Favoloso Cafe - Great place for an ice cream stop

We have been regular customers of Favo'Loso for over 10 years. Our last meal experience was so…read moredisastrous that we decided to never eat at that restaurant again. On Friday 25 July, like I had many times before, I ordered fish and chips, but this time the fish I was served smelled off, giving an abnormal oversalty stench. Upon returned the fish - which in my opinion was unsafe to eat - the manager came to our table to assure me the fish was 'fresh from the morning'. He proceeded to dismiss my claim by telling me that the reason that fish smelled different was because 'it is not frozen fish', thereby arrogantly insinuating that I was unfamiliar with fresh fish. As for this condescending theory, I would like to point out that I was born and grew up by the sea and have had more fresh fish in my life than most people. As such, I believe I am more than competent to distinguish a fresh fish from one gone bad. I am a kind and forgiving customer, but I certainly do not appreciate being gaslighted in such a blatant manner. I understand food can sometimes go off, but it certainly should not be served to customers, and if it is returned, it should be checked thoroughly. Instead of taking the matter personally, the manager should have apologised (which he didn't), properly checked the food returned (which I guarantee he did not either, unless he is the one who never had fresh fish in his life (sic!) - and offered a replacement. Instead, he saw fit to raise his voice so as to be heard by the surrounding tables and told me he didn't see what he could do about it. Really? I am also writing this review to serve as a legal anchor in case someone was served the same 'fresh' fish on or around that day and has had symptoms of indigestion - or, god forbid, worse. Last but not least, and for reference: according to Live Science, a strong, fishy or "salty" smell in fish can be a sign of bacterial growth and spoilage, indicating that the fish is no longer safe to eat. As fish begins to spoil, bacteria break down natural compounds like trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) into trimethylamine (TMA), which is responsible for the characteristic "fishy" or ammonia-like odor. That is exactly the fish I was served.

It's good though. Not gourmet, but a massive selection of pastries, snacks and drinks. I got a vanilla milkshake and it was a proper one - made with ice cream and really delicious. Followed it up with a coffee which was decent too, and everything's very reasonably priced. It's counter service, but since it was quiet they brought everything over for us which was nice. All in all, nothing spectacular, but definitely worth a visit if you're hungry or thirsty - and it's near the seafront too.

It's nostalgic and the best sandwich shop. When I studied abroad in London back in 2006- I was so…read morelucky to live up the street and got to eat here everyday! I've come back to visit London several times since then (most recently in September) and its amazing how all the shops have changed on this block but this sandwich shop still remains! I am sooo glad it's still here! Seriously the best sandwiches, hot dishes such as Samosas- still cheap and fast service! Love that the locals come here everyday and know they can get the best sandwich or hot food from here! I'm obsessed with their simple bacon and egg sandwich (all comes on a baguette) I get it with no sauce of any kind. My second choice- chicken with corn. Simple yet so tasty. No need a million toppings-

This is the best sandwich shop in the world and I look down on anyone that disagrees. Just kidding…read more The sandwiches and employees here are pretty amazing though- as are the prices! I came here 9 years ago when I was a student and vowed to come back to try more tasty treats. I did just that and brought my husband this time! We ordered: -Tandoori sandwich (hot) -Peri Peri Chicken sandwich (hot) Both were so delicious, huge, and under 3 pounds (which is unbelievable)! I would say peri peri chicken was the tastiest. The flavor was on point and had a good kick of spice. If you want to save money and are in the area-maybe to go visit the V&A or another museum, come grab a quick meal to go here first and then have a picnic!

I would challenge anyone to find somewhere more quintessentially English than Badgers Tea rooms!…read more The building itself is over 500 years old and has an rich history, mainly as the village bakery but also as a meeting place for "dissenters" from the local church in the late 18th century. The have a main room, a parlour and a delightful garden tucked away at the back. Walkers are invited to remove their muddy boots, children and dogs are welcomed as long as they behave, and smoking is prohibited even in the garden - yes there are rules, but this make for a pleasant experience for all. Tea is served in tin teapots, with bone china cups and saucers, every detail perfected even down to the delicately decorated teaspoons. Coffee is also available along with a wide range of home baked cakes, afternoon tea and fresh scones (the cheese and pecan scones are divine!) A full range of sandwiches, ploughman's lunches and homemade soups are also available for those with a larger appetite, as well as a hearty breakfast menu if you arrive before 12. I would recommend a visit to the village of Alfriston to anybody, it is a picturesque and quaint gem tucked away in the Sussex countryside. Take a walk on the Downs, visit the local pubs, but make sure you save time for a pot of tea and a cheese scone at Badger's!

If you're up for a proper cream tea, don't be fooled by the whimsical musings painted on the walls and look elsewhere. Was hoping for cream tea glory but got scones that tasted like they were out of a packet, not made 'fresh', and some so so sandwiches. Tea was fine, but that's hard to mess up. £££ - mighty expensive.
