Had a special "Star Spangled Pancakes with fresh strawberries, vanilla cream, and blueberries plus a side of bacon and coffee to drink for breakfast today, on July 5th the day after the July 4th holiday yesterday. It was wonderful. There's a nice variety of food selections here and I've enjoyed many. It's often crowded, but accommodates seating at a number of tables as well as the very friendly seating at the counter. Sue's a great cook, very nice, and accommodates some changes to a dish depending on a customer's request. Very few places seem to hit the spot nowadays. I was in the mood for really good Filipino breakfast. And I didn't get good, instead I got great! Adobo Pork Belly Eggs Benny isn't traditional, but it hit so many notes for what a great breakfast dish should hit. Hollandaise was smooth and silky, eggs were runny, and pork belly was crispy and tasty. And it was drizzled with an additional caramel soy glaze that dialed up the umami to another level. Oh and instead of the typical potatoes side, they serve it with garlic fried rice. That was amazing too. Oh and the Ube Coconut pancakes did not disappoint either. Not off puttingly sweet and the Ube and Coconut flavors were noticeable. They also had a Cowboy Steak for 2 that I didn't order and get to try. But another table ordered it and it smelled amazing. They continue to update their menu which is refreshing. There's no longer outdoor seating and the inside gets packed pretty quickly. Service is quick, though. This time we had their chicken burger, mango strawberry pancakes, and a benedict that also came with garlic rice! Everything was delicious and came with huge portions. The pancakes were addicting. Great menu selection. My friend and I opted for the Une pancakes of course and we chose the Bansilog (milkfish with garlic rice, 2 eggs and I loved the pickled vegetables with the salad they served. Food was amazing! The house coffee was unexpectedly perfect. I drink strong coffee and theirs was on point. I of course live the warm Filipino welcome of the staff. Tita Nora was our sweet server and I forgot Tito's first name (busser), he was adorable! Thank you to the chef for making our homemade brunch. This place was packed Sunday for brunch. The turnover is quick because the food comes out quickly. The place is a bit small and there's a sign in list right when you walk in. The food was delicious. The brisket was nice and tender, but I would suggest getting it with the garlic rice instead of the potatoes and biscuit. read more

Found this spot on Yelp and the ube pancakes caught my eye! However once we arrived, they had a list of specials for the day and we decided on the blueberry calamansi instead. The calamansi butter was so delicious and fragrant! There was no shortage of blueberries either. The place is small and cozy, seems like a local staple hole-in-the-wall type of breakfast joint. It's nothing fancy but the food was well-cooked! I'd say my only complaint was the pricing seems a bit off. My adobo pork belly bowl was $20 for two slices of pork belly, while my husband's giant breakfast burrito was $15 and could've easily been two meals worth at that size. Otherwise it was a solid meal, friendly service, and the meals came out QUICK, I'm talking minutes! Which was great since we had driven about an hour and a half so we were ready to eat. The ube pancakes were described as fluffy, but they were soggy and didn't taste like ube at all. They were also splitting apart, which I've never seen in a pancake before. The French toast was good though. IMO, only the American food part of the menu is good. The Filipino food/Filipino fusion part is a pass for me. But maybe I'm biased because I'm Filipino. The server was not very attentive, and messed up the order. I ordered the French toast, and the server asked if I wanted a 2 piece or a 3 piece. I said three. She came back with 3 orders of French toast. Like ma'am, what do I look like eating 3 orders of French toast? We happened to find this family run cafe on Yelp that can accommodate gluten free diners in this Pinole neighborhood. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. The grandmother, daughter and granddaughter all work here and they have interesting Filipino influenced breakfast items like Ube stuffed French toast with fresh strawberries as well as American eggs, bacon and potatoes. Service was efficient and this place seems to have a lot of regular locals. They get busy on Sundays after church. The grandmother (great personality) waited on us and was very friendly. Sue's Place is a real gem within the Pinole community, and I will never stop singing its praises. I stumbled upon Sue's just maybe a little under a year ago when looking for a breakfast place. Finally decided to try it out, and it was the best food decision I've made in a long time. Sue's is a breakfast and lunch spot, with Filipino inspiration in many of their dishes. Over the last few months, I've gotten things with longanisa, garlic rice, ube, spam, mango... and every single one has been incredible. These dishes are genuinely made with love and passion, and it translates into the food. Additionally, they're always cycling through fun specials. I've yet to have one that isn't amazing. My