Unexpected side effects. (read on!) I was diagnosed with Acid reflux/GERD over 12 years ago. It has been a long journey. That journey included several different medications, increased dosages, all of which were temporary. They never resolved, only postponed. I then tried more natural remedies. I tried herbal teas, different forms of greens (powders, smoothies, etc), and supplements. In conjunction with avoiding certain foods, my reflux symptoms would resolve, however, only temporarily. Strong on health has been so great for my daughter and I. We were referred by Mansfield Chiropractic as well, and we're skeptical at first, but were open to new methods of medicine. We wanted to focus on my daughter's low T cells, (which affect her immune system.) We also wanted to get off my thyroid medicine, which I felt wasn't working too, as well as fertility issues. I started taking some supplements and giving some to my daughter just to balance things out, as well as watch our sugar intake. GERD/Acid Reflux/Heartburn/Leaky Gut/Kink in Esophagus...ALL GONE!!! Let me start by saying that I am not what most of the country would consider an unhealthy person. I'm 38 years old, 5'10", weigh 160 lbs, and workout 4-6 times a week. I have never been a "big dude" but I've struggled with heartburn my whole life. I was popping Rolaids like candy by the time I was 10 years of age. By my mid thirties, I would have to take FIVE Nexium every single morning in order to be able to sleep at night without a horrible burning sensation. If I forgot to take my Nexium more than 2 days in a row, I'd have to sleep at almost a 90 degree angle; I'd basically sleep sitting straight up. Otherwise, the heartburn would be unbearable. Three years ago I began eating mostly healthy foods. I'd cheat on the weekends but during the week I was fairly strict: no processed foods, all organic chicken, rice, veggies, and fruit. Still, after three years, when I'd have a cheat meal after 5 pm on a weekend, I'd have heartburn, reflux, and my abdomen would feel like it was about to burst (I'm guessing my gut was leaking gas...it wasn't like I was eating giant meals). My Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) was weak and wasn't closing. This was causing the contents of my stomach to pour back into my esophagus. I think my body tried to create a second "stop" to reflux by putting a kink in my esophagus. The reason I say this is because when I would swallow food, I could feel the food as it traveled down my esophagus and it would stop 3 or 4 inches above my stomach. Eating breakfast, I could actually feel food lodge there for usually 5-10 seconds (and on occasion it would lodge there over a minute, making it very difficult to breathe) before my esophagus muscles would relax and let the food pass through. Fast forward to April of this year and my wife found Dustin at Strong on Health. He gave me some supplements to strengthen my LES and to resolve my gut issues. He informed me that in 30 days or so, my LES would be functioning properly on its own, that my stomach would be back to producing the appropriate amount of stomach acid, and that my leaky gut symptoms would be a thing of the past. My 30 days ended a couple of weeks ago and he was completely correct. I no longer suffer from any symptoms of GERD/acid reflux, heartburn, leaky gut, and my LES closes all by itself. The "kink" in my esophagus is also gone. I can swallow food without feeling it stop in my esophagus on its way down. I can sleep flat on my back at night. Even when I was taking Nexium, I'd hear gases gurgling up from my stomach about once every two seconds when I'd lay down at night. I wasn't really very impressed. They were kind, and the facility is nice. However, I feel that $300 for them to give me - well charge me another $40 - for a bottle of herbs and a generic eating plan, was WAY too much. Dr. Strong wanted me to come back in a month and charge another $150 for a 25 minute follow-up. Way too much money - not a good value. I was told to stay away from eggs, which I was eating every single day, and when I asked what I could replace them with, he really didn't give me any answer. Not good enough. I feel that I wasted money. I would have happily paid $100 for the little information that I got, but certainly not $300, plus two separate trips out to the office. I have been going to see Dr. Dustin Strong for a year or more. He was able to help me get my migraines and depression under control by helping me to make better choices with food and supplements. I was able to get off all medication and could control them both by what I ate and drank. I was a true believer of Dr. Google and followed the regime of food habits through my online research, few trial and errors I end up hitting a shot of what works best for me and I continued my research digging in vitamins, minerals, herbal combinations with no/relatively fewer side effects.
