I have been going to this bottle depot for many many years because it is the one closest to my house. Many people have complained about them short-changing them on their bottles. Since I have read those reviews (summer 2014) I have been keeping track of my bottles that I bring in. I don't pre-count them but I just count along as the staff does their count. For the last 4-5 drop-offs that I have had since I have not noticed any problems. I do take a few stars off this review because the place could be kept a bit cleaner. I dropped off bottles this morning and my shoes were sticking to the floor and it wasn't even 10am yet. I guess they could have been super-busy and someone made a mess with their bottles but overall this place needs a good cleaning inside and out. I have been to much cleaner and nicer bottle depots. The staff don't talk much to you, or at least I haven't noticed it. They seem to be all business and focused on the work. I try to hit this place during the work day if possible. I have found that it isn't too busy during the day. Most of the time I am able to park right out front and if I wait there is a small line-up only. I think after regular work hours it can be busy. A lot of the Strathcona and area bottle pickers take their hauls here so you may see people with shopping carts and bikes full of bottles. I have never had a problem with them and I actually find them very nice to the other customers. They have let me go ahead of them a number of times. They do contribute to the mess outside though. There is often empty shopping carts outside and down the alleys. So overall I like this location for me because it is convenient and I haven't had a problem with miscounts. I do wish they would take a bit more care in the look and feel of the place. It could use some good cleaning inside and outside to bring it up to par to some of the other bottle depots around. read more

It's a bottle depot and Monday is hangover day judging by the low attendance of staff and the slowness of the ones that were here. It's dirty, it's ugly and today it wasn't very busy. But it's handy, so here we are, dumping off the bottles so we have room in the trunk for groceries. Not my favourite place but as I said, it's handy. read more

I've been coming here for 11 years because it's close to my house, but I don't really like it. I will sometimes go out of my way to "Triple H South Side Bottle Depot" to have a better experience. This staff used to laugh at me and talk about me amongst themselves. I boycotted them for over a year, upon my return, they started treating me better. (I'm a really good customer). One staffer started grilling me about my politics as he was counting my bottles. I admire his ability to multi-task, but really, I'm not there to chit chat. The floor is disgusting. The shopping cart patrons have their own rush hour twice daily. I was actually hugged by one guy as I stood in line. I was not impressed. I often feel unsafe here. I lock my car when I'm inside. I was once short changed by the cashier for $5.00, but because I snatched the cash, stuffed it into my pocket and bolted.... I did not notice until I got home. To the other 2 reviews, YES I always count my bottles when I take them in I have been ripped off too many times. As for this "Strathcona Bottle Depot", I drive there and I really have to say that we had to park down the street from the Depot as the parking lot was full off broken Glass, scrap rubbish and honestly we just got new tires for the exact same reason, nails in the tire. I mean have a bit of integridy about your business and deligate someone to simply grab a push broom and sweep up the area. It is not just a little messy it is very noticeable. It would take 1-2 hours to have 1 staff member sweep the lot. I also noticed that out of 5 full sized Garbage (Large) bags full of cans, 2 litter bottles, milk containers, ensure bottles, juice containers not once did the lady mark anything down to keep count. In other bottle depots I note that they are always marking down from switching from one size to the next and then at the end of the count they will tally up there count and thus providing you with a fairly accurate count. At Strathcona Bottle Depot they never keep count of anything, and the place looks very unclean and rubbish like. I understand it is a Bottle depot but this does not mean you don't need to keep your business clean or at least somewhat clean. Want to see a Excellent Bottle Depot go to Beverly Bottle depot, everything is digitalized and you take your ticket to a cash machine where it dispences your money and I always tip them they keep tallies of your bottles, I have never been out more than 10cents there, at stratcona I was out $6.00 once and $8.40 another time. Just my opinion and if Strathcona cleans up there business I would be more than happy to retract my comments and give them A fair chance to re-earn there review by me as everyone deserves a second chance and it only takes a few bad apples in your staff to run a place down. read more

This place is notorious for miscounting bottles by large margins. Before you arrive here, mark down the amount of bottles you have in each bag/container and count the bottles with them. The staff will rip you off at every chance they get if you aren't vigilant. read more

I have been to Strathcona Bottle Depot every week for over a year now. I find the service helpful, honest and efficient, and so far the counting of cans, accurate. The lady who is the cashier does occasionally give me the wrong amount when it comes to coins. But I am certain it is an unintentional mistake because she sometimes gave me 25 cents more or mistook a dime for a quarter and gave me less when it is the end of the day. I have been to other Bottle Depots which are a lot worse so I am not complaining, and I will continue to use their service. This is a family business. read more

turning garbage into money! what could be better! I have gone here in the past -just returned as it is close and convenient for me. Usually when winter breaks I dust off my bike and build my green activity of returning pop bottles and cans myself. I enjoy the actual recycle process and usually get 20-30 dollars to spend at the save on foods afterwards. Easter weekend I returned to recycle a big bag of bottles, I was happy they are using a computer screen to print off the total to hand in and collect $. I am sure it comes in handy for people with a truck load of bottles and cans. I found it much cleaner than before and always find the staff to be patient with all their customers. I suggest counting the hand fulls of cans as they throw your bottles in the bins behind them. They usually throw 4 bottles at a time-so you just need to count how many hand fulls and multiply by 4 to get a good estimate. They have usually been right. Good for the planet, and always an interesting time when you consider the back alley collectors for strathcona, whyte ave all come here to turn their hard efforts into some spending money. read more

I think the place is under different management because I had a better experience in the past. The place is a dump, the bottle counters are unfriendly, and I have a feeling I got ripped off my deposit refund. I had a much better experience at other bottle depots around the city. Be cautious when you head to this one. read more

This place is a rip-off. I arrived with all my beer bottles in their proper boxes (of 6 or 12), but was motioned to dump everything on the counter so they could be counted....in the end, not surprisingly, the final tallie of bottles (done in the clerk's head and scribbled on a paper) was considerably less than I had brought in and not even a multiple of 6! Communicating/arguing with the clerk about the discrepency was impossible because he didn't speak English. I guess the solution (if I ever go back) is to only take small amounts of bottles at any one time so you know in advance exactly how much you should get back. read more

these guys rip you off all the time I look at my amount of bottles and when I got to the till they do not add up all the amounts that happened to me twice now the first time I was unsure but the next time I wrote the amount down before the till I copied the amounts and sure enough they did it again. I will never go there again these guys should not run a bottle depot the rip off artists. read more

This site says you are open until 6pm I WALKED all the way there yesterday and they were closed. The time was 5:45 pm . There was another customer there too who had driven there and was disappointed because had read the same post that you guys are open until 6pm. please post the appropriate store hours .
