    Beautiful Crown Prime Rib Roast

Strack & Van Til Portage, In. Went above and beyond any expectations I could have hoped for. I Totally Appreciate the Manager Bill and Ryan in the Meat Dept. After a minor miscommunication with the shopper. They set me up and Manager Bill even personally delivered the Biggest and Best looking Crown Prime Rib Roast I have ever seen. just in time for that Perfect Easter Dinner. I have truly been Blessed many times by Portage, In. Strack & Van Til It takes the whole TEAM to give this kind of service like this. kudos to all of you Thank You Very Much

I like shopping in Northwest Indiana, and enjoy shopping here for groceries and Sushi. Yes, and Sushi. The prices are reasonable- especially compared to tax-crazy Illinois, and the store's Sushi is fresh. The sushi chef is personable and does a fantastic job. The store carries an assortment of wine and beer and I've never had a bad experience. I've visited this store countless times, too. Social distancing is practiced and the greeters at the entrance throughly clean each cart before rolling it to you. I haven't experienced this much in the land of Lincoln.

We ordered our wedding cake and cannolis from the bakery and it was fantastic! They delivered it to the hall and everything! The cake was delicious and the cannolis are always great! Everyone was so on top of their game I would for sure recommend it for anything and definitely a wedding! They even let you do a cake tasting for it which is always a nice touch!

I am a grocer's worst nightmare. I really am. I am the girl who's always asking the poor produce guy if they happen to have anything fresher in the back. They always come back with options even though really the stuff that's already out is perfectly fine. I am also the girl who always reaches for the box that's behind the box that's up front. Yep. I confess. That's me. And still. No one has ever asked me to leave. ^_~ They always carry the things no one else carries. Himalayan Pink Sea Salt for instance. And daikon. And their sugar free chocolates are always fresh. Yes, I can tell when they are not. The store is always clean and everyone is friendly and HELPFUL. Sometimes too helpful. So... in the interest of full disclosure... there is one lady at the registers who will tie my produce bags. I don't know why she does this. I am a grown woman. If I want my produce bags tied I am fully capable of tying them myself. However, they always have plenty of lines open so I'll just stand in someone else's line cuz I don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings. And just yeah... And... AND... they have this little display of fresh fruit for your kids to snack on while you shop. Now, my son is too old to actually "participate", however, there was one instance when my blood sugar was dropping low. I mean LOW. Yes. I helped myself to a cutie and, yes, it was delicious. And before any of ya'll wanna be sending me messages or leaving comments I totally offered to pay for that cutie at the register and the sweet lady totally wouldn't let me. She said she was happy to take part in saving my life. Bahahahaha! No joke. Her words. =] My review is already too long but I couldn't write one without writing about the beautiful flowers this place always has for sale. I never buy any cuz I'm on a budget but I always park in the same spot so I always enter and exit through the same doors. Just so I can catch a glimpse. They make me happy. Okay. One last thing. I would totally leave an extra star if I could. BECAUSE... they donated 40 cases of water to my son's school for their Walk A Thon. And that's kind of amazing.

Even if it's a little pricy, there are always deals with the Amazon Prime. My favorite thing to get here is the delicious cheese. So many unique & quality options. You can also get a taste if you aren't sure what to get. Amazing pairings of nuts, and fancy crackers. The best place is the Olive bar. I love all of the options. The spicy variations, the Greek olives, so many choices. Great vegetarian food in the frozen section. Salad bar for fresh food & house made food. Sushi, pizza, bakery items. I like to eat in the cute little dinning area or outside if weather permits. I almost forgot about the awesome smoothie bar when you walk in too. Not your average grocery store.

Now it's mostly stuff that sits out awhile, looks dry, and there hasn't been many options to choose from. The salad bar is also half the size it used to be, but I went and was hungry and thought - I could grab fast food OR something healthier here. SO I chose this. The meatloaf appears often and it's pretty decent - but the star of the show on this HOT bar is always the VEGGIES - all different and always prepared differently. The salad bar is still a decent option - now none of this is CHEAP, but it's fresh. I do like how you can take your food outside on the tables in the sun to eat when it's a nice day. There used to be counter stools and options inside, but those are now gone. The employees are the register are super friendly and helpful. However, I don't think the employees working in the bakery/food area are very personable. They come and fill something up, but do it sloppy and don't engage with the customer.

Carpathia Polish Deli completely MADE our Christmas Eve this year…read more I ordered just about every dish they had for Wigilia, and I honestly don't know how they do it -- every single item was better than the last. The food was unbelievably fresh, perfectly seasoned, beautifully prepared, and so authentic you could literally taste the love and effort in every bite. Nothing felt rushed, nothing felt mass-produced -- it felt like it came straight out of a Polish grandmother's kitchen. The owners and staff deserve a standing ovation. Even with the insane Christmas Eve rush, they were calm, kind, and every dish came out hot and absolutely perfect. Hands down, this is the best Polish cuisine within a 100-mile radius -- no contest. I will be ordering from Carpathia for every holiday moving forward, and I can't thank them enough for making our Christmas Eve truly unforgettable.

It's not like they're selling Bulgari jewelry or begula caviar but bring lots of cold cash to shop here because you'll need it. If you're retired or have a big family, you just might have to take out a second mortgage to stock the frig and your food pantry shopping at Carpathia, no lie. I know we've had inflation but some of their prices and the small portion sizes go well beyond that. But if you're willing to blow your paycheck on a good Polish sausage, you've arrived at the right deli but the food is very good, if you can afford it.
