great views, great tram ride for fans, "regular" public transport in Stuttgart!…read more Since our hotel was right on Marienplatz and since the Zacke cog railway started right from this plaza, we as railway fans couldn't resist taking a ride, especially since there was no extra charge - the Stuttgart Zacke is part of the normal city transport system! For a Sunday morning there were quite a few passengers of all sorts - mothers with baby carriages, cyclists with their bikes (there's a special open carriage for the bikes), and a few obvious tourists too like us. Although we'd have taken the tram anyway, the view alone is worth the ride with panoramas of the entire Stuttgart skyline on the way to the last stop. Our only slight disappointment - after eight stations, a bit more than 2 kilometers, and about a quarter of an hour we'd reached the top, which curiously has the word "hole" in the name ("Degerloch") although it's actually 200 meters higher than the starting point. At least we had the return trip to enjoy and also another tourist attraction for transport buffs in another part of town to look forward to: the Stuttgart cable car / Standseilbahn!

They give free water in the lobby, but unbeknownst to me they apparently have a policy that you can only use the little cups there beside the dispenser. We were promptly chewed out by a dark haired lady with her hair in a bun that we could not put our water in a bottle, but only in a cup. I promptly told her I would pour it into the cup, and from the cup into the bottle. It's attitudes like that Frausthat can spoil a whole trip. Also, why go all out for decor, and put cardboard type toilet paper in bathrooms that won't flush? From the first day it's been a problem.

Here the hotel is moder, rooms have more than enough spoace for 2, confortable beds (bed cover could be a bit larger), convenient bathroom, very quiet, free coffee (machiatto, capuccino...)/tea at the reception. The breakfast has everything you need and in quantity. Stuttgart city centre 10min away by tram (every 10min), right in front of the door. Great deal!

Highly recommended for anyone interested in automotive engineering.

Mercedes is on a different level! Literally. 4 or 5 floors, I can't remember but you take these cool little lifts to the top floor and work your way down. I love museums and especially car museums when the earliest designs are only slightly better than walking with an 8kmph top speed! The top is the early vehicles and you walk down to get what resembles a vehicle. Then as you descend, note and note recognizable vehicles. Also, kudos to both, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz for not skipping history (looking at you 30s-40s) regardless of the travesties, it's part of their history. Meanwhile the US is trying to erase their not so stellar histories. But I digress. If you love cars AND history, you could literally spend an entire day looking at the development of various MB cars, busses, engine cutaways, and more. 100% recommend if you're in Stuttgart. Bonus points for a Cars and Coffee event going on during our visit. Love seeing people living older cars and preserving history!
