Wow I think I found my favorite malt beer at this brewery! It's called Decapitator. Please always keep it on your lineup! Strong. You only need 1-2 to feel relaxed. :) The beer prices are great too. The vibe here is great, with a lot of seating options and card + board games to keep you occupied. Dog friendly as well! I was able to get a bowl of water for my little one. Nice views of the water too if you prefer to sit outside. I like how it is bring your own food. I saw a small group having a little birthday party and they had pizza and a cake that they brought. I went to the Food Bazaar grocery a block or two away and got a sandwich from their deli to bring to the brewery. Next door is a cidery, I think a different owner. Outrageously expensive ($17 for a small glass of cider? lol). Stick to strong rope! They do have a cider or two on their menu normally. 2 minutes away is Steve's Key Lime Pie - recommend if you like frozen key lime pies on a stick dipped in chocolate ;) read more

Strong Rope Brewery was a fantastic find. We stumbled in on a cold December afternoon and immediately loved the vibe. Sitting right on the water, this place clearly shines year-round, but it is easy to imagine how great it would be in warmer weather posted up outside by the river. Seating is well thought out, a mix of outdoor and indoor picnic tables along with traditional tables and chairs, so it works for everyone. If it had been warmer, we definitely would have been outside. Inside, the decor is playful and welcoming, with quirky wall art, a great keg wall, and clear views into the working brewery. The beer lineup was solid across the board. I had their Pubkin beer, which was a pleasant surprise, and my wife enjoyed a hot toddy that hit perfectly on a cold day. We stayed for a couple of drinks before heading to a nearby reservation, and it was the perfect afternoon break between distillery hopping. Prices were very reasonable, and the biereria taco truck outside made grabbing food easy without breaking the flow. Friendly for both locals and visitors alike. If you are in this part of town, it is absolutely worth the stop. read more

Strong rope brewery is one of my summer go to spots. It is the perfect place for sunset! Strong ropes beers are great, I usually got for their IPAs which are hoppy and great. They also do drink specials with liquor for a frozen summer special. Service is fast even when the line is long. All ages are welcome here. In the extremely unlikely event that you're reading on May 11 this early enough to get to the last day of the Swamp in the City fest at Strong Rope, you should check it out (pay what you wish, $40 suggested). SitC doesn't have its own Yelp listing, but Strong Rope is an outstanding venue for this unique Louisiana music showcase. The spacious waterfront location is unparalleled. The outdoor park is the hook but the stage is viewable from an indoor section. I was delighted to find out about the adjacent Red Hook Cidery, I have no idea if it's a pop-up or permanent. Geography notes: Red Hook can seem dauntingly far but it's not that bad if the buses are working well. The ferry is far more glamorous but for speed the B61 that connects to several trains might work better. read more

I love Strong Rope. I've been here for music festivals, for birthday parties, for private event buyouts...but most often, just for a regular good time. This past weekend, we had a rare 60 degree day (for March 1), and everyone had the same idea: let's go drink beer by the water in Red Hook. It was packed, and with good reason. We ran into some friends, had a great time, and by the time we left, people almost killed each other to take our table...so get there early. They have all the beer, and it's tasty. I love the Pub Ale and the Liberty Gold if I just want a beer beer, the dark mild nut brown esque "A Mild Journey", the delicious berry sour they have on special right now, the dry cider, and more. I have friends that swear by the Hazy IPA, but that's not my bag, baby. They also have wine in cans, spirits, and more. If drinking beer makes you hungry, Strong Rope has Empanada Papa slangin' excellent empanadas by the door (sometimes a truck of some kind out back), but they also don't mind if you bring in any other kind of food you'd like. You can also bring babies and/or kids. I didn't want to bring mine, but I think it's frowned upon to leave small children home alone. read more

Went to visit Red Hook and this was the first stop I made. They have a nice outdoor area by the water and have board games available. I had one beer and it was good. They are right next to a Cidery so if you don't like beer you can get cider. Overall it was a nice brewery and if I'm in the area again I would stop by and get another beer. read more

