So, our first stop off on the Yelp pub crawl was at Kobe, (pronounced koh-bee not kohb, as I…read moredebated with the taxi driver) to stock up on burgers before our tour of the town. I'd heard on good authority (a fellow Yelper, naturally) that the burgers here were well worth a punt, and being as I'm on a sort of unofficial best burger hunt, it had to be done. Should you feel flash, they also do a chateaubriand - but that's fifty squids, so quite a lot to drop when it's not Blackhouse. Friday was, if you recall, incredibly warm, and so this was the perfect place to indulge in some summer sun - the outdoor garden has quite a few tables, and there are some covered tables, should the rains have come. Being as I'd yet to have my tea, I didn't take advantage of the boozes here. I did discover an incredible mocktail menu, however, and can highly recommend the Very Berry - it's an awesome mix of raspberry, cranberry, mint, apple and other bits, that make up both a healthy and delicious smoothie. The staff were all really helpful, especially the girls that served me, both when ordering the mocktail and my burger. I wanted to check out extras on the burger, and if I could have it served rare, amongst other details and both girls were really great with all my questions. Fantastic. The décor is fine, and in keeping with their other bars dotted about Leeds, although to my mind could probably do with an update. You know you're in an Arc bar when you go in, so there's that, but it is rather dark inside and I suppose feels a bit dated? I can't put my finger on it, but the black leather, dark floors, and varnished wood aren't my favourite. But, perhaps that's a minor detail when everything else seemed to be quality. The burger comes on a wooden chopping board, and the chips in a little mini metal chip pan, as seems to be the fashion. I do like the little pot of salsa though, which was really tasty. I opted for the Indonesian burger, and whilst it wasn't rare in the American sense, it was definitely juicy - thank goodness for a nicely cooked burger. Who wants dry meat? (Apparently lots of folk, as the waitress mentioned several people send them back to be cooked for longer - if you're one of those culprits, try it wet. I promise, it's better.) I couldn't taste the peanut satay creme fraiche very well, but the rest of the acoutrements that accompanied the burger were fabulous, and the bun was a perfect brioche bun. It's not the biggest you'll see in your life, but it's definitely decent so these guys make the list. I was very happy! In summary: I much prefer this place to the Headingley counterparts, and their burgers are damned good. The mocktail list is great, and give non-boozers something a little extra special to sup, so all in all I'm a fan.

By far the trendiest business to every grace New Road Side, Kobe takes its name from the area of Japan where the farmers treat the cows like gods. Seriously. If you haven't read about this, get on Wikipedia now and look up Kobe beef, it's ridiculous; they give cows beer and massages! Kobe (the club) uses Kobe (the beef) for one thing on it's simple, grill menu, the Kobe Burger. Now, this is no ordinary burger- indeed, it costs around £17 (which would probably get you about 8 Big Macs) but then again this is the poshest beef in the world. Despite my love of beef and burgers, I could not justify the price, so went for the rump steak and cheese sandwich, which was top drawer. The service was pleasant and fast, and, while the prices are definitely on the expensive side, the quality you get makes up for this. Kobe by night is a similarly expensive but luxury experience, with the decor and upmarket drinks making you feel as special as those Japanese cows must do.

The door staff are occasionally rude, the bar staff always serve the pretty girl before the bald man, the on floor staff are generally more than abrupt when it comes to throwing you off the balcony (in to the bar, not _off_ the balcony)... At this point you'd be forgiven for thinking that I hate The Sky Lounge. The truth is that if it wasn't for the drinks I honestly would, but the cocktails here are amazing - with the Mojito and French Martini's being amongst the best I've had in Leeds... and probably much further afield than that too. Arrive early, avoid any staff that you don't absolutely have to talk to in order to be served, and be prepared to wait for your drinks to be made... then sit back, relax and enjoy!

Although I do love tasting wine and experimenting with new varieties, I generally despise the atmosphere of wine bars. In my experience, the pretentiousness of them seems to be overwhelming. I think Lazy Lounge avoids this pitfall admirably. Their passion for wine is evident not only due to the extensive menu, but also through wine tasting events they offer at the venue. The evenings exhibit various tipples from one particular country and with Australia and Spain on the horizon, I feel a visit is imminent. The food I have sampled at Lazy Lounge has been perfectly pleasant. Full meals are on offer, although I have mainly tried the bar snacks and sharing platters - ideal for social grazing. I used to live in close proximity to Lazy Lounge and it often proved to be a convenient and enjoyable meeting place for friends. The slate flooring, contemporary furniture and sweeping staircase creates a relaxing and intimate atmosphere.

Lazy Lounge is a few minutes walk from the back of the train station and is underneath an apartment block. This is a lovely bar / lounge and is a great place for young (& not so young) professionals and anyone who likes great food, great wine, great cocktails, great music, great service and a great atmosphere. My friend and I had a really good winetasting last week. Our sommelier was knowledgeable, fun and just happened to be one of the joint owners / managers. We tasted 3 whites and 3 reds including one of the nicest malbecs i've had. The cheeseboard was also lovely and I tried (and loved) brie for the first time. Now to the food. I could go on about the food here for the longest time, but I won't. Let me just say that last week I had the lazy gourmet burget and my friend and I went back AGAIN this week and took someone else with us. We all had the lazy gourmet burger. This is burger heaven - seriously. It had meat, bacon, cheese, onion rings, salad (i think) and came served with homemade chips, yes CHIPS - WHOOP!, coleslaw, and some caramelised red onion. This is seriously good food. We were too full to move for a while but that didnlt stop us getting jealous when we saw the table next to us having the fish and chips!! There is nothing negative that I can say about Lazy Lounge but for those who find it hard to believe a review unless it has something negative, let me say that the cheese sauce (served seperately to accompany the burger) wasnt necessary. That's all. Needless to say i'll be going back. Just hope I can hold out until next week!

This is another place that is somewhat hidden away and I am really glad we came here. The cocktails were amazing. I really wish I had written them down or attached the names to the pictures when I took them. But being in a boozy haze has made me forget them. This is not a bad thing as it gives me the perfect excuse to go back!! The only downside that could see was that the bar man was, for whatever reason, not in a good mood. I never saw him smile once. I am sure that he even shook his head when I placed my last drink order. He was on his own and was having to work very fast in order to keep the drinks flowing. That is the reason I haven't given it 5 stars, but anyone can have an off night.

For a start it's a nice building and is done out well. The reason I like it though is because it's got quite a bit to offer.
