I originally and prematurely left a glowing review when this shop helped me on a long weekend, but needed to rewrite it after what happened next. I dropped off replacement tires and got a call 10 minutes later asking where my car keys were... as if I had them? Both AAA and the shop itself had confirmed the car was delivered, which should have meant the keys were accounted for too. AAA's driver confirmed directly to me that he'd handed the keys to shop staff. The shop denied it anyway, blamed AAA, and I ended up driving an hour round trip to bring my spare key. When I called to check in, I was met by a new associate with condescension, not urgency. When my car was finally done, there was no apology, no discount or effort to replace my keys, and no acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong. Six weeks later, they emailed to say they'd found my missing keys. When I arrived the keys were labeled "left behind." I did not leave my keys behind. They lost them and then acted like I was the careless one. I replaced my extra key weeks prior, which cost more than the actual service to my car. 18 years of going to auto shops and I've never had a mistake handled with this much denial and this little accountability. A simple apology and some effort to rectify to the situation would have been more than enough for me as I know accidents happen. I am incredibly disappointed and will not be back. read more

I had a positive experience with Stress-Free Auto Care. I was having trouble with my car starting - I suspected a battery issue but wasn't exactly sure. I initially booked an appointment for a electrical system inspection, but after a quick initial check of my car, the Service Advisor suggested just opting for a battery replacement. This saved me time & money, since I otherwise would have needed to pay for both the inspection & replacement. I dropped my car off in the morning and took advantage of the courtesy rideshare. In the afternoon, my car was ready to go. During the free multi-point inspection, they found a potential issue but did not pressure me to fix it, which I appreciate. The prices for the replacement battery & labor seemed reasonable. And throughout the process, the service was friendly & informative. I would return in the future. read more

Extremely easy to make appointments online, easy drop off as well. Came for an oil change and tire rotation deal for $79.99. Stress-free. Took off one star because I was told my oil change and tire rotation would take 1-1.5 hour, but it turned out to be 2.5 hour with only an oil change. They did not rotate my tires because my back wheels were already the good wheels. David at the front desk provided exceptional service and was very knowledgeable 5/5! Kept me company while I waited for my maintenance. He taught me a few things about car maintenance in general as well which I appreciated. My oil change turned out to be 2.5 hours instead because I made an 11:30am appointment and it coincided with the tech's lunch time. I suggest avoiding an appointment around lunch time hours if you want to reduce your risk of any potential delays. David was honest and apologized for the delay, which I appreciated. read more

Coordinated an appointment for 11am, showed up 10 minutes early, for a model x, with n2itive rear control/toe arms, which they said they can do. They neither were able to fit me in nor could they guarantee they could do an alignment to spec. First time trying a "Stress free auto care" and will be my last. Try to avoid this unless you like to have "stress" for a fee. Response to Wes' comment below that the shop replied that they couldn't fit me in before I arrived. The yelp message they sent me at 9am said they could accommodate me as soon as "11am today", i replied that should work. Left my house at 10:45am, arrived at their shop at 10:54am. The reply over yelp came at 10:51am stating they were full for the day. The person at the front desk at the shop said that "stress free auto" uses a call center that doesn't communicate with their shop directly, and this happens quite often, furthermore he mentioned they had a "C level" tech in and even if he fit me in they could not guarantee the alignment would be done to spec. Based on Wes' reply, it is evident that there are some systematic issues with the way this business is run. read more

This shop has very bad customer service and they also do unnecessary work to make more money. Also, they're even more expensive than a dealership. This service advisor Wes is very rude, liar and unethical. On a previous visit, he did work on our VW Jetta which was not required but he lied about it as we eventually found out from two other mechanics who confirmed that the work was not necessary. The other day, I went there as we decided to give them another chance and talked to this same person Wes who was very rude as ususal. So, I left the shop and will never go back there again. All these good reviews that they have are definitely fake reviews. read more

I have had my car in the shop 3x this past month. First for a dying auxiliary battery, another time for a passenger light that went out and then rear brakes. I couldn't speak more highly of @Stress-free Auto care. The funniest things about them matter: *They took me seriously when I self-diagnose my car and said it was an auxiliary battery issue. ( all the other shops insisted they had to be the one to diagnose it ) *They were in live communication with me every step of the way including text. *They had like an airport size display of every car in the shop including mine with 8-10 milestone points of repair. *They had a CAR VIDEO CAM that let me watch my car being fixed. ( I call it Car-daycare ) *They sent me home in a Lyft every time. *They had coupons and discounts for my every purchase. I attempted to fix my car in 2 shops ( since I live in both in Santa Cruz and Mountain View ) and the other one that came with wonderful Yelp reviews actually quoted me a more expensive price for the work I was doing despite the cheaper hourly, could not find the parts ( despite calling all of Santa Cruz ) and did not call me I had to call them. At this stage in my life, I am learning to treasure time and ease as an important commodity in my life. The days of cutting coupons are over even if money is hard earned these days. You've got a great jingle, good reviews, and a slick booking system -- but when I talked to an agent, they kept trying to upsell me on a transmission fluid change without giving me a clear price. Then they kept me on hold for 30 minutes when I asked about matching a Groupon. I ended up going to Oil Changers instead -- they gave me a straight quote up front and were $100 cheaper. If you call yourself "Stress-Free," don't make me stress more. read more

