This cafe has a broad range of sandwiches and pastries, a full breakfast menu and daily lunch specials. Local staff are very friendly and helpful and more than accommodating to changes in order. The coffee is just as good as the Campos coffee you can get downtown (although I definitely should have ordered an extra shot into my large coffee as I found there was a bit too much milk for my liking.) Toast has had a promising start and it can only get better!

The starting price is $8.90. Toppings aren't listed on the menu but after inquiring, the waitress gave me a list of about seven to choose from. I opted for ice cream and maple syrup. I was disappointed to find that what this cafe deems pancakes are actually crepes. Crepes are fine but they are not fluffy, thick, homely pancakes. This was a let down. I also couldn't put my finger on an odd flavour. Tasted a bit like fruit loops and lemon but couldn't pin point if it was the crepe batter or maple syrup.

Searching 'coffee' in Grafton on Yelp led me to two places, Toast being one of them. The space is what I'm going to call regional-chic with dashes of vintage inspiration (the wall of 50s Tupperware and a few Danish retro pieces specifically). It is counter service and there's a 50cent EFTPOS surcharge for purchases under $100. This baffled me. The menu delivers standard cafe breakfast options -- toast with condiments, eggs and bacon, corn fritters and omelets. I opted for the omelette with tomato, Bangalow ham, spinach and mushrooms. Our coffees (Botero) arrived and the blend is strong. It actually cuts through the milk making a flat white worth waiting 5hours for. My omelette, is a lot bigger than I expected and looks home-made. It's a comfort to see and even more soul-warming to eat. It did lack seasoning in the egg itself and would have been standout if there was a little tarragon, sage, garlic or basil. Still, for a cafe we took a punt on it could have been worse. So to Toast, I "toast" you for giving us a road trip breakfast worth paying for, and that hasn't resulted in any road trip regret.

We dropped in every afternoon for the first 2 nights of our Yamba stay and didn't like the look of the fish that was on display. On day 3 we dropped in at lunchtime and spotted some fresher local flathead fillets! We ordered 3 fillets and a "small" serve of chips - this turned out to be a generous feed for my husband and I and pretty good value at $37. We did have to navigate our way around a few bones and fins, but it was worth it! On day 4 we dropped in and bought 1 kg of prawns which we had for dinner at our holiday rental that evening! They were terrific! In my opinion that's the best thing to buy there. If you do want cooked fish - I think it's better to come for lunch as all the good stuff seems to be gone by dinnertime!
