    Half of a super Italiano

I've always heard good things about Submarine Center. Finally, got a chance to try it out tonight. When I saw the super on the menu. I thought it was be a huge size. For $17.xx, definitely not worth the price. They only have French bread. Take out only. No seating available.

Amazing sandwich! Well well well, Finally I had the privilege to try this place today after living in the city for almost 9 years. They only make their sandwiches with one kind of bread, the good French roll chewy kind of bread. Simple not complicated. I've had the super hot pastrami with everything. The only less than perfect thing for me is the Super sandwich is comparable to regular size sandwich at many other sandwich shops in the city. They offer three size: Mini, Center, Super. Service was friendly and efficient, I can tell this is one of a neighborhood favorite. Ambiance was clean, simple, bright corner shop and right next to the West Portal Station. I love West Portal neighborhood and now even more after I tasted a sandwich from Submarine Center.

It's been years since we've eaten a submarine center sandwich! But it was memorable enough to try them again on a rainy, Friday afternoon. It was quiet and only a few others waiting for their sandwich, so we were first in line. Just too bad they no longer have tables and chairs. So we had to take them to go. ***OUR PICKS*** THE ATOMIC ~ hot pastrami, turkey, cheese, corned beef, jalapeños, mustard, mayo, onions. Lettuce, tomatoes, & special sauce. My guy tried this and actually liked the hot pastrami by itself instead. I think I tasted the turkey more than the hot pastrami or corned beef. I liked my sandwich better too. But if you're a turkey fan, then maybe this sandwich is for you! 4/5 HOT PASTRAMI ~ I had this and enjoyed it! I think the special sauce (possibly Italian salad dressing) makes the sandwich taste better. The tartness lessens the saltiness from the meat and makes it pleasant to eat! 4/5 There's no choice but one type of bread, French bread. Now, they toast this bread perfectly that it's crispy on the outside, yet chewy on the inside! That made their sandwiches memorable for us and it's still the same after all these years! I would like a place to eat the sandwich though. Obviously, a freshly made sandwich tastes better than one that's been sitting for 15 minutes, especially toasted and sauced up! We found a near by bench and ate it a few minutes after it was made. Here's to hoping one day they'll have seats again.

Hot Pastrami: tender brisket that was falling from the side of the sandwich , half of the fillings was meat so they do not skimp out. It was also not salty. there are 3 sizes for the sandwiches: Mini, Center, Super. There are 2 lines: 1 for ordering on the left of the store and 1 for pickup on the right Chips and drinks are available with limited selection. Order came out within 5-10 minutes. Sports memorabilia hung on the wall from the championship eras give its character. Parking can be tricky in the area as it is high traffic.

Ordered the large pastrami sandwich and the Italian to go! Delicious like I remembered it. Decent amount of meat vs veggies vs sauce. Bread was perfectly toasted. A bit pricey but hey everything is expensive these days. Picked up the sandwich on a Wednesday around 11:30 am, no line, quick pay and go.

Sandwiches are always a hit never a miss here. I usually get the super roast beef sub or the atomic with jalapeños, pastrami, turkey, corned beef, cheese. Pastrami is my family's fav. The bread is a toasted roll light and crispy and served with Italian dressing. I would never get anything smaller than a super! This place is family owned and they are always friendly fast and consistent. They don't need my endorsement. They are legendary. The shop is small but mighty. They used to have a really good split pea soup. I know not everyone's jam it was mine. Sad they don't serve it anymore. I've been coming here since I was in high school!! Do yourself a favor and order a sandwich from Sub Center. I'm telling you as a friend. You will be taking a bite into your future. Outlook is good!!!

I was craving a pastrami and found this place was within biking distance so I went out and ordered ahead on doordash for pick up. It was ready by the time I got there. The pastrami sandwich was good and juicy though it's not a traditional pastrami I had in mind, I'd still come back for this. But is a sandwich really $17 these days?

Bookmarked this spot since forever, and finally got to take it off the list. A gem for takeout sandwiches! The menu's huge, with three sandwich sizes to choose from, and the subs are generously filled. I got the veggie with avocado, cheese, and cucumber--fresh, flavorful, and made even better with their tasty secret sauce. My husband had the meatball and loved it. The bread is soft and fresh, which really pulls it all together.