Great place with lots of fun seating and a bookshop on an honor system, tasty beers, insiders, and dogs are allowed and not just service animals, and they had a pop-up for Korean kimchi barbecue meat on skewers. This is a great area. This is a beautiful place in red Hook right off the water and you can see views of the Statue of Liberty and you'll see boats going around and you'll feel the breeze and there are lots of wineries and insider places and Even a glass making store. You'll see old historic buildings where it looks like you have a carriage house and barn doors, which are very beautiful and characteristic and coupled with modern windows. It has a really nice feel to it. The chef for the Asian pop up Olivia was great and his food yummy! The kimchi was better than what I could make...The kimchi ($3) with galbi ($6) and pork belly ($5) on a stick along w the flight of beer for 4 ($18) was very good. This place can get BUSY so try and get there kind of early to grab a table outside or inside. Thankfully they have a food truck right outside and typically have a vendor inside as well. Place is also pretty big and there are several events going on at once. For example they have a mini library section where you can Venmo the author money for books on a shelf. read more

This place is everything a brewery should be. Live music? Check. Table games? Check. Well priced beer list with lots of variety including seasonal favorites? Check. Friendly service? Check. But the real reason you're here is for the views. One of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen was here at Strong Rope Brewery. I'm not one to clap for a sunset but if I were, this would be the one. If you're looking for a romantic date spot, this is it. The line to order here did get pretty intense on the Sunday afternoon that I spent here, but it moved incredibly quickly and was all in all pretty painless. If you're not sure what to order, bartenders are accommodating with samples, and don't rush you to make a decision (despite the line...which may actually be what caused the line now that I think about it...). Also, the Red Hook Lobster truck was parked outside for the folks that were hungry. Anyway, my Pilsner was fresh and crisp, vibes were immaculate. Will be back again. Highly recommend! read more

Because it was so busy, there was a long line just to order drinks, which deterred us from ordering a second round. Very nice bar in terms of aesthetics and location. Not sure if their staff was having an off night or just didn't like my face but they were pretty rude and dismissive when asked questions about what beer was being served for the event. (It was for an event and printed on tiny pamphlet) The place looks nice but they didn't invest in good AC and it felt like a men's locker room in the September's heat. It was not alleviated by what was room or maybe slightly below room temperature beer I ended up receiving. A nicer staff and some AC would do this place wonders. read more

Decent brewery in Red Hook, with a phenomenal waterfront location. Very spacious interior with plenty of tables, and there's also a dog-friendly outdoor seating with great views of the water. Be warned, however, that the outdoor area doesn't have great drainage - one day after rainfall, and a fair bit of the outdoor area was occupied by a giant puddle. I only tried the pilsner during my visit, and it was okay. But they do have good variety, so I wouldn't mind trying some of their other beers. Be prepared for a surprisingly long line for a local brewery. It took me about 15 minutes of waiting just to close my tab at the end of the evening. Not the most efficient setup, unfortunately. But still a good spot for a summer's evening with nice views and some brews. read more

Really stopped in here because we were in the area and it was one million degrees. Was not expecting to love it. The beer menu is meh, a few things for everyone but not a ton of variety. It's also PRETTY expensive. Can't elaborate on how much the beers are, as there are no prices no the menu (why?), but the beer I got was $10. And it was a really mid-level IPA. The space itself is fascinating. You can see Lady Liberty, but you won't get a good picture with her from here (too far). The line is so so long, but it ends up being maybe 5 minutes. What is longer, however, is the bathroom line, which is prohibitively long. In the end, it's a refreshing option to sit by the water. But, you'll probably stand and sweat waiting for a table. read more

