I want to start this review by saying I do not expect anything in return and that I truly enjoyed the first half of my meal. The flavors, sauces, and cooking seemed great. I also do not want to provide undue negativity to a non-corporate local spot. This review is purely to provide caution to other diners and a message for the owners to clean up the establishment. I got a Togo order with empanadas and the pollo cena and the plate was stuffed full. So full the lid couldn't close. That's a good thing. I ate one empanada and only a third of food and the rest I went to save and that's when I saw the cockroach. Bugs are simply unacceptable. I cannot in good faith return to this establishment. I wish them well but you need to clean your spot to protect yourself and your customers. Good luck. read more

I love how authentic the restaurants and stores on Cherokee St are! Our waiter was so nice - he didn't speak a lot of English but we were all able to make it work :) it was also super helpful that there were descriptions in English of what each item was! We stopped in for lunch - we got an Al Pastor taco Mexicano, Baleada Especial (which had beef, egg, and cheese), and the Tacos Hondurenos (which were like flautas with a delicious tangy, somewhat spicy sauce and pepper and cabbage mixture). We really enjoyed our dining experience at Sueno Latino. The ambience was fun, festive (Latino music was setting the vibe), casual and laid back. We were greeted by a very helpful server who took our drink orders and provided courteous, on-point service. We needed some help with the menu and got some extra help from the owner (wish we had grabbed his name). You can tell that there is passion behind the menu and the establishment. We had questions about some condiments featuring "pickled" onions and peppers in various mixtures. The super spicy version was spot! I should have bought some to take home. The food was a real treat. Across the table, we generally enjoyed everything. We had the Catrachitas (our second favorite appetizer), the Pastelitos (our favorite!), and the Tamalito de Blote (tied at second). The Tamalito de Blote reminded us of the sweet corn cake you get at Chevy's. For the entrees, we had a mixture of things. The stand out was the Pollo con Tajadas. The tacos were also superb. The Desayuno Hondureño featured some steak that were thin cut and bone-in. While everything on the plate was excellent (especially those plantains - wow), the steak was a bit tough and grisly. If you like that, I am sure you will like this dish! It just isn't our preference. All-in-all, it was a really nice dinner experience. We plan to go again. Sooo very happy to have found An amazing authentic Honduran food. The place is a nice size but a bit loud. The service is great and fast. The most important part the food! I the pollo con tojadas and let me tell you it's absolutely delicious! The tajadas are made to perfection and the sauce is delicious. The chicken was good but I could tell it was not really fried and this plate chicken is supposed to be. But overall very good. La carne asada was also pretty good. I have never had Honduran food before visiting Sueño and let me just say...shoutout to the people of Honduras because your food is incredible! I started off with a drink and I ordered the strawberry margarita. Sueño uses a fresh strawberry puree that they make in house and it was literally the best margarita that I've ever had. It was so good that I ordered two of them. lol For my entree, I ordered the Pollo Con Tajadas. It's also known as Pollo Chuco which means 'chicken with slices'. The entrée is made with fried plantains topped with fried chicken, cabbage salad, pico de Gallo salad, onions, and sauces. It was so flavorful and filling! Ambiance was not welcoming, the restaurant smelled like bug spray upon entry, the tables, walls, and chairs are dirty and unkept. There were small roaches roaming freely on the walls and floor. The service was mediocre. The waitress was not welcoming or helpful and expressed zero concern towards us brining it to her attention that there were roaches. The food was not palatable. The baleadas were thin and had very little meat. The tacos meat was dry and flavorless. The cups had food stuck on the inside and had hair and other items floating inside. Cleanliness was nonexistent! Customer service after all of this was unsatisfactory, as the owner did not even come out to address our concerns and only offered to discount the drinks and nothing else. The disappointment goes on and on. Translation: El ambiente no era acogedor, el restaurante olía a repelente de insectos al entrar, las mesas, paredes y sillas están sucias y descuidadas. I believe I have droned on and on about how many high quality Central and South American restaurants we now have in the Lou. Got to go back to Cherokee Street on the recommendation of my favorite Banker (Rene Vences) when I told him I liked fish. I took my lovely wife for lunch and the place only had two other patrons at noon on a Thursday and I was worried. The music was very loud and we felt like old people (which we are) and we asked the waitress to turn it down... and she might have. Regardless she was extremely pleasant. Not great with English but learning and nice and worked with the old gringos. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT ALL AROUND. They have a full bar and we ordered margaritas and my Wife watched approvingly as she made them up fresh. No pitchers of them from cooler or the hated dispensing machines. They had two types of whole fish on the menu. Talapia and Red Snapper (for two bucks more). I Got the snapper and a chicken tamale to start. The tamale was excellent. A lot of masa, but extremely flavorful masa and also rice which was a pleasant surprise. Chicken was tender and appeared to be grilled prior to prep. The snapper was delectable and fried and cooked perfectly. It was served with a small dish of rice and beans mixed together and some very flavorful slaw. It was also served with "banana chip", of which I was suspect but were great! We will definitely come back. The only reason it did not get 5 stars was because the bathroom. It was a very clean men's room but toilet seat was broken and soap and towel dispensers were empty. A small price to pay for a great meal and I am sure they will address. We tried to order and eat from the wonderful menu, but the music from the speakers was too loud. We asked if the music could be turned down and they did, just a bit. Thirty seconds later it was turned back up. We still could not hear the server as we asked questions about the menu, and she refused to try to turn it down again.