Wow, where have you been all my life? I've heard so many great things about this place but never tried. Now I regret all the wasted years and money on other over hyped places. Hubby ordered the hot pastrami- super and I got the avocado, Turkey and Swiss mini and it was perfection! Normally other spots give you so little meat and too much bread. Not this place. It's in reverse and yay! We ordered through Door Dash pickup so fast service. Clean area. Not too many spots to eat in so I recommend ordering takeout and find a nice sunny spot to inhale the sandwich with chips preferably and a side of potato salad. Then wash it down with an ice cold Diet Coke! Potato salad was good too. Perfect amount of dill. My new/old fav sandwich spot!

this is by far one of the best sandwich spots in the bay. when we received our order, it was rlly warm which i love. freshly made out of the oven! the bread was pretty soft today but I would mention last time we came, our bread was very hard. but it's okay because today changed my whole perspective about the sandwiches. all the ingredients were really yummy. service was great! it's a nice little to-go spot that's rlly convenient and tasty!

Best sub of my life! Only regret I have is not going here sooner. The subs here are perfectly toasted and 10/10 ratio of ingredients. Do your stomach a favor a get lunch here today :)

I had passed by it countless times on my bike ride to work without giving it a second thought -- until a co-worker suggested we stop in for lunch. That single visit changed everything. What I found was not just convenience, but quality. The menu was packed with deli classics, and the vibe was laid-back and welcoming, full of regulars who clearly knew this was the spot. I went with the Hot Pastrami Sandwich, and I still think about that first bite. Made with Boar's Head Top Round Pastrami -- hand-trimmed, rich, and smoky -- it was layered generously and coated with spices that hit all the right notes. The meat had that perfect deli texture, tender yet hearty.. They clearly take pride in what they serve, and it shows in every bite. It wasn't overloaded or sloppy -- just expertly made and full of flavor, the kind of sandwich that makes you slow down and savor it. What makes New College Hill Market even more special is the atmosphere. It's that kind of neighborhood shop where the cashier greets regulars by name, and even if you're new, you feel like you belong. The store may have what you need so you won't have to run to Target, Walgreens or CVS. They don't have music or a tv in the background; it's quiet and peaceful. We noticed this because it was Super Bowl Sunday and they don't have a tv, so we had to go online to check the score. *** OUR PICKS*** RIB EYE STEAK SANDWICH W/SWISS CHEESE ON DUTCH CRUNCH ~ While ordering this, I told myself, this is gonna be GREAT! I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into this sandwich! But when I took a bite, all I could taste was salt?! I'm not sure if the steak was over seasoned or the Swiss cheese made it salty from being cooked, but I've never had that happen when making a sandwich at home. Since there's no place to eat it at the store, we took it home and tried adding more lettuce and avocado to offset the saltiness, but even that didn't help. By the end of the day, I couldn't get my ring off my finger! It was swollen from the amount of salt in the sandwich because that's the only thing I ate. I drank lots of water, but I became bloated. Next time, I'll nix the cheese and order another kind of sandwich and hopefully have a better experience. 3/5 ROAST BEEF & PASTRAMI W/PROVOLONE CHEESE ON DUTCH CRUNCH ~ this was better than the steak sandwich. My guy had this one. It was salty, but it didn't overpower my tastebuds or the sandwich. I only took a bite to try. 4/5 While jalapeño peppers and pepperoncini are sour, spicy and salty, the meat shouldn't be overwhelmingly salty too then the whole sandwich wouldn't be pleasant to eat. There needs to be something bland to balance it. Now in this steak sandwich, I didn't even add jalapeños or pepperoncini. I only had pickles, onions, lettuce, tomatoes. Yet the salt cut through it all and hit me. I believe someone got overzealous with the salt shaker not realizing it was too much. Of course, the customer finds out after taking a bite! Though I think there should be some quality control in making sure it's done right. Maybe taste testing should be a thing. We may come around again and give them another shot. We really enjoyed it the first time and we were hoping for a repeat, but disappointingly, it didn't go as planned.
