With city folk hitting the hills and wanting a decent cup of coffee, I recommend the Chocolate Dragonfly for a cup on your way up or down the hill. If it's food your after, you'll see the selection on display revolves around fresh wraps and salad options plus muffins and deserts for the sweeter tooth. Although the menu doesn't often change much, visitors know that what is served is tried and tested fare favoured by the local regulars. A wrap and salad will hit you back about $8, so for around $10 you'll have a coffee and lunch in your belly, providing enough sustenance to tackle whatever it is your planning to do up in them there hills.

Open for breakfast and Lunch from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, it resides in modest but cosy 1878 colonial building, presumably first opened as a Post Office, complete with warm fireplace, multiple dining rooms and central open kitchen. The atmosphere is cosy and the staff are friendly and professional, and understand the concept of 'hospitality. The food is all and more you would hope and expect... some may say 'exquisite gourmet', others, like me "yummy, delicious and superb!" I'm not sure where Dunstan the Chef originally came from, but frankly Scarlet, it doesn't matter, because he is a passionate, dedicated Chef and a superb cook! We first accidentally arrived at the Corner Post Cafe on an outing one day, and just had a cafe latte with Dunstan's fresh home baked scones, jam and cream. Now in my time, as a leading Executive Chef having worked in some of the most prestigious establishments around the world, you can imagine, I have not only cooked a million scones, but also tasted as many. I bit into Dunstan's scone and my tastebuds were overwhelmed... in the best possibly way. They were nothing short of delicious and perfectly cooked... perfectly. We returned a few times to indulge in Dunstan's scones again, but then decided to branch out and try a lunch dish. I have to say, that was probably the best decision I made all that week. My wife and I shared one meal of a gourmet Beef, Mushroom and Burgundy Pie with salads and a side server of a delicious home made tomato chutney sauce, and a special of Salmon patties and fresh garden and potatoes salad. Well, the pie was indeed exquisite. It was constructed like something from a fairy tale, a perfectly cooked hightop puff pastry pie, with tender slow cooked beef and mushrooms in a perfectly balanced naturally thickened sauce... I mean, no starch to bulk it up, just pure natural demi glaze. The garden and potato salads were fresh, and properly cleaned and washed... one of my pet hates is restaurants that do not wash greens properly. The Salmon patties were light, but had enough body to feel like a proper meal, tasty with perfect seasoned balance. The accompanying salad included perfectly cooked asparagus and Chinese broccoli among an assortment of gourmet tomatoes, julienne of peppers, carrot, cucumber and eschallots, accompanied with a side server of a tasty homemade Aioli mayo. Both dishes were very well presented with care, and were a perfect balance. The prices were average, some a little less than others, but when the meals came out and we indulged, they were worth every cent. What a surprise, what a secret little find... we will certainly be going back to the Corner Post Cafe, and trying some of the Chef's other delights. We are going to try and make it for breakfast one day, as I have been told they do an excellent 'French Toast' with a twist, and I am intrigued. Her husband passion for the country lead on developing their own farm where some of the meat and majority of the vegetables are produced for Scarvelli's. It's the real Paddock to Plate experience. Clare with her husband run their own business, a 12 acre farm while raising their three boys is just beyond impressive. I was invited to Scarvelli Cafe by Carlos and decided to visit them on a Friday afternoon. I travel from the city using 109 tram from Collins St, the journey takes approximately 40-50 minutes. Upon arriving, I was amazed by the rustic but modern decor. The cafe itself are divided into 4 separate spaces; they have several seats outdoor upfront and then there are two indoor spaces. Honestly, I love the second space the most with open bricks, deer decorations and the world map on the wall. Somehow it was homey, warm, messy yet well decorated. I was seated back on their spacious patio. There is a warm country vibe with some plants, vegetables, rustic wooden panels decorating the dining area. It's perfect for any seasons since they also provide shades to avoid direct sunlight or rain.

I'm not a regular coffee drinker (I feel your scorn) but the few short blacks I've had here smelt and tasted truly amazing. Might be the fact that the staff is quite young, and everyone below 30 now looks the same to my old-man eyes, but feels like every-time we go in there there's a whole new set of faces working. That's ok though, unlike some I don't get too attached to my waitstaff, and plus it means I can re-use my jokes. This is my work local coffee shop/bakery!…read more Although the name is a little dubious the coffee is cheap, drinkable and quick! (just what you need in the morning - although I must preface this by saying that I have only been drinking coffee for about 15 months). The cakes, donuts and slices are all very nice and the sandwiches and wraps are reasonably priced for Melbourne CBD. The atomosphere is not terribly special but the coffee ladies will remember your order if you come back :)
