We initially were quoted $150 for a 6 hour block with a $75 deposit. 2 months later the owner contacted me asking for $500. As an indie, out of town band on tour wanting to book time to do a small rehearsal/showcase we feel like they have really tried to take advantage of us. We had a specific understanding of what the cost of the space would be, but then they tried to bully us into paying more - their reasoning was that it took extra time for us to load our van, even though our equipment was out of the studio space for hours as we had to navigate a humongous rave style party during our load out. Full list of issues -- 1. When we arrived, there was a huge party setting up in the surrounding facility. This wasn't that big of a deal, but it did cause a significant delay to our own load in process as we had to work around the setup that was happening. 2. When we loaded out, this full rave style party was in full swing. Again, no big deal but any safe method of transferring gear from a loading dock to the ground was removed. We had to carefully maneuver 100+ lb loads of gear without any stairs or ramps, putting us at significant risk (as well avoiding the crowds of people and making sure all of our gear was accounted for). We had to take our time to meticulously load our gear as to not cause damage to the equipment or harm to ourselves. In all, it took 2-3 hours to load out and pack our gear because of this. 3. The PA that they provided us with was old and falling apart. Many dead channels on their mixing board and at least 3 blown speakers made for a harrowing sound. If we didn't supplement with our own speakers it would have been a complete loss. For the owner to come back and try to charge us for the time it took us to load our gear out really put a bad taste in our mouth. They tried to overcharge us by 2-3x the original amount quoted. We don't recommend that any other band use this rehearsal space. Stay away! read more

DJ has made a lot of improvements, and it's a great place for regular or occasional rehearsals. The parking/load in area is gritty with a little outside sitting area, and the rooms I've been in sound great. I don't have anything else to compare it to, but I think it's the tits! He's very professional, and a charm to deal with. read more

DJ and his wife, bent over backwards to make sure that we have a good experience. We found this studio online, when looking for rehearsal space for South African singer Simphiwe Dana, who performed at Essence 2013. The room was large and comfortable, and well equipped. Like I said DJ and his wife gave us complete Southern Hospitality. They made sure that we were satisfied and provided us with a nice array of snacks and drinks, and the homemade lemonade was THE BOMB. Its great when you discover little gems like Studio 101 NOLA, they made the South Africans and Yankees, feel right at home. This is definitely our new rehearsal home whenever we are in Nawlins! read more

Awesome rehearsal studio - the equipment is really solid. Easily the cleanest, most well-kept rehearsal space I've been to, complete with water and towels for all the players. DJ ran a great session, able to accomodate the needs of 3 vocalists, all with different in-ear monitor feeds, plus individual wedges for the rest of the band. Just a warning - it's a bit hard to find in a warehouse district just outside of downtown. Our cabbie was reluctant to leave us! Look for the "American Beauty - Everyone Loves A Good Egg" sign. read more

Great sound quality! DJ is a helpful engineer who will work with you to get what you need. We did a lot of VO work and then a little music, and he was able to transition equipment set-up very quickly. Will definitely be recording here again! read more

Great place. We had a fantastic time there Very good rehearsal spot. Room for improvement: Need better signage to direct people to the spot. Gates were closed, making place look off limits. On the good side: Great studio setup. Multiple rehearsal spaces. Can accommodate small acoustic acts or large electric/ horns/ etc acts. Also outdoor rehearsal area. Nice courtyard outback. Owned by husband and wife D.j. and Ashley Boudreaux, Studio 101 NOLA is truly an incredible recording and rehearsal facility for both musicians and filmmakers alike. With state of the art equipment, the relaxing, yet inspiring, creative space proved to be invaluable to Flittermouse Films as we worked with sound engineer Derek Jude Fogarty of D I Y, Inc. to complete post-production of our first feature film, "Rules We Live By". More than willing to open Studio 101's doors for us any time at all, Flittermouse Films could not have accomplished what we have accomplished, and what we continue to accomplish, with our film without the unwavering support and generosity of the Boudreauxs.