A food truck was there when we visited with awesome tacos and such, I think they normally have food trucks there which is good because there's no other food in the near vicinity. Gorgeous location!!! For an industrial area it was a beacon of joy. Great beer and cider, too. First time in Red Hook and you couldn't have asked for a more ideal evening. We walked over the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan, and decided to keep walking all the way to the brewery. It was a beautiful day for it. I chose this spot for its waterfront location, but everything about this experience was worthy. We got lost trying to find it, ended up in a coffee roasting warehouse in the building next door. Interesting finds, while taking wrong turns, are always welcome. The man roasting beans guided us in the right direction. Made it to Strong Rope and the vibe was just right. Live music, families, dogs, indoor & outdoor seating, views of Governors Island & the Statue of Liberty. We walked right up to the counter, and after a short wait, placed our orders. I got a cider and the guys tried beers. We took them out to the picnic tables since the weather was cooperating. Not too cold to stay for a while. All the drinks were tasty. Enjoyed while sipping and chatting, people and dog watching. And what a perfect sunset spot! We watched the sky change from light blue to many shades of coral, till the sun dropped below the horizon. Then it got cold so we went in. A friendly guy named Gabe was starting trivia so we gave that a go. I loved seeing such a kid, family, pet friendly spot with solid drink options. There was a BBQ pop up in the back if you're hungry. Everyone was having a good time. It truly was a feel good experience. Even if the weather wasn't as glorious as today, the bustling interior would lift anyone's mood. The doors to get out back to the waterfront and into the bathroom in the rear room were tricky so beware. There are other bathrooms alongside the beer counter. Use those. Also, getting here takes some logistical planning since the subway's a bit far. The F TRAIN is about a 23 minute walk. If youre trying to catch the Red Hook ferry back to the city, check your return time before committing to another drink or trivia. I Highly recommend putting this location on your must do list. This is the biggest draw here IMO + Very spacious indoors and fairly spacious outdoors + Decent selection of beers, everything is like $9 on avg to memory The main kicker for me is that it's not super accessible. You're best off using Citibike, the bus, or car as it's a 30ish min walk from the 9 St/Smith St subway. Nonetheless, the summer time vibes are amazing and worth a trek at least once here. read more

Great views. $8 brews. It's dog and kid friendly and they mean it and people fall into it. So don't go if you think pups and kids will be in carriers. But folks only brought ones that would not cause a stir and for that I'm grateful. They had a DJ on the Saturday Eve I went but it was more for vibes then actual dancing. I love staring at Lady Liberty from Brooklyn so bring a visitor or friend and make it an afternoon of conversation. Tip: they had a food pop up vendor. It may have been grey outside but the vibes inside were immensely warm and inviting. A live DJ and a hotdog vendor. Games galore. If you like waiting in long lines, Strong Rope Brewery is for you! Long line to order a drink, long line to use the bathroom, a long wait to find a seat... they've got it all! I don't fall in that camp, so this spot may not be for me, but the beer is pretty good and the views are nice (waterfront location with unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty, Staten Island, and NJ). The vibe is chill and family friendly (lots of kids and dogs). The location on the water gives it a breezy vacation feel. I wouldn't boycott this place but I'm not going to be rushing back either. read more

A short walk from the ferry Strong Rope's new location has fantastic views of the water and of the Statue of Liberty. The inside space is welcoming with plenty of seating. Sam, Greg, Megan, and I decided to sit outside and enjoy the oddly cool summer day and take in the views. I'm a huge fan of Strong Rope beer already. Been to their President Street location a handful of times. This new location is spectacular. It's huge. Tons of indoor space. Tons of outdoor seating. Great venue. The kicker? Peer outside and you've got a glorious waterfront view of the Statue of Liberty. History, beer, and of course good vibes all in one spot. They've got a secluded spot for music. Several gender neutral restrooms with exterior sinks so you don't need to wait for someone using a toilet to use a seat. There's seating for big groups, small groups, humongous ones, couples, and solos. They got two long bike rakes plus theres makeshift space to local up bikes along the barricade to the waterfront. In summary, the venue is perfect. Very thoughtfully designed. And as I mentioned at the beginning, I'm a huge fan of their beer. read more