IT'S TRULY STRESS FREE! I drive a salvage Toyota Corolla which has been giving me lots of problems. This time it was the check engine light. I found this place on Google and immediately LOVED their jingle which already put me in a better mood. The service rep was super nice, I believe his name was David. I explained to him what was going on, he listened and took me seriously. I brought up other concerns I had with the vehicle and he was able to make time for me the very next day during the busy holiday season. I love how attentive and communicative they are. They call and/or text. They don't try to upsell you or charge you extra for their services. David was very transparent and answered my questions honestly. I like how they send you a report of your car with pictures of things that are critically important, urgently, or good to go. It helped me decide what I wanted to turn my attention to and fix. They will not start or do any repairs to your car without your permission. Wes, the manager, was very nice as well and made my car pick-up process easy! Overall would come to again! I am updating my review since GMS Independent shop specializing in German autos (hence, German Motor Specialist) was taken over by a generalist "Stress-Free" Auto care, they are no longer the same indy shop I trusted. Previously I was willing to pay higher cost and drive the distance for the quality of service and personal touch of the service reps with appreciation of my old car, and deep and specialized knowledge of BMWs (they're a bit quirky. you don't know somethign trivial is very important for bimmers until you take it to a generalist shop and make a mess of things). But unlike when it was GMS, all what I consider personal touch is gone. Stress-Free no longer allow customers to bring in OE or custom parts for installation, give contradictory info on what service they do or do not provide at the site, and unwilling to give any ball-park/budgeting price quote over the phone. If I ask, all the central dispatch rep does (the phone number that used to dial direct to the Mtn View site no longer works) is no longer "personal" but only to parrot back "$280 to bring in and diagnose first". Even if I know exactly what needs to be done (change gasket for the engine valve cover due to oil leak, etc) and want a general range of the cost, all is told is "pay for $280 diagnostics until then we're not saying anything". Does it hurt to even state "if it's just xxx, it will range $yyy - $zzz, but YMMV". Even for a longtime customer, I was treated like any new customer with no history with them. Before Stress-Free takeover, this was a stellar and my go-to repair shop for my BMW and have been going to them since 2002. However, now that I am living farther away, all the original service agents who I have been working with for decades is no longer there, and with only the large corporation stock response, I am no longer willing to deal with the inconvenience. The worst My car was the first one there at 8am They called me at 3:36pm saying my car was ready . They weren't able to detect the problem with my car . They did however give me a $4000-$5000 quote for what my car needed . After requesting just an oil change , they held off for two hours because I didn't confirm through text . I have consistently had a very good experience here over the past 3 years. This time I went in to solve the mystery of why my car hesitated to start at random times. They had recently serviced the car for the same issue, so did a free and very thorough diagnostic. They found that the battery which had been newly installed was not keeping its charge as well as it should have, so they replaced it with an Audi battery for free. But the really interesting thing was that their diagnosis picked up the presence of a second key fob that seemed to have a low battery in it (!) Sure enough, I had recently placed my second key inside the car. Because the car has to identify the existence of a key before starting, it sometimes was linking to the key with the weak battery, and this was affecting the car's ability to start up. They replaced the key fob battery and the problem has gone away. They were honest about the car battery situation even after discovering the key fob issue, and of course left the new Audi battery in since the other battery was not performing to their standards. I appreciate the honest and willing approach to their service, and always feel that I will get their best effort and expertise in keeping my older car safe and well maintained. read more

I recently visited Stress-Free Auto Care for a slow-leak in my Chrysler Pacifica rear-driver tire. Ross assisted me with the initial check-in, quick inspection for any nail-like object and comparison across various options for tire replacement. Unfortunately in my case, the nail was very close to side thread and so required replacement of both rear tires. I was very pleased with the service, they returned the vehicle same-day, the overall price/quote (660 inclusive of labor/tax for Michelin Defenders 2) was very competitive and the communication was prompt when they identified the issue. Added plus was free multi-point inspection and they also noticed engine-light and communicated about the same. I also get free tire rotation for this vehicle in the future (similar to Costco, but better quality service). I highly recommend their service and definitely plan to return for my future auto needs. read more

From start to finish I was happy with the care from the team. I started with a quote on yelp and moved to booking an appointment with the team. I had initially booked my appt at a further location, but with a quick call I was able to change it to the MV location. David was very helpful along with the rest of the staff. I came here to get work done that the dealership was way over charging for - and I appreciate the team for being honest about their pricing. During my service I had more problems found with my car but the summary helped me determine how to proceed with repairs. I have already referred someone to this shop and I'll be back in the future!