personal favorite is the longanisa silog, a staple menu item. It comes with longanisa, eggs your way, garlic rice, and pickled veggies. It's a wholesome meal that hits the spot. Additionally, the portions are always huge! You definitely get your money's worth and then some. The service is great. I usually got on a Saturday, and there are usually two women that we see every time. They've begun to recognize us, and it feels nice to be a "regular" at a place where they get to know their customers. I also always hear them calling other regulars by their names and making an effort to speak and check in on them like they're friends. It shows they truly care about the work they do. The inside is small and cozy. They have a counter space to sit at, booths, and some tables. The decor is interesting, in a good way, with mural on the wall that appears to depict a scene from an older time. Very cute! Overall, Sue's is a gift to Pinole and its citizens. So I can't rate the food because I showed up to eat. With plenty of empty seating they had me write out my name down on an empty waiting list. Literally I was number one of one, the entire list was empty with no names even on it but mine. They proceeded to have me stand there for 15 minutes while there was open seating. I did a Grubhub order yesterday and they didn't have 2 items on their menu. The pancake special and pork chop special. They need to update their menu accordingly if they are going to use that service. The worker lady that called me to tell me they didn't have 2 of the items was a bit rude about it when I told her the app said there was a note that said the restaurant could adjust the price due to the special and she said they couldn't. The special was French toast and not pancakes, but I don't see why they still couldn't just adjust the price, it's still under as a special. They need to take these things off the menu on Grubhub if these don't even exist or if they can't modify the price, like it says. So I said just cancel the order and I'll just order over the phone for pick up. I got the special Ube French toast, Bistek silog (not on Grubhub) and Triple Hog silog. When I got the food at home there was a long piece of hair camouflaged in the syrup of the ube French toast. I threw that out and wasted $17 and didn't want to eat anything else. I was planning to go here with my friends next time, but after that hair in my food and the way over priced silogs $22 and $26. I will not be back and will not recommend this place. I was trying to support this Filipino business, but customer service needs more training and food hygiene is an issue. read more

The booths had splatter stain including the walls. A little wipe down wouldn't hurt. Now to the food. I ordered the $15.00 two tiny sliders with more coleslaw than meat. Wasn't a good experience in our opinion but don't let our experience decide whether to visit or not. We love to support local businesses and wish everyone success. Details: was told a substitution could be made without additional charges but was "accidentally" charged for the substitution. When we called about the mistake, we were told they would give the difference as a cash refund. When we arrived for the refund, the cashier was rude and aggressive when giving the cash back. And she didn't even give the correct amount back. She was $.50 off but we didn't say anything because we didn't want to gripe about $.50. It's the principle of what's right and wrong and treatment of customers which prompted me to write this review. The impression the cashier gave turned my family off enough to not return. Sue's Place is a delicious gem in Pinole. A cute diner with delicious food and delightful service. My spouse and I were headed to San Rafael to pick up something and decided to make a full day adventure out of the trip which lead us to finding Sue's Place along the way. We showed up on a Saturday for brunch and we're immediately greeted and seated in a booth by the window. The menu had multiple options we liked but ended up getting items from their specials menu for that Saturday. We ended up getting two orders of the Triple Hog Silog and a order of their Ube Delight French Toast to split. All I can say is, I am happy that I don't live too close else I would be here far too often for my health and wallet. The triple hog silog was bacon, lechon (deep fried pork belly), and longanisa (sweet pork sausage) served with garlic rice, fried eggs and a garnish of sliced tomatoes and pickled onions plus a side of vinegar. This was absolutely delicious. The ube delight french toast was ube dipped French toast with like a sweet/tangy cream cheese spread between the slices, topped with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and an ube syrup. I could have died and gone to heaven happy eating it with the perfect balance of sweet, acid and fat, which counter balanced the salty silog magnificently. I just didn't realize Pinole was one of them until I sauntered into this cafe before taking a walk on the San Pablo Bay Regional Trail. That happened much to the consternation of two passive-aggressive overweight women who clearly had their respective eyes on it. Get over it. Move on. It appeared to be a Filipino-style omelette.
