks and providing recommendations. Definitely make reservations! They get busy. Upon entrance, you enter into a new world! The tiki vibes and ambiance created an enjoyable space for my friends and I to enjoy drinks, food, and a good time. We were able to try a variety of drinks, a lot being rum based! I love a good tropical drink, and all of the drinks had a perfect balance of rum and sweetness. If you're looking for a stronger drink, I'd recommend the Tropical Itch (it has bourbon), and if you enjoy sweeter drinks, the Cococano and Blue Hawaiian were both very sweet and coconutty. I will definitely be returning to this spot! Especially with the affordable pricing for a speakeasy/bar. read more
