The locals seem to flock to this place pretty frequently. The owners new customers by name (always a great sign), and there was a line when we got there (which moved quickly). Plenty of pastas, paninis, antipastas, and more. We placed a massive order for 5 people and sat outside. Everything was delivered quickly and we ate while reaching our forks over each other's plates to make sure everything was tried, and nothing was missed. I didn't spend too much time looking, but there is a little shop as well which offers different sauces, pastas, etc. for purchase. They all look delicious, and great for a gift basket.

Their hot meat sandwiches are to die for, and at around £3.50 won't break the bank. They are served with a side salad and homestyle crisps, so it is like a proper meal. I also love their posh ceese on toast, which is melted Brie, on thick slices of breadyummy. Even their coffees are great. But what makes it unique is that it specialies in local produce and will actually buy stock from locals (grown in allottments or gardens) for sale in the shop - what a fantastic concept and very much in line with the spirit of the age. The window displays are particularly mouth-watering and truly enticing, the staff very friendly and the produce always of the highest quality. There is then the main counter with Italian cheeses galore and some deli items and home made pasta. There is also the full range of tinned and dried goods. The dry pasta from here is better than the fresh stuff from supermarkets. In Italy, they believe the pasta is the star of the dish and the sauce is just there to coat it, not drown it but for that philosophy to work, you need high quality ingredients I left with some pancetta, ham and mini mozzarellas

Then we had to wait 30 minutes to order food and then another 30 minutes to receive our appetizers. By this time we had been at the restaurant for over an hour. The main course took about 30 minutes to arrive, as well, which would have been okay if we weren't already a bit annoyed with the slow service. I'm not sure if they were understaffed (it was fairly busy, especially for a Wednesday night) but the staff just seemed to disappear sometimes. The food itself was also subpar and a disappointment. Italian food is wonderful and full of great flavors - all the food we had was bland. We had fried calamari that was chewy and, although the calamari seemed fresh, the batter didn't taste of anything. It seemed like neither the calamari nor the batter had been seasoned. My partner's fish was okay but again, seemed under-seasoned, and my pasta was also just bland. Everything lacked any sort of distinction and, considering how good the items in the store are, this was a real disappointment. I think if we hadn't been there with a 50% promotion we would have been really upset. We were hoping to find a new neighborhood spot but this, sadly, won't be it.

The owner and the staff were super friendly! Things were a bit slow but only because it was their first day open - every business has kinks to work out on opening day.
