Located in the courtyard of the Casa de las Artes, the beautiful outdoor seating and great food attract a nice crowd throughout the day, and the proprietor is visible and involved--making his dedication to delicious food and a great experience obvious. Cafes are VERY common in this area, and you will find that there is a 'typical' Mexican cafe menu: coffee drinks, juices, smoothies, sodas, breakfast, salads, and sandwiches. Cafe Haus isn't deviating from the classics, like the hipster-esque Besame Mucho and Mate Bistro, or staying tried and true, like Restaurant Plaza, but instead the menu has all the staples with a modern flair. Take elevated technique and attention to detail and you've got Cafe Haus. My favorite Mexican brunch-type-food is called a 'mollete', which is toasted bread smeared with beans and topped with cheese--it's very, very simple, so how is it you can really make them stand out amongst others? ask the owner because that dude's got the answer. Huevos Rancheros are everywhere. Everywhere. It's a fried egg with a savory tomato and onion sauce on top; but the sauce here was awesome--complex but balanced. The same could be said of the chilaquiles, which were not overly sour or acrid, as they can sometimes be; both those dishes were the best of their kind that I had. The sandwiches here were also my favorite, specifically the skirt steak sandwich. https://youtu.be/fqCrJc2b9kw Goddam that sandwich. The meat is flavorful, cured and cooked; I thought it would be tough, but it was tender and juicy, and it's paired with a nice, soft, rich, fatty bread. The best thing I ate (in a restaurant) during my vacation. The drinks were also very good, especially the sodas. The coffee drinks, while not bad, aren't great, but the truth is we went elsewhere for coffee before/after coming here. The flavored lattes and cappuccinos tasted really good, but I prefer unflavored, so I stuck to the sodas, specifically the Italian Melon, which was freaking awesome. But in general, here too, the ubiquitous soda flavors were better than other places. I think the best way I can sum up the general attitude towards foods here is by mentioning the orange juice. When a few of us ordered orange juice, the owner informed us that (because of the season) the oranges weren't very sweet anymore, so he was adding a natural sweetener "to balance the flavor". That's it right there. None of us (two of which are residents of this city) had ever heard of someone sweetening fresh juice, but his reasoning made sense to us and the juice ended up being great--it was even clear that the juice had benefited from it. With delicious, thoughtfully made food, great drinks, and a relaxing and beautiful atmosphere, it's definitely a place to check out if you're in the area.

We were tired from a long day of travel and our brains were working a little slow. Our server were kind, patient, and offered suggestions but not in an overly pushy kind of way. And the items they suggested were not the MOST expensive on the menu. Our server asked us what we were in the mood for and suggested some dishes for us to share. She was spot on. We started with queso fundido with Spanish sausages and some guacamole with chips. For mains we had the Torta Haogada () and Carne en su Jugo () (traditional tequila beef stew). Both were EXACTLY what we needed after a long travel day. Now the best part, the original and handmade margaritas. . They have a whole variety of specialty margaritas and my little Puerto Rican went a flutter when I saw they had a margarita with guayaba puree. They also had one with Higo flower which is sweet and delicious. Both margaritas were AMAZING. I can't wait to go back and try some more of the food and the drinks.

The carne en su jugo was rich and flavorful. The mole manchamanteles left me speechless. It was such complex flavors that reminded me of Asian cuisine. Let's just say I left that plate spotless. Highly recommended.

Food Review: Los Chilaquiles - Guadalajara, Jalisco…read more On my recent visit to Los Chilaquiles, located right in the heart of Guadalajara, I arrived a bit past the traditional breakfast hour, but I was seriously craving some good huevos rancheros and a comforting café de olla. Thankfully, both absolutely hit the spot. Café de olla is a classic Mexican coffee traditionally brewed in a clay pot (olla), infused with cinnamon and sweetened with piloncillo--a deep, rich unrefined cane sugar. The result is a warm, aromatic, slightly spiced cup that feels like a hug from Mexico itself. Their version was delicious. To complement it, they offered me conchas con nata, which was such a treat. Conchas are iconic Mexican sweet breads known for their soft, airy interior and crunchy shell-like topping. Nata is the thick, silky cream that forms when fresh milk is gently simmered--rich, smooth, and perfect for spreading. Together, it's a simple but heavenly pairing. Right away, I noticed that the atmosphere of the place feels warm and inviting--relaxed, friendly, and full of that authentic Guadalajara charm that makes you want to stay a little longer. The service matched the atmosphere perfectly: attentive, kind, and genuinely welcoming. They started me off with a trio of homemade salsas, along with Mexican crema, queso cotija, and a crunchy homemade tostadita. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtful. As I looked around, I even noticed photos of well-known personalities who have visited, which makes sense--the food and experience truly stand out. Overall, Los Chilaquiles delivered amazing flavors, excellent service, a great atmosphere, and that authentic touch that makes breakfast in Guadalajara unforgettable. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.
