The Strandhill gets 5/5 marks from me for as a 3.5 star hotel (similar to Courtyard Marriott, etc). It doesn't have the amenities of a 4-star hotel, such as a gym or a restaurant (although The Venue, a good pub/restaurant is next door) or room service etc, but it does do an outstanding job within its means of providing its guests with a comfortable and relaxing stay.
The hotel is not directly on the seafront and it's probably about a 12-minute walk into town. The lobby is minimally decorated but very clean and all the staff are genuinely polite, quick and eager to please. The rooms are a dream -- very very large, great balconies with views of the sea, spacious bathrooms with excellent water pressure and big comfortable beds. Free wifi, free parking and complimentary "continental" breakfast. "Continental" in the most self-effacing sense, this breakfast actually includes an impressive spread of cold cuts, yogurts, cereals, boiled eggs, scones, croissants, tea, coffee, juice.
We got what we wanted out of Strandhill: a moment of repose, reflection, refreshment and zero hassles. The best place to stay in this town. read more
