The salon is respectful of your time and does not double and or triple book their stylists so you are able to get in and out within a reasonable amount of time, receive quality service and not feel ignored or rushed. There have been times when stylists have moved on and the front desk staff made every effort to ensure I was paired with a stylist who specialized in working with curly hair. The owners have worked hard to provide an upscale and relaxed experience that is consistent. The salon is clean, calming and soothing without the threat of children / pets destroying the environment. Please be aware before booking your appointment - Salon L is not a daycare center so if you're asked to remove a disruptive situation, please understand the request - as I personally don't want to be forced to endure the pain. I also am a person color and have never faced discrimination or racism while visiting this establishment. That's my two cents...

I was a new client, they did not know my hair, and had scheduled maybe at least 8+ clients while I was getting my hair cut and colored. I was nervous when the assistant kept checking my foils and didn't know where to start with the removal of the foils - not a good sign. I didn't get my hair blown out, because I was afraid of the cost, as I'm pretty sure it's NOT included in the price of a haircut. So, when I get home, I realized my hair was butchered. The highlights were bright yellow and orange, and crooked all over my head. There were some spots with huge chunks and then other areas were the high light looked like it had slipped mid-process. I quickly contacted the scheduler, since for some reason that's the only way to reach Mackezie, and was told I probably just "need a toner and that's the main issue, as for the placement of the highlights, she feels there's no issue." The highlights were absolutely the main issue. The timing of my foils was obviously not calculated correctly, it looked like foils were quite literally slipping from my hair and taken off way too early. It looked like I had gotten it done months ago and it grew out. I don't know if it was a error because they overbooked and couldn't focus on the timing correctly, but it's a shame because it cost me over $600++, not including what I had to pay to go to another salon to have it corrected.

Trinh is very quick, seemingly implusive with her "snipping", THEN she says, "I have to check my cut." More snipping. I didn't feel Trinh was focused on my haircut, frequently responding to conversations going on with other staff. I paid $120 for a Deva cut - my hair is fine and a bit thin, so I was charged the lowest price for the Deva cut. Trinh said "my haircuts last for 4 months." I can see why. It will take 4 months for my hair to grow to a length that I like. Trinh was very nice and took a lot of time teaching me how to use Deva products and was constantly "checking the cut" but kept on snipping. In the past, I have often left with a Deva cut that was frizzy. My hair was not frizzy when I left the salon. That's the best I can say about my experience and that the shampoo assistant did a very nice job.

Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. He took his time cutting my hair dry, then shampooing and conditioning it, blowing it out and finishing the cut when dry and blown out. I appreciated her explanation about the oil she applied, and why she braided my hair differently from my previous stylist, which would put less tension on my hair.
